The Reason they look so shocked when Robin said "Goodbye" is because she used "Sayonara" in Japanese which is only used if you won't see someone for a very long time, like when you move to another Country or the like. It's a "final Goodbye" so to speak. There is no real equivalent in English nowadays. I think it used to be the meaning behind "Farewell" originally.
No, guns in One Piece looks old but they work like modern weapons, Oda explained that the muskets and flintlocks don't have to be reloaded over and over again.
@@isdisgudnam no, it's just cause any fighter worth anything in the series can dodge bullets with relative ease Luffy (I mean it's Luffy but still) managed to dodge them point-blank in Sabaody pre-Haki
Maybe Blackbeard's pistols are an exception? The reason why the historical Blackbeard had 6 pistols was so he would have 6 shots. Although I suppose if he had 6 six-shot pistols that would give him 36 shots, which might be useful in some scenarios?
Its this and the the fact that Haki exists that in my head canon beings in One Piece arent really like humans at all. I mean look at Ussopp he should be either dead or brain dead well before he gets worked up by Franky Family. 😅 Odas writing. Guns and swords mean nothing and are not dangerous unless they have names and magic imbued haha. Or zoro is swinging it.@@markussmedhus9717
2:14 i know u're joking around but i just wanna remind yall that Nico Robin saved Luffy from death TWICE back in Alabasta and that is probably enough for Luffy to believe in her no matter what
That scene in the bar is so weird the first time you see it, but in a reawatch, there are somethings that pop out at me,Franky for as much of a punk as he is he spends the money he has left in the people rather then himself, Kokoro seems way to informed about CP9 for some reason, and the bartender Blueno apears to know nothing about it. Now for One Piece at a time: Water 7 is based on Venice but also the Aqua Laguna is based on "Acqua alta" a problematic high tide that venice deals with every so often.
Yeah, some of the kids in One Piece Films are busted face little gremlins- Chimney is definitely okay in comparison to me. Film Gold, World's Strongest, that build up movie for Film Gold. At least when it comes to fictional characters - the uglier the kid, the less patience and sympathy I have.
The convo between Chopper, Sanji and Robin is so good, despite her actions seemingly being all for bringing down the straw hats, her words seem to imply a self-sacrifical act and a lot of self deprecation ("thank you for being nice to me even if i didn't deserve it"), Chopper thinking he did something to upset her also breaks my heart. Can't wait for Wanji's iconic line. On an unrelated note i can't get over how the show is so casually mean to lady Kokoro💀, can't wait for her to get more screentime, she's awesome.
@@Marshall_D_preach Spoilers up to WCI below: In this specific context he didn't mean "let women lie and always forgive them for it", what he was trying to say was that Robin was lying to protect them from danger and that she shouldn't be held at gunpoint for it, he just decided to say it in the form of a cool one-liner. "A real man always forgives a woman's lies" is as much of a bad line taken in a vacuum as Luffy's "I can't become king of the pirates" is character assassination, these quotes simply can't be taken at face value and ignoring the context surrounding them.
@@blackknight6757 Yeah, it makes sense because he's talking about Robin specifically lol, out of context the quote just doesn't work but thankfully stories are written with intent, it's funny as hell to meme on it tho.
Rest assured, I felt similarly about Franky at first. 😄 I really like your analysis a lot of the time. Sometimes you jump to knee-jerk conclusions, but we all do and this story in particular is often written to specifically get you to do that (It's a big part of what makes it so good - old scenes are CONSTANTLY getting re-contextualized so it makes a second read/watch really rewarding) but I'm often amazed at how well you guys are able to ignore that stuff and peel back the layers in real time. Thank you again for sharing! looking forward to seeing your thoughts on upcoming scenes!
There’s an interesting character study to be done with Luffy. How much does he really understand about the world and his place in it? There are times throughout the series where he will do or say something that demonstrates he is far more canny than you’d expect. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a legendary idiot, but there’s a question of how much he truly understands internally vs how much he demonstrates that understanding due to a lack of caring. These moments are few and far between, but if you’re looking you’ll see it.
For many years it has been said in Japan that Hanumān was the model for Luffy. Goku from Dragon Ball is also based on Hanumān. He is the god of joy, freedom, love, and commitment.
Since it was a pain to reload back in the day pirates used to carry a bunch of pistols on them so they could fire multiple shots without having to reload.
One thing i really enjoy about One Piece is how the people of the islands they are visiting actually play some role in the story being told, it goes beyond the "eww le annoying SHEEPLE going against our protagonist, grr!!!" and actually shows us differing viewpoints, to the point of actually showin 'em admit when they are wrong or act differently when they have more info about what's going on and it's imo part of what makes the OP world feel real, it just wouldn't be the same without them.
but as lindsey pointed out its jsutified. they litrally have NO REASON to suspect anyone other than the straw hats, cause they don't know much about robin and in their eyes there's no way a pirate crew memebr would do somethign without the permission of the captain. Carson just misread their thinking, they absolutely totally believed luffy ordered it it wasn't just "captian is responsible for their crew emmbers cause reasons", they just wanted to know WHY.
Fun fact - in Japanese when people say “Sayonara” it is meant to be a for real “Good bye forever” or a good bye that’s meant to indicate you don’t know if / when you’ll ever see that person again. This is a moment that feels a little deeper and helps give more context to Sanji and Chopper’s reactions for why they’re taking it so seriously.
16:54 actually he is ace Ventura, that's the joke , see oda really love jim carrey, that's why he made two characters based on him Franky : Ace ventura Mr 2 : dumb and dumber
robin joining + robin filler episode where she had to gain every strawhat's crews trust + finding out she will betray them eventually + Aokiji accelerating her betrayal due to strawhat crew being overwhelmed by Aokiji's power = They Are Cooking Of A Storm With This One
The reason why Luffy has so much faith in Robin is because she saves his life on Alabasta. Indeed, it's more than reading books and drinking cocktails.
now it is crisis time, losing two members especially one suddenly gone for unknown reason, broken ship cannot sail, secret organization in the shadow, aqua lagoona that may come, and with all the city pursuing. so intense and confusing, at the first time the manga is out, reading it i dont know what will happen at all cannot predict what is this about, so much problem rise but cannot see the solution, and even more cannot guess who is the villain, at this point, you may think franky is bad people but seems not enough to explain the situation
SPOILER . . . . . . . . . I find it so weird that they don't recognize Franky, by this point if u search OP you probably have seen a bunch of strawhat pictures, they must have seen him and Brook already there's no way.
SPOILER My guesses would be: 1) They are hiding that they know Franky is a future Straw Hat so they won't spoil each other just in case there's a chance that the other doesn't know about it. 2) Post timeskip Franky is more prominent online than the pre timeskip, and there are pretty drastic changes, so much that they could not recognise him.
You guys have heard of cp9, it was mentioned when the tall masked dude passed by robin when she was with chopper. Also cp8 had a filler arc before, it was the arc after skypia (i think), the one you guys liked a lot.
@@micheleduritto Good job letting me know that there are people who would even support annoying things no matter how cringe it is and others shouldn't even point it out
I suggest you to stop reacting to one piece. It's one of the worst stories ever written, especially in the second half. And since it's so long you're really wasting a lot of time you could spend doing something better. I personally regret having spent so much time on this anime only to regret it later. Don't make my same mistake
Actually I changed my mind. I'm looking forward to them reacting to the second half of One Piece, because from what I've seen Carson and Lindsay are really good at bringing critical thinking in a place where only blind fanatism is accepted
So you'd rather they defend you when you're in the wrong? Close friends should correct each other and hold each other accountable. You shouldn't want your friends to be a bunch of yes men.
