I recently upgraded my traditional vacuum as I couldn't bring it up to spend this much on a robot vacuum, but I still love to see videos like this demonstrating all the incredible features.
I've used the S5 MAX for 3 years. My 4 bedrooms are carpeted and the living room has an 8x10' area rug. I have an Australian Shepherd who sheds a LOT! The S5 Max's single roller brush with bristles picks up the hair well, but gets dog hair wrapped around it a lot, including at the ends, and the dustbin fills up quickly, so that I have to pause vacuuming after each two rooms to empty it. So, I decided to get the 8+ for its auto-emptying feature (mopping isn't that important to me). I really looked forward to using it, especially the auto-emptying, even if I still had to stop the vac every two rooms so that it could return to dock and empty. BUT, I was severely disappointed to find that the S8+ won't even pick up the dog hair on carpet, certainly not much of it. The clumps are still there on the carpet after vacuuming, even if I do a room 3 times! So I would either have to pick up the hair clumps before or after vacuuming. The vac does auto-empty fine, but it didn't make my effort during vacuuming any more successful or easier. So, I returned the S8+ today. Its 2 roller brushes, which lack bristles, just don't do a good job of picking up dog hair. I didn't assess its performance on non-carpeted areas, because the hair was more visible on carpet. I have no reason to think any of the other S8 models would do any better, and I don't know of a self-emptying vac from another brand that would be any better, either. If any of you do, please let me know.
It was a great comparison, just want to mention for those who are concerned about the mop wetting feature, you can have similar functionality in the non-pro version as well when you schedule a cleaning task and not start immediately.
Hello, from Norway. Thank you for helping me to choose. I bought my very first robot last week. I choose the S8. Now, after a week I want to change it to S8+. I don't like to empty the vacuum ;) My parents, 84 years old, also bought their first robot, the same day as me. They are very happy with the S8. I will return my S8 to the store, and get a new one. If I had more money to spend I have definitely bought the Ultra.
One stop video that provides wholesome video that differentiate latest S8 series at its best. Being new to robo vaccum your videos helped me to understand technicalities and different functions of robo vaccums. Now I could confidently shop new robo vacuum with the help your videos. Thank you so much❤
I love this very useful review of the different versions of the Roborock S8 as i didn’t know which is the best vacuum for my home. I am now convinced that the S8 is perfect for my great room with hardwood floors. Great work guys…
Thanks for another great & informative video! Amazing how far these have come over the last few years! Looking forward to one day having my own little bot rolling about picking up dust bunnies!
Thank you for the informative video. I really like that the s8 brushes can go up during mopping so that it doesn't get the brushes dirty if I'm mopping something wet.
Just a quick tip (you probably already know but others may not) - don’t mop super wet things with a robot. They’re designed for damp surfaces but not actually removing liquids. It’ll cause corrosion internally long term
The s8 ultra dock would be a worthy upgrade, afterall the greatest appeal of a robot vacuum compared to a traditional vacuum is the convenience and time saving aspects and features! Thank you for another great review
If I had to choose I’d take the plus over the ultra dock. Having mixed floors and not having the opportunity to remove the mop module would freak me out I think 😂 what the could add to the auto empty station is a mop drying creature so it does not stink that much after coming home from work after few hours. Just my two cents 😅 Lovely video tho, the definition of the robots on that whiteboard really helped me understand the naming at Roborock ❤
Haha I need to get the white board out again! I think it takes more than a few hours for it to stink if it was clean beforehand or used regularly! Thanks for the comment.
I just purchased a refurbished s7 for upstairs as our dog never goes up there and it's not occupied very much. I'm wanting an s8 pro ultra for downstairs though. Thank you for the explanation as it helped remove some of the confusion I had surrounding the models.
Have had my S5Max for 4 years and 4 different homes now. It’s dependable and easy to get it to map new areas. I bought 2 other well reviewed brands for my finished basement and third floor. I used the RoboRock on the main floor. The non-RoboRock vacs are having battery issues but the RoboRock (the oldest vac is still running strong!! Looking at the 8+
I would definitely go with the S8 Pro Ultra because of the mop cleaning feature and the water refiling aspect. Even the standard model is great for everyday cleaning.
Wow, what a balanced review! It so useful to hear the pros and cons of each model rather than just get the hard sell on the top of the range product. Thank you!
I would go for the Pro Ultra!!! the silent mopping really seems good so you can let it mop when everyone is sleeping and the floors will be dry in the morning!
Thank you so much for explaining the difference on each, I decided on the S8 pro ultra since I have more of the hardwood floors to clean and have dogs.
I just purchased the Dreame L10S Ultra but my list came down to just two - the other being the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra! :D But since the performance of the two was very close I went with the cheaper option. much of my decision making was facilitated by your great reviews! Thanks and wish me luck! ;)
@@RobomateTV OMG I love it! It's like having another person around to help you do the vacuuming and mopping! I have been cleaning everywhere! :D There are a few things that could be improved but minor things only. Like, they could put a sensor (?) in the base station so the robot doesn't have to perform location dances before returning to base. When I put the robot down in front of the base station I would expect it to locate it immediately but that never happens. The robot also, for some strange reason, in our kitchen, doesn't clean in 1, and only 1 corner of the kitchen (about a 20 by 30 cm square) and there is no easy way to ADD space to the map (that I know). The software is really good but I would like it to be a little more granular/precise so that I can clearly see walls etc., for more precise editing. Adding a no-go zone around our cats' eating area has been a little tricky. Also, we have some hight differences and threshold transitions between a couple of rooms that are challenging for the robot so a better front wheel (?) might help in those situations - it would be great if the software could recognise that and adjust to it so it doesn't then continue to stumble over that area when it's cleaning. All-in-all, a great product that has exceeded my expectations! Thanks again for the great analysis on your channel! :D
Thank you for a great video. I have been considering for some time now upgrading my Roborock and your video really helped. It was concise to the point and very informative.
Would definitely want auto emptying. And better obstacle avoidance. At this point I empty our vacuum after every single run and I have to clear the floor of clothes, toys or bathroom mat to stop it from getting stuck. Which kind of defeats the purpose, since the actual vacuuming has just been replaced by a lot of prep work. I cannot imagine having the Ultra station, it just seems too good to be true.
Yep, it the object avoidance is really helpful. Still not perfect but getting better all the time. The Ultra stations are awesome although still pretty pricey.
We have had a few different robots in our house, mostly roborock. And our s8 pro ultra is buy far the absolute best. We have 2 kids, 2 cats, one dog. And we love our s8 ultra. Worth every penny.
This is so cool I can’t wait to get one of these robots. The video clearly shows the pros and cons of each vacuum and I love it! I definitely will be using this to help find my perfect robot vaccum
This video was really helpful in helping me decide which model is most suitable for my house. It is the S8 Pro Ultra as I have a lot of black marble polished concrete to keep looking smart and the carpets a not long or super thick.
Hi, thank you for a very good review! Will the mop wet the rugs or do the robots lift them up high enough not to do this? I would presume that there will be miscoloring from a dirty mop after a while if not. Thanks.
Thanks for such a great review. I have not yet tried a robot vacuum but these videos are really helpful for me to see all of the features and decide if they would be suitable for our family.
I should have gone with Roborock, i made the huge mistake getting an Ecovac's which forgets its map, forgets room labels doesn't recognise daylight savings and looses schedules with every software update. This has made me determined to change ecosystems as soon as I can afford it. cheers from New Zealand
Aw, which model do you have? Check out our base location video on this channel - it might help, almost all errors with mapping on Ecovacs are related to this.
@@RobomateTV Sadly I done everything recommended three times, even tried deleting account and signing back with different email, in case they are doing it deliberately because I am constantly complaining. besides the thing has a fatal design flaw, the intake hole to the onboard bin is wide and catches big things but the outlets to the dock are two small squares both too small to let the captured large items escape and they are also symettrical meaning the vacuum fights for a dust bunny on both exits leaving the dust ball trapped and remaining in the middle of the onboard bin. Finally someone reviewing the Plus version! I think you're literally the first in depth reviewer of the S8+. I've been searching months for a video like this. Thank you so much for the effort! I'm now actually thinking about buying the S7+ as repairability and the bagless option are something I like. I have been waiting for the S8+ due to the dual roller (thank you expired patent). But I'm now not so sure if that outweighs the other cons. 🤔
It's very similar to the Pro Ultra, which I guess is why no one has done a review. I may do a 5 min dedicated S8+ review video at some stage too to help people out!
Every time I think I’ve made a decision about which vac to purchase, a new video comes out that has me second guessing myself! Love these comparison videos, thank you!
Funny how people strongly want one option while others strongly don't want that same option! I would choose the S8 because I want to empty the dust bin after each cleaning! I have pets, and just in case there are fleas, I want to make sure any fleas or eggs that have been scooped up are out of the house before they escape/hatch! Also, I use the dust bin cleaning as an opportunity to make sure the filter stays cleaned out and check that there is no build up in the wheels or rollers. Not having the ability to remove the water container would be a dealbreaker for me too. I would love it if my Roborock mop feature ran with my wood panels instead of opposite them. It would make for a better looking cleaning!
Wow, this video was incredibly informative and well-executed! I've been considering getting a new robot vacuum, and this comparison of the Roborock S8 models really helped me make up my mind. The detailed testing and side-by-side demonstrations showcased the strengths and unique features of each model, allowing me to see which one would best suit my needs. The S8 series seems to have taken robot vacuums to a whole new level with their advanced navigation, powerful suction, and smart mapping capabilities. Kudos to the creator for providing such valuable insights, making my decision-making process much easier. Keep up the great work
I just bought a S7 Max V Ultra. It's been great so far. I went with the S7 because just about all the reviews say that its better at both suction and mopping than the S8 model. It also had the dryer bundled in.
It depends on what you're comparing. The S7 MaxV suction opening is smaller which means the delivered pressure is slightly higher, making it better at "denser" things like sand etc, whereas I believe the dual roller is better for dust and hair.
This video was really helpful, I didn't realize the robots were different between them, I thought it was only the dock! I would probably go for the one with the ultra dock, I'm mainly interested for the mopping!
Great video! This is a great comparison. I live in a place with two levels, and I think the most ideal solution (eventually) would be to have a S8+ upstairs and the S8 Pro Ultra downstairs. This is great to know. Thank you.
Thanks for the comparison! Even though Ultra is more expensive it is definitely worth the money as it becomes almost effortless to keep your house clean.
Thanks for the information on the differences between the models! Obviously, the Pro Ultra model delivers a true automation experience ("set it and forget it") and lowers the effort you put into the whole house cleaning process. The ability of the dock to take care of the wet mopping function (cleaning the pad, drying it, and refilling the tank) definitely eliminates those servicing tasks that I don't like about my current mopping robot (Braava). However, a major point for me that leads me to prefer the S8 over the models with docks is the issue of dock size. I would prefer the robot to be more compact and out of sight when it is off. Without the dock, the robot with its charging station can be neatly fitted under a cabinet.
@@blackpaw29 I've seen a few of these sorts of ideas. Looks pretty easy to do too... I recommend testing it before you go cutting up your cabinetry though.
Looks like it is finally the time to upgrade my iRobot Roomba 980. In the past I always found iRobots to be superior to anything else simply because of the experience the company had accumulated. But Roborocks look so much better than modern Roombas.
Great run down on the naming convention, made much more sense laid out like that. I'm a huge fan of hands off operation and have become a convert to the mopping (used to think it was a gimmick), so I guess I'd have to go for the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra. Not a fan of the fixed tank/mop, but the autoclean/dry dock is a must have. Having to flip the robot to change the pads looks to be a PITA though. I believe there is a plumbing addon for the Ultra that autofills and empties the clean/dirty water tanks, which sounds really cool but I have no idea where I would fit that in my house :) Re the mopping change of heart - I recently got a Dreame Z10 Pro (awesome vacuum), it just has a little onboard tank with an electric pump which I initially dismissed. Tried it out and was surprised by the shine it added to the floors - run it once a week now on deep moppingx2 (does a criss-cross). Not going to get deep stains off, but it gets the dust and sparkle done nicely. My ultimate preference would be the Dreame L10S Ultra - auto cleaning fluid adding to the water and the dock seems better to me, better cleaning of the rotating mops and the docking station mop tray is easier to clean.
Just fyi - you don't need to flip the robot to get the mopping pads off. You can just slide it out. Pedantic point. L10S Ultra is a pretty nice unit too.
nice video thinking of getting the dream l10 pro because I don't have the budget to get the roborock s8+ but great video. thank you for another great video.
I’ve had 3 IRobots and I’m thinking of coming to Roborock due to glowing reviews from our friends. Would love to have one to see how much better they are
Got myself the S8 pro ultra because of your previous video. If I win the giveaway I will give it to my parents. They think that a normal vacuum cleaner is better, but I'm going to prove them wrong 😁
Penny just hadn’t dropped about the naming, thank you I’ve got an S7 Max Ultra downstairs which is all hard floors, it does a fantastic job. Currently saving up to get one upstairs - which is a mix of laminate, ceramic wood effect and carpets. Still flip-flopping around on which to get.
