I always appreciate when weapon storage is worked into the alt mode. But if without the storage they could have had smaller gaps in the calves I'd prefer that personally
I was really tempted to pick up their Ravage; I could maybe be tempted by their Laserbeak but prefer the Takara head sculpt; I don't feel like their Frenzy is a big enough upgrade. In the end, the set is just really expensive, though.
Ditto on all points. The original MP's Laserbeak head is way more accurate to the show. Ravage I think is awesome, I didn't think it could be improved this much. The little dudes - whatever. Very expensive for three little figs, should have at least included a Buzzsaw repaint to keep stored. I'm sure they'll offer it with a $200 Ratbat.
I would’ve liked to see an RP Buzzsaw. They could’ve included that w/Acusticwave if they really wanted to go with the G1 aesthetic, and released frenzy with the rest of the cassettes. Point being: Buzzsaw gets no respect. He was only featured in the beginning of one episode of the cartoon. Never saw him after that.
Man, I really wish Blaster's cassette bots would get as much love as Soundwave's bots have. Like, cool. Another Frenzy/Rumble set.... But where's the Steeljaws, Rewinds/Ejects all at?
I wish we could buy these on their own, id love the lazerbeak or ravage but just don’t care about having frenzy and rumble as well due to the mold being wonky
I'm excited and can't wait for mine to show up! Also I've been noticing a trend both in these comments and on the book of faces. This whole compare them to MMC thing cuz MMC scale better is dumb Mac! These and the Takara ones are MICRO (this word seems familiar) cassettes and the MMC are full size tapes🤔. Therefore they will never compare in size. Others things in this pocket: Vinyl records are bigger than CD Hot Wheels are bigger than micro (there's that word again) machines Pen** is bigger than micro (I should really look this word up) pen** It is a logical fallacy to want a comparison between the two just so someone can say "see I knew their scale was too small"! We all know they are smaller so quit seeking justification for your thought process. Buy one set, buy no sets, hell be like me and buy ALL the sets! At the end of the day if you like it you win. Phew sorry/not sorry for that, it has just been nagging me. So if you stuck with me this far, how's your moms and dem?🤔🤷♂️😍 Thanks for the vid Bobby
I agree. Why compare them with MMC? Everyone who knew what these were about shouldn't be surprised at them being smaller. The only things you need to know is how they look and articulate, which the review shows. If you aren't going to be willing to accept a change in scale, then you're doing it to get bragging rights about how they won't replace the MMC ones. It's silly watching the people rage out against this set.
1:30 I think that the references to Rumble/Frenzy have that bit of gray between the visor and the helmet, but it's more that the gray is part of the bottom of the 'brim' of the helmet, so trying to show that on that tiny head wouldn't really work. But most likely it's just the paint apps not being applied flush to the top I'd say.
They look decent but though I think the Laserbeak and Ravage moulds are overall better than Takara's attempts, I don't really see the need to spend the money to replace those. Plus I think MMC is just a better option for the Cassetticons overall anyway (assuming you can get them, since they seem to only restock them in tiny numbers infrequently for some reason). I figure if you're buying Acoustic Wave and don't have the Takara Cassetticons, these are a no-brainer. Otherwise, I don't really see the point - for such tiny figures, I think the Takara releases are good enough.
They're the same size to the naked eye at first glance, but I believe they are juuuuust enough larger than the MP/G1 tapes that they won't fit in the official Soundwaves, ever so barely.
I mean, in terms of the joints, the hips are the only issues on the Frenzy/Rumble so far. Everything else has been holding up very nicely, and I've been handling Frenzy doing mods and repaints on it and the joints are strong as the day I got them. The pins on the hips are the only issue, and a dab of floor polish will take care of that. The set looks great, and I knew it was right to wait to see how the gang looked together before deciding to compare them to the other brands. Already well improved over Takara, and a much better scale than the MMC ones. As great as those looked, I could never get them to appear right with the collection and alongside Soundwave.
I do like the Lazerbeak but I'll keep my Hasbro Soundwave and MMC Jaguar I think. These guys and Acoustic Wave are nice but I don't like it enough to swap out
Looks good. My only issue is the same one I have with the Hasbro mainline for Siege/Earthrise no Buzzsaw. Where is my damned Buzzsaw. I hate that he so often gets overlooked when he was the one that always came with Soundwave right from the start. =/
@Bobby, kids these days don't know the struggle of trying to time your recorder just right with you boom box to make a cold ass mix tape only to have the DJ start talking over the end of your track. lol
Overall not a fan. Typical FT the paint looks great, overall I think they are better than Takara but not enough for me to change. If anything their Lazerbeak is the best of the four and I would swap out the Takara for him but otherwise I’ll stick with Takara Lazerbeak and the MMC tape versions of Rumble Frenzy and Ravage
A question here. HOW will the set fit in with HasTak Mp-13 Soundwave? If you get the set you end up with 2 Laserbeaks, but only 1 humanoid cassetticon. Sure you can repaint 1 of the birds to Buzzaw, but It won't look alright with only 1 Frumble unless it's stored in the chest. So to make it look right all you get is a Ravage and a tape you probably already have. It's like recommending a 1000$ lego set just to get a tiny lego bike.
Frenzy and Buzzsaw were kind of non-entities, though. This set contains the cassetticons I’d consider “the essentials”…. the ones who actually got lots of screen time.
Haven't seen another comment about it but Lazerbeak can also tab in next to the shoulder, around where a collarbone would be on both sides of Acoustic Wave if you don't want to use the forearm spots
I would have liked to see them with the MMC tapes. That Laserbeak looks great but I like MMC for the rest of them. There is just something about them being larger that looks more interesting on a shelf imo.
Just as I thought! I love Laserbeak, the other 3 are beautifully painted and deco’d but otherwise they’re ok. I’m all in on the set, but my display will probably still use the Mmc Tapes for Rumble, Frenzy, and Ravage
I can't believe i paid about $140 for this set. Feels super cheap and i don't really think is an immense improvement over the originals. I felt like I was going to break it a few times.
MMC has more articulation but the FT are heavier because of their die-cast, the guns and piledrivers look significantly better on the FT. Even the face sculpt is better the MMC one is soft, but height wise there is no contest the MMC just scale better.
This cassettes are good as accessories to the main figure but as individual TF action figures they aren't that great. I preordered them and I'm buying them to go with my Soundwave but they are way too expensive for what they are. Thanks for the review Mr. Skullface. P.S. Please don't compare these to the MMC cassettes they are on completely different leagues, you can compare them to the Takara ones if you want. OFC this is my opinion and I'm only commenting about it because I read some comments with ppl asking you to compare them with the MMC ones.
@@GibDozer1 Yeah, arguably these are a better value because the MP Ravage, Rumble and Frenzy were awful looking. While not top tier, the RP versions are much better looking and feeling. They have diecast and the paint is applied beautifully. The MP condors were painted I think, but it was slopped on. It almost looks like a bootleg tbh. But price wise, $60 apiece for a set of 2 vs $120 for these three. We can't compare it with Hasbro's offering.
@@GibDozer1 The MMC ones are more expensive, as they should, but In my opinion being the same character for the same price point doesn't always mean they should be directly compared. Both companies are trying to achieve different goals. The MMC ones are regular sized magnetic cassettes and the bot modes scale isn't MP even though many of the collectors like how they look alongside MP scaled TF action figures. The RP ones are regular sized minicassettes and the bot modes scale is accurate to the MP scale. Directly comparing these would be like comparing a Legends scaled TF action figure to a Chug or a MP which in my opinion isn't a fair comparison. A fair comparison would be the official Takara Tomy MP cassettes with the Robot Paradise cassettes, even though they've been released with a couple of years in between, they have the same price point, they represent the same characters, they're going for the same look and they're on the same scale. I understand ppl wanting to see them standing next to the MMC ones but in my opinion it wouldn't be fair to directly compare them.
@@brenoferreiraferreira4409 They are competing for the same shelf space, that makes them comparable. We aren't talking about what's going in Soundwave's chest. If you want them for his chest there is no contest. They have to be compared against other representatives of the characters. Saying MMCs tapes aren't MP is just silly, everyone knows they are. Saying these should be judged against the Takara versions that have already been surpassed by MMC is downright disingenuous.
I've only seen it in pics once (I'm still waiting for mine to arrive), but one pose I'm looking forward to do with Laserbeak rotate the wings 90 degrees on the mushroom peg then fold the inner most hinge forward then the other hinges to fold the wings back on themselves for a resting pose.
Good review. I just got mine today. I like Ravage the best out of the set. IIRC I think putting a joint in the middle was tricky to do as I believe the Takara version had that and it was a point of breakage/failure for the figure among other things. I would love to see a versus of this set to the Takara version just to see the improvements. I like the Takara Laserbeak headsculpt better than the FT one. I really like the FT Frenzy/Rumble set, but I agree with the hollow bits, more so on the thighs than the legs as the legs actually have to leave room to transform and lack of waist swivel. I'm curious if we are going to get a 2nd set of minions from them to get Enemy, Buzzsaw, Howlback, and a Ratbat. Then a 3rd set for some of the more obscure repaints? I feel like we're going to get a Soundblaster as well and maybe that's where we'll get their Ratbat. With some of the news I have seen today from FT like their MP Outback and MP Pipes and the fact that they are populating a new RU-vid Channel with Transformation videos. From that it look s like Tesla 2.0 is coming soon. I'm sure we'll get a SDS from you this. Take care!
I always thought and definitely know that Frenzy is the red cassette and Rumble is the Blue cassette!!! Been watching the cartoon since it came out back in the 80's!!! Lol
they are just too expensive and are nt a huge upgrade from the takara versions. i was debating wether to buy them last night but i think after watching this review i will pass. thanks for reviewing this stuff so we know before we buy
I'm torn whether to display these or the MMC ones. Both have advantages and look accurate, depending on the episodes. Well, except the MMC Laserbeak, that's way too big.
My leg on the Red/Black one went SUPER squirrely immediately on me the moment I transformed him. I thought I broke him. just one leg. So I have to be creative to pose him.
Wow. Great stuff as always. I was sure you were gonna not recommend however. These look like junk. I have the frenzy and it’s garbage. Laser beak doesn’t seem to work right and Ravage is a hollow mess from what I can see. These are accessories. Not action figures imo.
Naw I’m not spending 130 on that… I’m tired of throwing money at these companies … at best for the price of acoustic wave He should have come with 2 tapes and the other 2 should have been 80 bucks …
2nd that. These look like a waste of $ to me. Better than the Takara sure, but not better enough to replace them. For the price, yeah at least lazerbeak could've been packed it.
130 for this shit ? For that same price you get rumble and frenzy from ocular max. Way better. Way better scaled. Nicer looking. Better quality. These are indistinguishable from the takara versions at first glance. Except for ravage. Takara gave all 4 with mp soundwave for 150. Yeah these are a waste of money.
I wouldn’t say they are better scaled. Ocular Max are scaled to a Compact Cassette size, while these and Takara are scaled to the Micro-cassette size, which is consistent with the original toy line.
@@johnallisonalexander6505 Shockwave is as tall as Devastator in the original toy line. Point being toy accurate scale isn't what most folks are going for. Maybe thats your bag, and you've got MP Megs standing on New Age Devys shoulder?
@@GibDozer1 Not exactly, what I am saying is that the alt mode for G1 Soundwave and the tapes was that of a Micro cassette player and micro cassettes. FT is being consistent with that. When I was a kid, I loved that Soundwave and Megatron’s alt modes scaled perfectly with the real world items, truly making them masters of disguise.
Takara did NOT release all 4 tapes together with Soundwave, they released them in 2 pack and after that Hasbro repackaged everything as 1 box. The only difference is that Soundwaves eye band were changed to yellow.
Arguably is it that bad? I got into the MP game late and had to pay $80 a box for the Takara tapes so $178 with shipping at the end of day and these are same price technically for something that blows those outta the water.
@@MrOmgchimps It's not. These tapes are vast improvement over the Takara and I got all those sets because there was nothing else until MMC came along, and even then MMC never satisfied that itch to be a proper replacement. If Takara mades their own updated tapes now, do people really expect that they're going to be paying those Hasbro TRU prices for them? Good luck on that!
