Only ever one Jimi. Only ever one Robin. Jimi Dewar was one of the greatest rock soul and blues singers EVER. How special that they shared their magic with us. Peace
Growing up it was cool to be a Trower fan - like a secret club. This never got played on the radio, it was word of mouth, ear to ear. If you were into Trower, you transcended the Rush Heads and occupied a higher place. You knew.
Trower power. One of the best under rated guitarists in all of rock-n-roll. Long time fan, seen him a couple times live in small venues over the decades. You don't hear rock jams like this anymore unless you dig into your album collection if you were a collector like I was. Crank it up
this is the way rock music ought to be: Marshall stacks with flickering-blue vacuum tubes in the back and high-voltage electronic distortion, walls of sound like a freight train at high speed, wailing and soaring and screaming passages, incandescent molten guitar lines, pounding rhythm vs. frenzied improvisation, the enraptured guitarist-shaman drawing lightning from heaven, heartbeat-changing basslines felt through the chest, drumwork like an artillery barrage - psychedelic blues, in other words
quintessential Strat, i love that tone. I saw Trower live a few yrs ago, check my channel for the bootlegs i got at that show, audio is subpar but still worth a listen. he was an old man on the stage but when i closed my eyes it was 1974 all over again man, friggin ROCKED
Right on man! Rock is pretty much buried in mainstream culture, except for corporate suits who want to seem cool by putting it in their ads. BTW, Pete Townshend invented the Marshall stack! Keep rockin', bro
I've always thought this was Machine Gun but with less psychedelic effects. I love Jimi and I love Robin and I never compare the two. Can't understand people who do. Anyone who loves guitar will acknowledge they both bring something unique to the table.
Honestly? Robin Trower was never influenced by Jimi Hendrix. They are from the same genre of blues but neither 'borrowed' from each other. They were playing at the same time.My opinion? Robin...who didn't whack dope, is still alive and killing it ..Jimi? Is dead.
Adam Travis, You are wrong. Robin Trower saw Jimi Hendrix in Concert Hamburg Germany. He then was turned on to Hendrix. He stated his fav Hendrix Album was Band of Gypsies. Fav song Song Machine Gun. Everybody's got influences also get you facts straight Adam.
@@adamtravis3040 Jimi did not die from a self inflicted overdose . He unfortunately took a German brand sleeping pill unintentionally not reading the dosage and took 4 times the recommended amount by not cutting the pill in quarters as prescribed . Failed instructions on a very potent narcotic killed Jimi , Not Jimi himself *
and it was cool being a Trower fan, we were better (?) than the rest. they had there's but we had Robin Trower and most just didn't get it. i'd listen to Day Dream and some of them thought i was listening to the monkeys. guess it's taste, preference, call it what you will, "we" know what it is. it's Robin Trower and does it get any better? does it? even today?
Kevin Still I agree completely Kevin. It really busts my butt to read comments saying Robin is trying to copy Hendrix. It's as though some people are absolutely incapable of judging art WITHOUT comparison to other artists.
Trower said he changed his style completely after hendrix came around. He wanted to play like Hendrix. Of course he still was unique and a great guitarist before Hendrix but Hendrix was a huge change in the way guitarist appriached the guitar. Hendrix changed everything. Just when everyone thought eric clapton was god, jimi came around and said showed tjat wasn't even close to being true...whats evern trippier...theres someone waitibg to be bob that could be even better thab Hendrix. Srv was more precise than Hendrix but i won't say better/more soulful
I love all his tunes but fuck me this is untouchable .....people say David Gilmour for soul in guitar....I love Dave but nah Robin is the most soulful player on the earth such a stoned out sound
@@xblood1978 thats funny my mom in 1975 walked into my room as I was listening to Trower and she said wow the only thing missing is marijuana , even she picked up on the stoned out sound!
