RoboCop (Joel Kinnaman) breaks his way through heavy forces in an effort to rescue his family.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A powerful multinational conglomerate attempts to bring robotic law enforcement to the United States by transforming a critically injured police officer into a cyborg cop in this remake of the subversive 1987 sci-fi classic. The year is 2028. For a long time, cutting-edge robotics company OmniCorp has been supplying the U.S. military with drones for use overseas, though their repeated attempts to bring the technology stateside has met with fierce resistance. When devoted family man and upstanding Detroit policeman Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is grievously wounded in the line of duty, OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellars (Michael Keaton) attempts to innovate by recruiting top scientist Dennett Norton (Gary Oldman) to transform Murphy into a prototype half-man/half-robot crime-fighter. When initial tests fail to provide the results OmniCorp had hoped for, Norton reprograms Robocop to operate strictly on software rather than human emotion. Later, Robocop finally hits the streets, and the citizens of the crime-ridden city welcome him with open arms. But as Murphy's emotions begin to interfere with his programming, he sets out to find the criminals who nearly killed him, and ensure that justice is served. Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. I do like that even though they gave the Ed-209 an updated design for this movie, they still kept its silhouette and overall shape in such a manner that at a glance its still "Yeah that's an ED-209, just with more attitude."

Both versions are awesome. I love the original for its "chunky/beefy" feel, while the updated versions look like streamlined editions. I'm 100% cool with both.

The award for biggest balls of the year goes to Louis for jumping in front of a firing Ed 209 to save his partner. He probably knew it wouldn't fire on him, but you can never be sure, and he just walked right up while it was still shooting. Dude is a BOSS!

Seriously definitely ballsy as hell. Like I'm sure he probably realized there was a slim chance the ED-209 might classify him as a threat due to earlier actions but still took the risk that it'd stand down so long as he assumed the "I Surrender" pose.

They're similar in some ways, but if you take one while expecting the other, you'll be disappointed. This movie's got a great flavour, but the problem (which I, as a Transformers fan, understand) is that it doesn't taste like RoboCop.

The thing this showcases is that while the suit isn't invincible, it can easily get to the point where it can actually take these things down if it had a little more firepower. All Murphy needed was something like an armor piercing weapon or grenade rounds and it would be a fairly even match. Small caliber was the issue since the guns that he had were ill suited for taking down armored units.

This movie was very well done, the director of this movie did Elite Squad 1&2 Two Brazilian socio political movies that in my opinion are foreign classics and a must watch. This director is an above average man of high caliber cinema. Get at me when you watch them.

So after rewatching it after all these years, it could have been a great reboot, but it still needed a lot of work, if anything, there could have been some more drama in this scene, that Alex would’ve had to make a sacrifice, instead of the robotic hand getting stuck, it would have been his right hand, and Alex would have had to make a sacrifice of choosing between his duty, or getting rid of the one thing that made him feel human, his hand. And in a dramatic turn, Alex is forced to separate himself from his human hand, the one thing that’s able to touch his son’s head when being hugged, and the back of Clara when hugging her, that would devastate him, but he does it so that he can make Detroit safe for his wife and son.

technology was limited back in the 80's. Something like the ED-209 was impossible to do with what they had originally envisioned. A model using stop motion and animal sounds was the best they could do. 80's movies with sci fi and tech were littered with it all over the place. That odd disconnect from reality is what made them that way and it worked. However even back then stop motion never really. . . .impressed me it was so jarring it looked like a toy thats learning how to walk. These CGI ED-209's do not look or sound like toys. I get alot of people dislike heavy CGI use in movies these days but with technology as it is and how high definition cameras are the ol ways of models wouldn't work anymore.

@@Darth1Marik The old Robocop was never about convincing action scenes. And even with CGI, Paul Verhoeven would've made the same ED-209, just with more fluid and believeable motion. Robocop was a dark, even cynical piece of film which saw the action only as a byproduct to tell the story. So no, the limited technology wasn't a factor at all. Verhoeven even gave an interview where he said that they didn't understand what the old Robocop was all about. Same goes for the aweful Total Recall remake.

I love this movie so much. I rewatched it many times. I like the modernized take on robocop in this remake. Plus the cgi is top notch. I can’t understand the hate this movie is receiving. Because of the nostalgia of the original we maybe never got a sequel to this one. Which would’ve been surely amazing.

For me, everytime I see this version of *ED-209* I can't help but notice how much it resemblance a radar detector with legs. *Another thing!* How in the world was *RoboCop* able to shot off his own arm with a smaller caliber weapon but ED209's double barrel, rapid firing weapons with the larger caliber couldn't penetrate that armor...

They did shed his armor, just not cut off pieces. It's a bit of "can opener" effect. Imagine trying to open a 10-pound can of food. A pick-ax has more than enough power to piece the can, but it won't peel off the lid, as the repeated blows don't overlap. Robocop using his gun is a bit like a cheap can-opener, he starts at one side, and each shot slightly overlaps with the path of the last, creating a tear.

Umm, did you SEE what what was left after all those hits. He took WAY too much damage in this movie from small arms. The other guys said "Everyone load up with .50cal..Um no, they were using MP5s and MP7s, they are NOT .50 Beowulf capable. The ED 209s are probably using something like 7.62x51mm like a M134 Mini gun, which it does have on the middle section, but you can't fire Super high-powered rounds at those rates of fire like the 209s were doing without it being HUGE, like a GAU8 Avenger that's mounted on a A-10.

@@isaned "bulletproof" doesn't really mean what you think. Repeated hits do have an accumulated effect. If robocop too thousands of hits from 9mm hit armor should show damage. He's basically designed to shrug off a few guys with small arms and, if needed, get repaired afterwards.

You can take away Murphy’s Humanity, you can try to make him a mindless machine to put his family behind him, but when you take his family and try to make him do what you want; You’ve crossed the line, and signed your death warrant. It’s not the his circuitry that makes him defy his orders, it’s him his spirit that’s the part his owners cannot break and that’s the part that can arrest them.

This movie did a lot of things right. It was missing the gratuitous violence of the orginal though. That was part of what made it awesome. This remake feels toothless because of it. Remember when that dude got melted by the toxic waste in the original? Of course you do. It was badass.

The A. I. of the ED209 had to make a decision. It was searching for a clear shot, and it also felt Officer Murphy will start attacking if it does not fire soon, and the A. I. made a compromise. It had to start firing to avoid Officer Murphy starting to attack.

The big robots are certainly an improvement over the original in terms of design and visual effects. The original robots were good at the time too.

This and the old robocop makes me think of resident evil 1 vs resident evil 6, murphy in the originals has tank controls, no jump or even sprint, which lead to some pretty suspenseful moments (like when he faced off against the ed-209 and could only barely move out of the way), this murphy needs a few ed’s to face off against, since mobility creep OP lol.
