This is the most real test of S7 MaxV with longest observation time I've seen so far. It lets me realize that obstacle avoidance is still not 100% even for S7 MaxV.
Thanks! To be completely transparent most robot vacuums with object avoidance struggle with these objects. I am hopeful one day it won't be the case. Otherwise it is still useful tech if you understand and accept the limits.
Cool! It actually has a LED light, a big progress compared with the previous model S6maxV. How amazing that S7maxV could even detect floor type and furniture type. I can't wait to test it myself!
It's a real test, Jamie! The LED light looks so cool in dark. Sincerely want to have the S7MaxV, its obstacle avoidance is really helpful, and I won't have to worry about my littering, which might cause the vacuum to sweep useful stuff into the dustbin. Just missed the early bird discount🙃 Look forward to its Prime Day sale!
I've recently bought an S7 here in Europe and was kinda bummed that I didn't see the newer MaxV. My dog lives in the yard so poop on the carpet is an occasion of the past. My main concern was about the suction power being (at least looking at the official numbers) double that of the S7, but now I can rest knowing the difference is not significant. Actually, I first bought the very cheap Xiaomi Vacuum Mop Pro for my mom and I've realized that even if the robot fails to extract some debris from the carpet, it will pick it up in consequent cleans. So overall Xiaomi makes some excellent robot vacuums that don't break the bank. It's just confusing that they make them with so many different brands and models, it becomes tough to choose the one you really need. Thanks to channels like yours that task is far easier. Keep it up! :)
Nice review as always!! I did not know something new would come out so soon. Just had my s7 plus around 5 months, but only using it 2 months now. Oh well... I forgot that empty dock in the robot. How often do I have to check that? Also the mop works great but can only use just plain water and it gets dirty quick. I stop it after 1 room and then wash it and start it back... Wish there was some clean water to rinse the mop to keep it clean... Thank You..
Hi Jamie, good video! One thing I don't like about the robot and the app, is that there is no manual for either that goes into any depth...or maybe I'm just missing them?
I'm in the market for a new robot and the S7 MaxV Ultra looks like a great combo. The S7 MaxV is starting to appear here in Europe but not the Ultra dock. Do you think the total cost will be much more if I buy them separately? Also, I thought the S7+ would get cheaper soon. Have you heard anything? Whats's the usual price drop schedule?
I have a Roborock S7 and run it on Balanced mode as I found the extra suction power in turbo mode causes more air out of the exhaust which causes light stuff like hair to be blown out of it's path and not picked up.
Thank you for doing a real test. I got my S7 on black Friday and enjoy it. I didn't buy the dock since that was out of budget. I am considering buying the dock or upgrading when the time is right, but I worry about privacy issues with the camera on the Max. I like my S7 but recently have been disappointed since the little piece between the window sensors has been chipping off. I am not sure if this is because it has had to climb over a minor hump in flooring or what it is. It is concerning since it's not that old.
Hey Ana, it sounds like the robot is getting hung on something as this is not something I have seen or heard of before. As far as privacy goes that is always something everyone should consider. We are told no images are transmitted to Roborock and only stored locally. By default the video conference option is turned off.
@@jamie.andrews I am wondering that as well, but how do I avoid it if I put the vacuum on full mode? I also feel like that means the quality of the material used may not be as strong as I had hoped for.
Just ordered! Super excited! So I have a ranch house but two of the rooms dining room off of kitchen and front room) raised with like a 3 inch step. I am assuming I can just pick it up and let it go to work when its done like the kitchen.
You I'll need to create separate floors or levels for the robot. When the robot is creating the initial map it won't drop off stairs nor will it go up and over that high of a threshold therefore it won't map that in the initial mapping. Once you create a second map (think of the dining room as another level in your home) when you pick it up and put it there it will figure out it is on a different level. You will of course have to carry it back to the dock. Hope this helps.
If you don't need mopping and the dock I might look elsewhere for something cheaper. I am not sure if the issue has been fixed but the S6 MaxV was not good on carpet for pickup ability. The S6 MaxV is also a much older vacuum with less powerful motor. The object recognition is roughly the same between the 2 though. If object recognition is not that important (frankly I feel it is overhyped by a large degree) then you should look at the S7. If you still want object avoidance also look at the Dreame L10 Pro and save a ton of money. I wish the Roborock Q series had object avoidance.
I think it might not be able to see objects because of the pattern on the carpet that's tricking it into thinking it's part of the pattern of the carpet... maybe?
I would say yes if it did not have lasers in addition to the camera. The lasers are able to see solid objects in it's path while the camera is used to identify what the objects are. In Roborock's newest model the Q Revo there is no camera and only a laser system for object avoidance. On a side note Roborock had fixed the issue and it works perfectly. Take a look at my latest video on the S8 Pro VS the S7 Maxv for a demo.
@@jamie.andrews awesome, so instead of putting the base station in my living room I can put it on the 2nd floor and take the robot down whenever I want to do the ground-floor (same for 1st floor).
Good video. I just checked the app. it looks like they took away the defender mode in the pin menu? If they did thats a bummer that was a cool feature.
@@Alex-lp6bg It was similar to the now cupid mode, however still different. Once enabled the S7 MaxV would go around hunting for other robot vacuums in your home and when spotted gently ram into them while making angry noises. Roborock pulled it back once the Ukraine War stared and replaced it with cupid mode.
Thanks ! Just watched all your videos about the Roborock S7 Max and you are doing great reviews 👍 I have one quite technical question though … I mean very technical 😱 I have one single room that is 15 centimetres (roughly 5 inches I think). If I add a ramp, what is the maximum angle of the ramp that the robot will accept to climb / consider as a usual part of the floor ? Anyone who can answer this will be my champion 😇
Lol well that depends on the thickness of the ramp and the breakover angle of the threshold. Honestly it is something you would have to play around with to see if it would work.
This is exactly why i still dont believe obstacles avoidance is worth it yet. Most videos I have seen around test it with the cable rolled up, and not like you showed, which is how usually cables are laying around, so im waiting to upgrade to a hopefully "S7 ultra" or smth like that.
A bunch of other channels rush videos out for views so they miss the opportunity to work with the robots long enough to really find their strengths and weaknesses. I don't want someone buying a robot under the wrong impression from my channel. Honestly no robot vacuum is perfect with object avoidance yet. That does not mean one should not invest in the technology though. Pet owners could greatly benefit from this tech. Thanks for your support!
After watching this video of the Roborock S7 MaxV, and the Ultra. I'd like to see Roborock with two cleaning brushes instead of one. Is the Roborock Company going to create a Roborock self cleaning vacuum with two cleaning brushes?
A bit disapointed that the MaxV ultra base/dock does not have a bagless option. The auto empty dock is great in that regards for pet owner. With dog hair, I run the vacuum three Times a day and the bin is Always full.
@@rxappdev Yea I am curious about that. I'm not sure how you could wash a bag unless there is a way to seperate it somehow. Also you would need 2 if you want to vacuum daily since one will be drying. It could get expensive.
@@jamie.andrews For some reason my comments keep disappearing. I tried to post a link but that disappeared, so instead I tried to explain what you could search for but it's gone as well. So lets try again, if you google up "Roborock looks like the dust bag is reusable" you will find a reddit post that shows the official photo of the bag being washed. There was a post on reddit about the bag being made of plastic and lasting 6-12 months. So it sits in the dock, empties your S7 MaxV for like 6-8 weeks, then you somehow empty the bag and wash it. The bags are supposed to be sold separately from the dock as an addon.
Hello Jamie. When there is more than one robot registered in the roborock application, when adding a new model, does it use the map already created by the others or does it redo it again?
good evening can i ask a question I bought the roborock s7 maxv... is it true that anyone does it anyway, do I want the roborock s7 maxv plus or the s7 maxv plus ultra?
The video looks great. I become a little envious on the owner of S7MaxV, as it costs only $200 more than my S7, but seems much better than S7. The camera of robot seems making robot get a lot of extra features. I may buy one when I need an additional robot or my S7 retires. Thank you for your video
I am considering biting the bullet to get one of these.... I have mainly carpet (but I am looking to move) I was considering the budget option of the Z10 Pro with the auto empty and object avoidance. But I am also looking at the roborock 7 MaxV. In the UK I can get the... Dreamebot Z10 Pro for £420 Roborock s7 max v (no dock) for £625 Roborock s7 max v plus (not ultra) for £790 Do you think its worth paying the extra money for the newer model (roborock) with the vibra rise system? - I cant currently get the Ultra dock in the UK.
It comes down to mopping. The moping on the Z10 is no where near as good as the S7 MaxV. If mopping is important look at the S7 MaxV. Otherwise both are good vacuums.
I have 3 cats and they are both good for cat hair. The extra power of the MaxV is kinda hard to unleash as you have to toggle it on each time you vacuum and it resets after the cleaning. You also can't mop with the Max plus mode turned on. The main benefits for the MaxV is the Ultra Dock which is fantastic and the Reactive AI.
I am not sure the exact amount and the amount varies based on a setting in the app that you can change to adjust the amount of time it cleans the pad. There are 3 modes. Since the Ultra dock refills the water tank how much water you put on your mopping pad based on a setting in the app affect the water level. It uses way less water than the competition that relies on sending out a soaked mop pad each time. The S7 can lift the mopping pad on the way to and from the dock so it is not wasting water on floors that do not need to be mopped. It is very efficient comparatively.
I am returning my Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni because I literally spent 2 days trying to extend a map by opening doors of rooms that were not initially mapped. I could not do it even though the documentation says that you can. Before I buy a Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, can someone confirm that it is possible to extend an existing map by opening the door to a room that was not open during the initial mapping? THANKS.
@@jamie.andrews it worked now iam so happy.. i bought a power extension volt 220v to 110v which is the same power for the vacuum although the company roborock told me it wont work ... i plugged that power extension and wooohooo works perfectly the dust case finally.
I’ve been looking to upgrade from my current Roomba/Braava set up to the S7 Max, however I’ve read online that a relatively common issue people have is that some plastic bits scrape the floor, causing scratches everywhere. I assume since you didn’t mention it, you don’t have such an issue?
Yea it can clear thresholds no greater than 20mm or .8 inches. Roborock sells detergent you can buy on Amazon called ONO that is compatible with all of their mops.
Do you know if there will be any promos to bundle the robot and dock together when the dock is released? Or should I go ahead and buy the robot now and the dock later?
I do not know, but I am trying to find out. If it is like the S7 there was no discount for the bundle at release. Heck there is no discount for the S7 MaxV Plus combo which is odd since you can now buy they separately cheaper.
Hi Thank you for the infomative video. I have just purchased my s7 max but yet to receive it... Q: in the middle of my house i have one step which i made it a slope ( instead of a step) it's 10cm in lengths and 5 cm of hight. Will the robo be able to climb it...? I guess I'll know the answers in few days... or maybe you have an answer... Thanks. Amitai klein Isreal
Will this allow you to set no go zones in a room? We have wool rugs and it's a pain to have to roll them up every time we vacuum. I've been begging Roomba to add this feature, but they don't seem to care.
There are only 2 types of updates. 1 is the app on your phone and the other is firmware updates that are applied to the robot itself through the app in your phone.
I just want to ask about mopping in s7 and s7mxv. I'm a little afraid of using it because i don't want to damage my wood panels like in your video. Does s7/maxv leaves a lot of water on the panels or it is slightly damp?
i own an s7 plus, which is exactly the same mopping as the maxv. I always use it at max water setting, the trace of water is not much, it dries out in less than a minute or 2.
It applies pressure to the mopping pad to get most of the water out. There is no air drying though. This has not been a problem for me though. The mopping pad gets washed before every cleaning.
Can the Ultra dock fresh water tank have a hint of floor cleaner or will it clog the system? It’s not really automatic if one has to spray floor cleaner in front of the robot.
@@jamie.andrews Thanks for the quick reply! Just bought the plus version for “only” 869 euros, which was much cheaper than on other websites (1000 euros). Let’s see if I one day upgrade and buy the ultra station with an offer.
Could you please provide us with the water consumption of the station water tank to refill the robot tank and wash the mops, for exemple if set to medium scrub and return to station every 100 square/feet (or based on your usual settings). Thx
@@jamie.andrews My concern is very simple, will I be able to MOP all the rooms whith one full clean water tank (station tank), as I want the mop to be cleaned every 100 sqare feet.
