Weller carries across a sense of triumph in that line - this "revenant" has regained the sense of identity friends ("Murphy - it's you!") and foes ("We killed you!") throughout the film knew was there
When I first saw the film, I loved how it was a moment ahead of me (for me, at least). When the old man tells Dick he's fired, I laughed because I thought it was the only thing the old man could think of to hurt him, and it was completely ineffective in that context. Then a moment later, Directive 4 dissolves and Murphy gives a quick "thank you," and I caught up to what had just happened. A great moment where the film was very smartly constructed.
@@stevenwatchorn9816 I had a similar reaction. The movie is well written, but it also doesn't drag out it's run time. A single line of dialog, or even a single piece of body language can be important. I also liked that the end credits started immediately after Weller's last line. There was no need to wrap anything more up. We knew Lewis would be okay after treatment for her wounds, because Murphy had made that point both in speech and by his own survival. It's a smart film. There was a final deleted scene of Lewis alive in hospital, but this was redundant.
Murphy knew the only way he could act against Jones would be if Jones was no longer with the company, so he informed the board, and specifically the Old Man, how his program could not allow him to act against an officer of OCP. He took the chance if the Old Man knew this, he would fire Jones, thus allowing him to act. Fortunately, the Old Man fired Jones.
I love how the end credit title looks exactly the same as Starship Troopers' intro title. The song also remind me a lot of Starship Troopers. Two great movies. Paul Verhoeven is awesome.
Sorry, but Starship Troopers is a slap in the face to Heinlein. Read the book; you opinion of Verhoeven will change. Still love this movie, and many others by Paul; but if I ever see him in person, I'm punching him in the face for what he did to Troopers.
I love how Robocop confrunts Dick Jones so that he can get fired, so Directive 4 can be deleted and he can kill Jones (because Robocop doesn't arrest people, he just shoots the crap out of them).
I was a theater usher when this was in release. I recall hearing this end title theme five times a day as I did my job sweeping up popcorn and picking up paper cups after the crowd cleared out. Good times...
1:35 to 2:04 is my favourite part of the soundtrack. It *Perfectly* sums up the character without any words. Just hearing that, you know he's a tragic hero who's been through hell but has come out stronger than ever.
This is the ONLY Robocop I believe in, Peter Weller. The rest are horrible. This is the best one, I then saw the second. I knew, even then, that it was the end. You have a great movie, you can make a sequel. Don't go beyond that though in most cases.
Me encantan los finales musicales en las peliculas porque, casi siempre, hacen un excelente resumen de los temas de fondo que hubieron durante esta. Y aquí no es la excepción. ¡Increible la secuencia final de Robocop, junto a una magistral banda sonora! Saludos!
