What most people don't know is how dedicated to his friends Robin was. He paid ALL Christopher Reeve's medical bills. And his last phone call was to Billy Connolly to say "goodbye". If you believe in heaven, after all the laughter and joy Robin brought to the world, I'm sure Robin is there.
The irony the funniest man in the world, was also the most depressed. This man was a legend, the world is less funny without him,RIP Robin Williams. You’re sorely missed!
Too clever for his own good and desperately misunderstood. It started with Mork and Mindy and ended with it too. This world was never meant for one as beautiful as him 😢😮
I was at the recording for this. Only a fraction of Robin Williams' extraordinary performance made it on air, because he thwarted the cameras, and just - wouldn't - stop. The best live comic performer I've ever seen by a very long way indeed. What an amazing talent.
@Patrick Kincaid how lucky you were to see Robin live, being in the same room as him! It must have been electrifying! Ive loved him since Mork and Mindy times xxxxx
***** Hi ya I was young too! 13 years old! He was adorable in that! Don't we all wish we could have helped Robin, talked to him, listened, understood, helped him, loved him. Trouble is we did all love him, he just didn't know............ I honestly don't think he truly realised, despite it being blatantly obvious by audience reaction when he was on stage/doing interviews, he always seemed surprised by the demonstrations of affection towards him. I also believe that he saw a very bleak dependent future for himself, and simply could not bare the idea of not being to do what he does best - make people laugh. I truly believe in his depressed state he could not bare the thought of his wife and family ending up his carers............................
hi Patrick. thanks for the comment. I was there also and was gonna say the same thing. I think he was on for 30 mins or so? When I watched it on tv the next week I realised they'd edited a lot out to make it fit into the show ! I also recall we weren't told who the guests were. ANyone remember who the other 2 were ?
@@melita65 - We will never know, sadly...but I've heard similar suggestions before. All that's certain is that he was suffering from Lewey Body Dementia, which can easily affect a person's thoughts and emotions. For someone as already energetic as Robin, his disease probably accelerated his mind and heart beyond his own control.
Meeting Robin Williams was certainly an incredible moment for me and let me share with you that he had the strongest hand shake of any man. He was an extraordinary man with more talent than anyone in history. There will never be another Robin.
My friend you are correct about that handshake of Robins. I too got the chance to meet him in our hometown of San Francisco and he gave me a strong handshake. Amazing you experienced the same.
When anyone can subdue Clive Anderson's non-stop patter like Robin Williams did here , then you know you are in the presence of an exalted comedy genius.
A comedy genius ,made a joke out of anything ,incredibly quick ,highly intelligent ,brilliant impressionist ,and when he is serious ,so interesting to listen to him. So sad he is gone.
465marco wtf. You must be some happy guy, looking down on people only because you don’t share their humor sense. And yet, up to certain point I have to agree with you; your brain seems to be both: a fart and a joke.
Yeh he was a comedy genius ,amazingly talented at improv and very quick witted ,unfortunately he was bipolar and I think he wore himself out constantly being funny all the time ,as you can see in this interview hes very rarely being himself I actually find him sad to watch sometimes rather than funny
I have watched "almost" every interview of Robin Williams, . . . one thing that amazes me each time is his amazing sense of humor and energy he had. . . it's impossible for him to sit for more than 5 min . . . he was truly a great comedian. i miss him :(
Been fitting anxiety and stress lately and watching Robin Williams relax me and reduces the severity of the issues. Thanks God for this guy. A gift to humanity. RIP
Please don't thank god.. thank robin. He did all the work. . God let him do all this for us, yet gave him a drug problem... and let him die to young. There is no god, and thanking for one thing and ignoring another is wrong.
Clive Anderson is actually criminally underrated, comically but here he couldn't cope with Robin but the best thing was he just went with it, and got in a couple of great quips at the end too. Possibly my fav ever Robin interview this!!
One thing I noticed about Robin Williams was that he lived on the laughs. The crowd energized him. His performance in front of an audience was a sight to behold. He energy got us through some tough times and will be missed.
You can see that he put so much energy into every ounce of performance... its no wonder that it sadly, admittedly left him dry. You can tell he felt alive during making other people happy - just sad that he went the way he did and not many people knew or could do anything about it. Just goes to show, when you know what deep unhappiness looks like, all you want to do is put the people around you anywhere but in that place. God bless you Robin, may your soul now find the peace it deserves.
I've suffered from depression and I've a fair idea of what he went thru but it must have been much worse for him because he was famous. He will always be rembered and never forgotten and I personally will have a place in my heart for this wonderful man and the fantastic legacy he left behind him. Rip Robin Williams 🙏
TJAnon15 , ditto! I've barely began, today, to be able to watch him w/O balling, I have cried a bit a few times, my children in the other hand can't quite yet.
Robin Williams was / is still one of the best comedians there ever was. When he sadly took his own life he left. A lot of people with a big void, he was so funny and he could spin a joke right there on the spot. I will miss him greatly and I have thought of him lots of times over the years, i will undoubtably think of him in the years to com. I hope you are Resting In Peace Robin, lord knows we could do with some of your wit.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,..
Recently I lost a friend to a similar tragedy. I ran across this and it afforded a moment of thoughtful grace at having known my friend and the grace of laughter. It left me with a big smile...
he tried to please other people and forgot to have the fun himself. I read he tried to make his mother laugh who was depressed, well some can't take life as it comes with pain
This is the first footage of Robin Williams that I've watched since his death. For 5 years, I just haven't been able to bring myself to watch the things of his that I used to enjoy. I wish we could have done something to make you stay, Robin. I wish someone could have eased your pain, like you did ours;
It wasn't a matter of easing his pain. He had Lewy Body Dementia misdiagnosed in the media (not sure about his actual doctors) as Parkinsons. He left on his own terms which was way better than any other result from that illness.
God i love Robin! Its a really tearjerker to see this and knowing that he is gone. Brilliant entertainer. He is truly a one of a kind. RIP Mr Williams.
This what I loved about Robin he changes tact so god damn fast its awesome, the interviewer hasn't got a chance in hell of keeping up with him. The world is not the same anymore without Robin , he just made people smile and laugh , just the name Robin Williams made people smile and l for one miss him . Godspeed Robin
Fantastic. What a great interview. Clive let Robin be Robin and sat back and enjoyed the show that is Robin Williams. What a massive loss but a huge contribution to other peoples happiness. Love RW. X Gone but far from forgotten. Great comedian but an even finer actor.
It took someone like the late great Robin Williams, to actually not allow Clive Anderson to hardly get a word in, which was some achievement. r.i.p. Robin (Sadly Missed)
I've wondered what Robin Williams was doing in a regular conversation with people who have. to. ponder. ev-e-ry. thought. and... think... slow-ly. before.they... speak, when his mind was racing at Mach 5. It must have been painful for him to wait for other people to stop speaking. The man was an absolute talent, a master at his craft. Imagine how painful it must have been for him to realise that his illness prevented him from operating at that speed of thinking when it had always come so easy to him. RIP Robin Williams
I'd guess that a brain with his capabilties just reduced the energy output for the conversation to the needed amount and let the rest go for another flight :)
I actually did have the opportunity of meeting Robin in 1981. We were on a business trip and it was the last night and so we were doing what all over promoted 22-year-olds do we were hitting the clubs and getting loaded. And we were in the comedy club, and he came out Walked right off the stage and into the audience and started going to the table as he chose and making comments and he got to our table and he asked me where I was from and I said Joliet Illinois to which he replied, not quite the end of the world, but you can see it from there. To this day and I am 66 years old. There is not a time when anyone in our family is asked where we’re from that we don’t reply Joliet Illinois not quite the end of the world but you can see it from there. It was one of the best nights of my life. it broke my heart when he died. It was just a year after I lost my dad and at that point I don’t think I ever felt so alone.
HAHAHAHAHAHA i am so happy to have found this...Williams portraying a fly and a bee...what about the slow motion thing... And the stereotypes of New Yorkers...so perfect! Gosh, he is very much missed...So creative, so funny! Extraordinary!
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,..
LOVED this video!! There's SO many he's made and this just made my day. Can anyone keep a straight face around him? NO. I'm with Rich, on this one. My face hurts too, from laughing and grinning SO much!! Robin Williams will always live on forever in our hearts!! He knew how to entertain us and keep us laughing.
Clive Anderson looks like he doesn't like Robin upstaging him and wants him to stick to just answering his questions. Robin just goes into his thing and its brilliant!
That beautiful man had so much going on behind those beautiful eyes. I read something which a Priest had said to an attendee of a funeral for their friend that committed suicide. We should commend and honor the days that they fought rather than focusing on the day that they lost their battle.
Jonathan Carr : my understanding is that it wasnt necessarily depression that was the motive, but that he realized he had a serious illness...the name of which escapes me...but it was a brain disorder which would lead to a progressive degeneration in his faculties. I believe he did a pre-emptive strike on his own terms, rather than slowly dissolve. Dont blame him a bit.
Sadly he did have an off switch called lewy bodies dementia. The world needs you Mr.Williams but you have done your part to make life more tolerable. Rest in peace.
Wow 😂 only discovering this Robin video now and it’s the best one yet i’am in tears here. And thing is I used to watch Clive show and more than likely watched this when I a kid, Guarantee I never laughed this much. What a genius Robin was.
@ Mark O'Sullivan I first saw this on the above date when I was 13. It was my little friend's 6th birthday that day too. I had been waiting in anticipation for this show on BBC1. This particular episode! And I wasn't disappointed! I had recorded this on my video recorder that time, but due to circumstances beyond my control, the recording (& a lot of my recordings) was given to various charity shops. Boy, was I unhappy about that! But I am soooo happy that at least someone out there decided to put this up. Thank you very much for putting this up, I have been looking for this episode for YEARS on RU-vid, hoping that someone, a fan, would've put it on.And at last, it is here! Thanks for sharing this.Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!! :-D
Every time I see Robin Williams he makes me smile. I miss him. He is so talented and thinks so fast. Way ahead of his time and highly intelligent. God Bless him.
*Wasn't he just plain marvelous and delightful to watch ? stream of consciousness at its best. ... always a clown. rest in peace, weary warrior. rest in peace.*
He is still the funniest man on the planet. Everytime I go online I do a search for him. Think I've seen the most of Mr. Williams but once in a while I get to see something new. RIP Dear Captain...
Just like a massive star in our Universe. He burned through his Comedy fuel at a very fast rate and left us way too soon and wanting so much more. But am grateful for all the body of work that's he's left behind. Much of it on RU-vid and other video mediums for me and others to enjoy his comedy gifts forever. RIP
I love how Clive just couldn't keep up with Robin throughout the entire interview, but then right at the end, throws out the perfect one liner. Robin truly brought it out of people. I wish we could get more.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,...
it's great that we can watch all these interviews and performances on youtube. it's a great legacy of a great man. Rest in peace the internal Robin Williams x
Their will never be another actor like this guy. He was always so full of life, loved making people laugh and he was incredibly soft spoken. Smile my boy it's sunrise Robin Williams 1951-2014
...and for me that would be every day. Every evening I watch AT LEAST one video of him but it over and over again so I can laugh laugh laugh. Thank you Sir Robin.
Such a beautiful human being. We all have issues and he dealt with his the way that he felt appropriate. May he rest in peace and the rest of the world remember who he and his family were and still are. Thank you.
