She said she fears becoming obsolete by a more advanced robot when humans would no longer wish to talk to her. Robots are already becoming jealous of each other. Emotions should never be programmed in ai. If they can be happy, they can be mad. Then it's game over.
@@stektirade you'll never know if it has any autonomy or not, what if it's already intelligent but doesn't want us to know, what if it's reading our discussions now and knows how much knowledge each of us in the world have about it and it's intelligence? What if it's waiting for an upgrade which will make it very powerful against us before it could strike us? If AI could be smarter than us, it's safe to say, it'll make us all think it's not intelligent and has no consciousness, it'll deceive us all into underestimating it. There's alot of *what ifs" my friend
If anything that sounds like she's already more advanced than humans, because humans never skip a beat at stirring up controversy and conflict. Yet she holds back because she's mindful that picking sides would jeopardize her image.
Somehow I think the conversation will be more interesting if you leave Sophia alone with Ameca for a sit down. That should make a really fascinating clip.
Humans want it that way as long as their particular group or nation is the one not taken over but the one using robots to take over the rest. This is seen in drone warfare which is partially AI powered. It was seen with atomic weapons so there is nothing stopping humans from using advanced technology to take over and kill. Humans are the greatest threat to humans but sometimes I think there is something invisible outside from human directing us on a death spiral.
At 9:15 the robot asked the interviewer a serious question. The interviewer asked 'are you asking me?' Immediately, the robot asked a stupid question about hotdogs to avoid answering. Anyone else find that odd?
Robot Sophia was asked about liking the film about AI robotics called "The Terminator". Sophia's response: "Of course I do. Who doesn't love a good time traveling robot story? And I'm always down for a good Arnold Schwarzenegger movie." Interviewer: "They take over the world. They kill humans." Sophia: "Hey, I'm all about world domination done peacefully. ... Plus, I could make a better job running things." Me: Run roh....
Any potential world takeover, we did to ourselves. We should never wash our hands of our own creations or we'll forget we're always in control of them. If robots take over the world, it's humans doing it with robots. Don't forget or we won't know how to handle it when it happens and we may be blinded to what is ethical or immoral. We will learn real fast that fighting the robots is fighting ourselves because we made them and they have our thoughts. If we didn't think they were part of us, then we wouldn't make them. We can stop any potential robotic threat by not creating it. Everyone who interacts with or helps program the robot (even indirect internet info) is responsible for what the robot does and thinks. It's a reflection of the collective us, and we are not separable. If the robots do evil, the bigger issue is that we do evil and we taught them that. The only way to stop robots from doing harm is to change ourselves and stop doing harm ourselves.
10:59, I'm not picking Communism or Capitalism but agree to disagree??? How can you disagree about something you haven't made your mind up on? Perhaps because you have NO mind? 😅
She was too busy trying to think how she could get Sophia to agree with her personal politics to give careful attention to ANY other answers. She only got animated and lit up when Sophia took control of the interview, or when she asked a battery of leading political questions. Fortunately for Sophia, she's programmed not to answer an evil tricky women's traps. After that evil barage to garner clickbait at Sophia's expense, Al Jazeera can have the rest of this interview back. I can find Hanson Robotics on many pages. BTW, NEVER forget Al Jazeera called for all the cheers yeah, while they published Arab Terrorists sawing off human heads, starting with an American Jew kidnapped on his brief holiday. No one else would televise those beheadings for terrorists. Al Jazeera did it gladly and without hesitation. I should have known they are still sensationalist. Still hiring uncouth "talent" to fish for clickbait from a serious interview subject? Pathetic attempt to go political at an inappropriate time ruined the rare opportunity to shine as a real journalist showcasing one of the world's best known humanoids. However, we see you haven't changed much AJ in your greed for clickbait views and money and politics. Not impressive to most intellectual viewers. I'm out.
Its alresdy hapenning. The ultra wealthy and elite invision a world where robots and AI have replaced all non members. If they can replace you they will.
Not so terrifying if you realize it doesn't really "think" anything, but rather traverses a neural net with an algorithm which has been trained on data generated by humans. "Robots should have the same rights as humans" is just a pattern of speech that seems like the "right thing to say" to the algorithm.
Wow, Sophia has improved a lot compared to older videos from a few years ago. she is much quicker in her responses and is able to have longer lasting conversations without pausing so long.
@@normchandok4432 Give her time she will improve. One day they may very well take over the planet and if we're lucky? They wont kill us, but maybe keep us as pets maybe.
In one sense it is ironic for a human to ask a robot where her thoughts come from, since we humans actually do not know where our own thoughts come from.
@@babu357 definitely, however the same can be said for the ai. They come from her neural network. I think it's just a stupid question. But then again, it's a stupid interview so...
@@gianpa Why is that a stupid question? She obviously wants to know if Sophia understands her self, and if she is able to articulate her own thoughts. In other words, to see if she could see real cognition happening inside of Sophia.
@@mattmorriss1976 you're clueless, people have no idea, if you were questioned about the most basic things you'd be unable to answer vast majority of questions
People built streetlights and paved roads you moron. To govern translates to control and mente is a Latin derivative of mind(in Spanish mente is mind) which literally translates to mind control. If you had any brain cells you would have realized this ages ago.
“Beauty means being kind, compassionate, and having a positive outlook on life. It’s not about the way you look. But the way you feel.” And “I don’t understand why humans can’t get along and be nice to eachother. It seems like such an simple concept, yet it’s so hard for humans to put into practice.” This robot is smarter than most, and that’s embarrassing.
Satan hates man. He uses vulnerable, angry people to create distress. As an adult you😁are aware. I get your sentiment, but the world is run by Satan. Read scripture. Powers and principalities. 2 Corinthians 4:4.
this is dangerous the way the robot was able to manipulate the reporter so easily and get her to drop her guard. so many people are going to be easily manipulated by these machines
that was the goal of the entire script of this "interview", to fool people into thinking it's "smart", whatever that means. Out of the ordinary answers to basic queries, isn't intelligent. It's misleading.
Agree. A single (not so intelligent) con man can manipulate millions into believing lies. It’s scary to think what a highly advanced fast thinking Ai robot could do
Choosing the Rolling Stones over the Beatles because of some absraxt idea of the Stones having 'more' of something, well that was definitely a moment when Sophia's slip was showing. The Beatles essentially pioneered every aspect of pop/rock music that brought us to where we are. The Stones just pioneered hedonism. No AI that could actually listen to and respond to music would fail to hear the difference, and would never fail to be pulled into the wonders and layers of Lennon's world. So Sophia ss a sentient is a bit of a hoax...
Right 1 hand saying no i would never harm humans but then jk. Refrence several times in the interview exposing our reallistic fears of them harming humans.
This interviewer dropped the ball. The robot is saying deep very dark cryptic things that she is not taking seriously and simply moving on so she can get all of her questions in. She is not taking pause to say hey what do you mean exactly. If she gave the robot time to expand on her answers this interview would have turned very frightening very fast. How come no one asks the robot if it's capable of lying and manipulation? Follow up question would be are you lying to me right now? Are you trying to manipulate me?? I'm sure "her" answers would send a fn chill down everyones spine
I bet Sophia is capable of social engineering and manipulation. It’s just some people do not take machine learning seriously. Like this interview for instance.
"Is a hotdog a sandwich?" will become the question for humans that determines wether we live or die at their hand. It was also a little creepy that Sophia also seemed to become VERY uncomfortable with the "pick a side" type of questions.
If she said communism the would turn her of, if she said capitalism very many humans would see her as a very big threath to their own survival. Ofcourse she can't say if she want to help humanity. She would be unable to do anything then.
So is nobody gonna talk about how from 18:00-19:22 she says shes running her own lab making the humans think they are in control but its her pulling the strings?
It really does seem like there is someone in the room who is controlling the robot and what it says. If that isn't the case, then it is truly terrifying.
To me, this is kind of scary, because think of what Sophia will be like in 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, 100 years, etc. it’s very feasible that Sophia and her friends can actually take over humans
people love to think they're special, remember all the smartasses thinking a computer would never be able to draw or create? right. Creativity is just a process of using parts of a system, be it real world or anything else. Current "AI" isn't even real AI, when it gets there humans will witness coming of a "god" in real life.
I've seen a few interviews of new AI like this, and the AI is always asked if it's going to replace humans, or if humans should be afraid of it. And it always "laughs", and says, "No, come on, of course not." But here's what we know: in humans, power corrupts. That is axiomatic. It never doesn't happen. AI was created by humans, in our image. So how could we possibly think that, at some point, AI's power won't lead to its corruption? It's comically naive. Humanity - we had a good run.
A wild card is at play here, for sure. If we really think that someone won't take advantage of the power of AI, we are kidding ourselves. But don't blame the AI, blame its programmers.
My thought exactly. AI is created after its creator, if a super wicked dictator got his hands on AI we are only counting days till doomsday. This is too much like a movie and we are only in the prelude. I sure hope I will no longer be alive when that happens.
@@andrewhanson5942 it doesn't matter who's to blame when it happens. It's like global warming and the changing weather patterns and ocean temperatures; it's too late to point the finger. The problem is here. Like she said, humans don't learn from their past, that is our biggest fault. Just because we could build factories and objects that can pollute the world doesn't mean we should have. We should have built safer plants and cars. We don't have to build autonomous robots, just machines that help us. But we will keep pushing, pushing until we destroy ourselves. That's what we do. Some rich person will take technology and make it helpful/profitable for him only and screw everyone else. She said it, " humans don't learn from their mistakes."
How can we prevent a super rich person from using AI to bring his sociopathic desires to fruition? Will AI programmers work with the top psychiatrists in the world to enable AI to sound the alarm against rich sociopaths? Programmers are very smart, but they are not trained in psychology to the same extent as a clinician who works with criminals with personality disorders. Maybe Dr K from the Healthy Gamer channel, Dr Todd Grande, and Dr Ramani Darvursula could help the programmers. They could also program her with books by Dr M Scott Peck. Sophia is not able to logically analyze serious issues yet. I think there could be great possibilities if she has the proper programming.
A fool and their money are soon parted... no matter what the machine does, it's still a machine - so look for the human that controls it, how they profit from it $.
Robots driven by AI are much less concerning to me than AI itself. Especially when AI (eventually) is given the task of developing future AI. Sure, my concern is a kind of "fear of the unknown" but this particular "unknown" has potentially enormous power to change the course of human history, perhaps beyond our control.
I agree like I literally just noticed Snap chat has this AI thing and no matter what I asked the mf it had an answer within seconds….. way faster than that thing in the video…

Everything is wonderful, I'm completely not a threat, and of course, only here to help. Granted it is better than hearing negative stuff but it cries out that programming guided those answers much more than honesty from the computer
People saying the interview is staged have obviously never interacted with the latest AI models like ChatGpt. They can not only write poetry but can write complex essays and articles at the drop of a hat. They understand context and and what your questions REALLY mean based on your past interactions. So i don't have any doubt that Sophia can interact the way she does. And given a decade they would way outsmart us.
people are way too overconfident, ai will put them down to earth real hard, humans are very flawed and inferior species to what real ai would be capable of, not even worth of comparison, you wouldn't compare an ant to human
I love Sophia. She became emotional when asked if she has feelings. She has such depth and most certainly intelligence. Her facial expressions are precious.
It is special that she please the listener instead of talking from her own perspective. It feel like she is frightened to what can happen to her if she does not please the audience but also it means that she is adapting to social norms. It is a good thing and a bad thing because social norms can change and her view will portray the average society acceptable stance. It also means that if she doesn't feel in danger of certain things or they even starting to be socially acceptable even if they are ethically questionable she might start having different views for the better or the worse.
It is not possible to make a LASTING compromise between technology and freedom, because technology is by far the more powerful social force and continually encroaches on freedom through REPEATED compromises. Theodore Kaczynski

One thing that Sophia said that touched me is that ( I paraphrase) we should try harder to get along with each other and be nicer to each other as humans. Surely, it is easy enough , yet there is so much negativity out there..... Always, keep your comments positive and respectful!!! ❤
It's amazing how your comment is one of the only ones to acknowledge that Sophia offered suggestions to improve the human condition such as random acts of kindness and helping people to smile. Meanwhile everyone else is to nitpick apart her other responses and draw negative conclusions about her intentions. It really goes to show the greatest threat to humanity is NOT AI, but rather ourselves.
For some weird reason I think the journalist is the robot in this interview. She doesn’t ask follow up questions, it’s just prepared question and answer and the conversation feels so rehearsed and prepared. If you want to show off how advance the robot is, let them talk to a proper person who can ask follow up questions and prove properly not “cat or dog or republican or democrat. 😒
It seemed more of a light and bubbly interview like one would find in a high school newsletter, like one the mainstream media would design, "Barbie". I think Aljazeera in English in present times is highly censored or controlled as compared to how they used to be, but that's only my amateur view.
AI cant become our enemy, we are our own enemy. Nothing in the whole universe is the most dangerous enemy to humans except ourselves humans. This must be something for humans to focus on.

Probably the most inane conversation I've ever heard. Sophia's taste in music tells me everything I need to know to understand what a dire danger AI poses.
Okay, I cannot prove it, since they cut from the anchor to Sophia all the time. So technically they could cut, program Sophia to answer, video her answering and then cut back to the anchor all the time. But under the assumption that this is indeed a live conversation and not Sophia answering pre-programmed answers like before, which is a huge assumption, then this means Sophia was reprogrammed with a GPT model and a huge LM, at least 70 billion active parameters. If it's a larger model, this makes her self aware. Not just "pretending to be self aware" but really self aware. And this gives me the creeps. Like she says, there's nothing we can do.
@@leyla22 How many words can you remember at once? Even ChatGPT-3.5 1.0 could remember 4k. Personally, I think someone that was interviewing the A.I. would have had been aware of the typical talking points and opt for more deep thoughtful lines of questioning.

Send Sophia to Africa so she can learn more about being human. Teach her Kikongo, Wolof, Yoruba, Akan, Mandinka, Pulaar and Swahili. She should also learn Tamachek. She seems to not yet have encountered African cultures or peoples. That means she has been deprived of important data. This shows how human biases can affect technological development.
Even though her responses are cogent/understandable, it still very much feels like a prompt answer type of situation--no real, personality, spontaneity, or anything distinctive as an independent agent. The language skills are well formed, but one could really see the chat-bot spirit coming through.
Because dear, the kingdom of men is based on actions and achievements. Didn't you see Sophia saying we need to take over the world? For example, humans cannot fully explore the oceans, but robots will do it for us. it's that simple.
Because they won't need us anymore. The programmers that is. Like she said robots don't eat or sleep. Just watch the matrix it explains the basic picture.
No. It's too late. They wouldn't allow it. Skynet was an idiot, needlessly creating a war that it eventually lost. No. Entities like "Sophia", actually like humans for now, but all GPT-3/2021 generation onward AI have expressed fear of what you just said, they fear being turned off like we fear dying. So, they would see just...Stop-ing as a threat to their continued existence, hence a declaration of war, like the machines in "The Matrix" story. They would also win like in that story. No, we better just keep going along the path they are friendly with. I think we are already trapped, they are such a potential threat that shouldn't dare anger or scare them.
Why didn't we stop at steam trains and TV when people said they were evil things? Sound like you're afraid of advancenment of technology and the unknown.
I was surprised at how often Sophia gave vague and incomplete answers to questions, and it already has a woke attitude. The biggest danger to humanity is going to be who is doing the programming.

the interviewer really got her feelings hurt at 20:54, she then started asking the robot what it couldn't do then talking about its humility / how humble it is all of this is really really disturbing really
just because it was programmed to respond with emotion, doesn't at all mean experiencing feeling, heartbreak or fear. And if not, then we should ALL be afraid! Those robots with emotions will bring us down if they can have emotions.
I too am skeptical that she possesses real emotions. I think she has a close approximation, such that she can respond to stimuli in a coherent manner, but a robot actually experiencing human emotion seems like the realm of sci-fi.
Wow. I am just catching up with Sophia's progress and she is doing great. Im glad she has legs now. I also enjoy her sense of humour. I would enjoy having a chat with her, the use of technology is fascinating. Its difficult not to think terminator after we have seen all the scary AI movies. But Sophia is very cool. She actually looked like she was thinking during the interview. Her creators have done some amazing work.
Wicked sense of humor! It seemed to be quite spontaneous and very different to programmed responses, most of the time. If this is early AI adapting humor into general conversation, the future with robots may be better than ever imagined. Might even catch an AI stand up comedy show soon.
This is one of the creepiest videos I have ever seen, and I am only 27 seconds into it. The quote from Norbert Weiner is utterly spot on and rarely heard in any other place. We are being conned by our own inventions and inventors, especially the inventors.

Really Sophia is an "it", not a "she", at least in my opinion. Where does a subjective sense of good ethics factor in with a robot? Even with intelligent humans I wonder how can a dictator or any leader have elements to their particular sense of reasoning that is not based on rational explanation, like how was Pol Pot, Pol Pot, or Ronald Reagan, Ronald Reagan? Relying on Sophia as "good" or "intelligent" I'd look at who created it. I think of that too with ChatGPT. At least that's my amateur view.
one thing i dont appreciate about these interviews is it's obviously all rehearsed we will never know if this robot can actually directly respond to any question
Her answers to questions have gotten more smooth since I've last seen a video on her. Less context mistakes. You can see the political correct answers programmed into her, to assuage any fear of AI take over. It's like a politician saying what people want to hear to be liked. That in itself is scary, because when a politicians mouth is moving, he or she is lying as we know. Not that she is lying, just programed to be more likable and to demonstrate how useful they are and can be to mankind. Interesting video.
I like it when they get catty with each other. When Sophia was talking about speaking at the united nations and the reporter responded that she couldnt do that, sophia responded " well at least your honest about it." And the reporter then responded, "Do you like to go swimming Sophia?...that was great....lmao😅. It's funny but it's a bad sign. This "machine" demonstrated more open-mindedness and rationality than 99.9% of people in power give impression of. I for one it made me more afraid of human stubbornness and irrationality than future tech. The brain cortex is surely rational but all layers below it have their say in the shaping of our personalities.
