Sebastian doesn't exactly pity you. He works with you because you give him documents which helps him get closer to bartering for his escape. He basically works like this: "You help me, I help you" which is also why he won't hesitate to actually kill you if you annoy him too much (yes you will eventually be able to die to him but I won't explain how although it's not related to going back in and out repeatedly)

I don't think Sebastian "pities us" We need some sort of documents to buy stuff from him. So possibly instead of going out and trying to find documents himself risking encountering the monster he just lets player do it. As NOL mentioned he tried to cooperate with a company for freedom, so possibly company asked for more documents and info than Sebastian provided so he needs player to provide those documents, in turn Sebastian sells us stuff we might need. Most likely final boss will be a trench bleeder or security robot because after all the AI is the one that cares about a power system

*mad theory crafter stuff* Rewatching this again after learning the lore and stuff i think i can assume That we’re the people that made it successfully through the experimentation since seb regards us as a friend, :unsure: so that would mean we’re one of the test subjects that has some sort of revival powers with seb repeatedly talking to us about returning” in a way. We’re a part of the expendable unit because we can revive, if urban shade just kept sending normal people, they would have nobody left to send, expendable. Its also made clear that seb is still chained to urban shade in a way because we could see him showing us files in the lobby and talking to us and being forced to help us. Far fetched territory incoming: its all a disguise as the true purpose of him helping us is to steal the crystal from us since seb can’t physically obtain it himself, theres also an unreleased badge about getting murked/probably killed) by seb called “you deserve this” which further supports the idea that he kills us to steal it if we dont agree to give it to him or maybe its like a multiple ending sort of stuff. The way seb works is also kind of odd. We have two currencies, assets and kroner. He sells us stuff as kroner in the ship, he’s forced to help players that make it close to the crystal(which is why we’ve given kroner) if you can link that up. But then he runs like a back alley deal in door 50 like he’s hiding, we’re supposed to reacquire these assets as our secondary objective but seb is selling us stuff for it? Idk. (From before you even start the game, above servers is badges and going to the very bottom you’ll see some strange badges looking nobody’s gotten yet) one last thing, its a small detail to why the doors are all different, each time we’re actually sent to a different entry way to the hadal site and with a new navi path as the safest way. I noticed that the cabinets look different and also always has radom loot to as supposed, empty from other people trying to get the crystal. But i know this for a fact, the person on the intercom when we enter and leave the submarine is probably mr shade cuz one of his rare voices lines he talks a bout a cat and in the trench bleeder files it says Mr.Shade owns a cat. But we will have to wait and see for this one. Late at night when im. Writing thus this probably most definitely has inconsistency. Dont take it as a fact but keep it in your mind as a list of possibilities.

Fact (Not a fun one, but it still is): Many people have been asking “Is Sebastian “breedable”? Here’s my response, please stop being horny over a male anthropomorphic sea serpent. Sebastian’s the only one of his “kind” (If you can even say it that way), so he’s technically functionally extinct, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) (If he even was part of a species to begin with, in which he wasn’t.). However, like Dolly the Sheep, he could maybe be cloned over and over again to “conserve”… his… species- but why? That’s bullshit. All of the clones would be male either way. There’s no point in that. Anyway, if researchers and/or scientists somehow manage to clone a female version of Sebastian, then yes, yes Sebastian is “breedable”. It’s just that the female wouldn’t be called Sebastian Solace, she would be named “Sebastianna” or “Sebastianne” (Her last name would still be Solace.). But right now, in the current game’s canonical events, no, no Sabby (Or Sebby, a nickname for Sebastian) is not “breedable”. However, even if people successfully made a female clone of Sebastian, it would be considered “incest” by many, since after all, the two are technically related. Some may call it “incest”, others know it as “selfcest” (PLEASE, DON’T FUCKING SEARCH THAT UP.), but either way it still is a highly unethical way of conserving Sebastian Solace’s “species”, if you can even call it one. Okay I feel like people shouldn't like this game off like it's a doors rip off. Because it's more SCP vendors it just uses doors gameplay loop. No I definitely think Sebastian is more like curious light having their own motives that somewhat aligned with us the player so they help us. Not very much though since both acts snarky.
