Additive Engineering Solutions (AES) builds very large 3D printed tools and parts using gantry-style additive manufacturing machines that are the size of small buildings. Recently, it began 3D printing large components using a robot instead. How does the robot compare to the gantry machine? How is it better for large-scale additive manufacturing and what are its limitations? Peter Zelinski visited AES's facility in Akron, Ohio, to see the robot in action and file this report comparing the different options for large-format 3D printing.
