Hmmm.... Desert Ground type Gundam: The "Desert white" parts looks like faded/yellowing of the regular ground gundam armour, especially because I live in a region of high humidity and over abundance of sunlight.
I decided to go all-in on 08th MS Team Robot Spirits, so I was happy to pick this set up. Even if I plan to give the net gun, beam rifle, and machine gun effect to my "standard" Ground Gundams, as a one-off figure that can be displayed on its own elsewhere on my desk, it's a fun piece.
My only issue with the figure is you don't get all the accessories from the previous release like the heavy cannon and the backpack. That's something that has really annoyed me with the 8th line is that only one version comes with the backpack.....
Seems boring for a pbandai release. The net gun, shield connector, and the machine gun effect are some nice accessories but it doesnt seem worth buying over the regular ground gundam. Especially now as its like $100 on Ebay due to it being pbandai
@@UCRDReviews Idk if it'd be better as a regular release or not. Making a figure of it seems kinda odd in general since the colors appeared in only one episode and arent the colors of the actual gundam. Although, it is nice to have the 08th ms team line cover everything even slightly important in the anime. That wasnt done with 0083 (I want a dra-c figure lol)
I agree with your assessment about the colors, but TBH this wouldn't be the first time the on-screen colors of one episode have influenced the colors of the figure, plus without the color distinction I can't see this version having the same degree of marketability.
I think the colors look well and it matches some of intro colors as well. It’s a much better “Sand” color than the GM Ground type units from the 07th team.
I'm a modeler, funnily enough I am at this very moment building a HG model of this Gundam that was recently released, but it's in the GTO FSD colors. Basically a black Ground Gundam. It looks super cool, I'm contemplating abandoning the E.F.F. orange decals and using Zeon waterslides, turning it into a captured Zeon unit since it's not canon anyway and it's a black Gundam with red eyes.
That one you mentioned actually looks better than the Ground Gundam Robot Spirit ver Anime regular release which is exactly the same as the one shown in here with different color and weapons. When I say better looking I mean the overall proportion. The Build Fighter version has a smaller and less chunky head compared to this which makes the overall appearance better. I got the regular release of Robot Spirit and was very disappointed by how awkward it looks but also how marginally 'better' it is to a much cheaper HG ground gundam kit. My less favorite Robot Spirit to date for sure.
Right on, speaking of things being a little better, the original it's based on was a revive model. I was watching a Gundamholic video on the one I'm building and apparently in the 4 years since it was issued, people complained about the arms not being strong over time where they plug into the chest. Well in the new kit they give you brand new runners for that area. Now the arms are super stiff, I don't anticipate any problems in the future. The old parts are still there but idk why anyone would use them. I have backups now is a good way of looking at it. I have just the Gundam built and it looks great, so on to the backpack and weapons. @@porkflaps4717 It is funny you mention this. When I first built the Build Fighter Version I used the old shoulder sockets(for clearly not paying enough attention to the menu) are also included in the kit and those just couldn't hold the weight of the arms let alone the weapons... I was pissed how poorly design a brand new gunpla having such issue lol. At the end I located the other pair of shoulder sockets and problem solved.
I keep rewatching this video because I’m on the fence if I want this or not? It’s get another Ground Gundam and make a Karen out of it or this. I like it, but not at PBandai prices! I’ll try to be patient and pick up a used one if that ever happens. Thanks for the good and honest review!
I was on the fence about placing the pre order on this one and I'm glad I didn't get it, it would have only served to replicate the scene where Shiro is working on the leg because of the sand (despite the sand filter) and has the suit laying down with it's legs stretched out (I believe the box shows this pose specifically), I don't like that the shield mount for the backpack is exclusive to this set though. All that being set, I'll have to buy this at a later time if they release the Apsalus, I'll want to recreate the tackle scene.
This is a hard to find figure! Been looking for it locally for some time. I like the color and design touches. The net launcher is a little disappointing since there was no net included. I picked up the 07th RGM 79 and the 08th Option parts set 2 last weekend. I don't like the color on the RGM-79 but it comes with some nice accessories. The Option parts set 2 is a little disappointing due to what you get for the price. The hover truck feels rather cheap. I was expecting more moving parts. The best part of the set if probably the Dopp. It has a good color and various parts.
I couldn’t disagree with him more about the option parts set so I’m interested in how you like it. It was expensive but having a tiny little hover truck with ANY points of articulation and anime accurate accessories is just too cool and I’ve always wanted a model Dopp fighter on my desk and it’s great and fully effect and stand compatible. It was expensive but damn I just love it!
The beam rifle and machine gun look to have the same little peg and hole, so maybe the beam rifle can be broken down for storage but it ended up being glued together
@@UCRDReviews yeah that's what I was getting at. Potentially planned to be storable earlier on but ended up released glued together and without proper mounting parts
@@UCRDReviews We may be a bit off on our assumptions! I just saw images of GM Ground Type and there's an adapter for mounting the machine gun and beam rifle to the back skirt!
Ah we talked about the color thing when this figure was announced and you didn’t seem to think it was a big deal and it looks like you came over to my side once you saw it in person, lol. Yeah it’s my biggest gripe that it can’t stand next to the others looking identical aside from the dust covers and sand filters. I got it anyway but I actually have a twinge of regret considering how expensive it was and how it didn’t really come with anything extra so it’s just a figure that I kind of resent now. Being a collector is stupid sometimes.
