With all the chaos Razer causes, I’d say they’ve an honorary house robot(I mean when the house robots leave you be most of the time, and you team up with them to get rid of defeated competitors)
This beautiful machine is my childhood hero. Seriously, when people ask what my favorite thing to watch as a kid was, I always tell them 'Razer from Robot Wars" and it will always be my favorite robot of all time, and the most powerful machine for its time. The only time it ever lost was when it beat itself - no one beats Razer but Razer.
Or the judges.... lol Tornado couldn't even beat Razer with the judges help of letting them use their anti-Razer cheat cage, or according to Jonathan Pearce, "an anti pit device - an A.P.D. we haven't seen one of these!" So after all that, the judges just handed them the decision. Stupid choice... stupid, stupid choice.
How old are you my friend? Razer was one of my childhood heroes aswl. I remember thinking the logo was so cool and used to practice writing it in my exercise books
@@maz7953 I'm 26 years old now, and it feels like a lifetime ago watching Razer eat other robots sitting on the floor of our old house playing Robot Wars with the robots I'd made out of Legos 😂
@@Frosty_tha_Snowmanit wasn’t a cheat cage. The frame was within the rules. Also, nothing wrong with robots trying to do things to counter the best machine. We saw that when everyone started putting self righters on when chaos 2 won, and then having thicker armour to counter hypno disc.
@tombardsley3081 you clearly don't know what happened.. the judges voted to not allow it, the producers overrode them - it was outside of the rulebooks, and tornado WELDED IT to their robot, so it couldn't be taken off, without making every fan there to watch wait for them to do that. Noel (the judge) ended up saying "well, we thought Razer would still beat them even with the cage, but it would give tornado a fighting chance - but once they couldn't fit in the pit, it became abundantly clear this wasn't a fair shake." They awarded it to tornado, because they wanted to make all the fans happy, not just Razers.. but all they did was piss off everybody except for the weird losers that worship tornado for being 2nd best. 😂
Razer was one badass machine. You could see it get better and better with each series to the point where it never lost. When you make an opponent put an anti-crusher screen on their robot, you know you have got a powerful machine. I remember watching Razer tear up opponents on TV.
I remember getting the VHS for this when I was 7 years old at a Robot Wars event in London 2006. Great times. Insane how much life and the world has changed since then. Everything seemed so much simpler.

Seeing this for the 1st time in 2024. Great design and reminiscent of the Cylon warriors of Battlestar Gallactica. Great work and all who built these intricate machines should be proud of their accomplishments and are now designing NASA vehicles?
No one gonna talk about how in the final vs Behemoth both Matilda and Dead Metal interfered outside the CPZ to Razer's advantage? The Behemoth team was absolutely robbed of that one.
I doubt if Razer can stand the new generation robots of the new Robot Wars series with the powerfull spinners. Razer is such a beautiful and powerful robot!
razer was such a mean bot 😂😂 the guys way of smiling while mathilda sgt bash got destroyed made it even more joyfull to see how good their bot really are. understandeble they won the design trophy so many times and all those titles as well. great job guys. lot of love from denmark❤❤
It’s cool seeing some of the designs for warhead in the background. I did wonder if robot wars was to return if they’d go to the drawing board for a new bot
It nearly happened twice! First is, obviously, the fact that both robots made it to the Grand Final episode of Series 5. The second was via an unused idea for Extreme 1 - The People's Challenge. Basically, give the viewing public a vote on which two robots should duke it out. Razer vs Hypno-Disc was the winning match-up, but both teams declined to participate, as because Ex1 was filmed parallel to S5 (hence also Atomic's withdrawal from its Annihilator bracket despite winning its Mayhem qualifier - because shortly after that filming, it was irreparably trashed by Hypno-Disc) and both teams had deep mainline tournament runs, neither team thought they could justify the damage done to potentially title-winning machines for the sake of one fight. I wonder how it would've shaken up if Hypno-Disc and Razer had fought for the Series 5 title? Personally, I think the former would've had the edge over the latter, but alas we can only speculate.
2nd best robot (in my opinion) to only Hypno Disc. Both did a lot of damage and very clever designs. I just preferred a spinning disc as opposed to the claw when I was a kid and have stuck with it since.
I reckon that Gemini fight was one of Gemini's best battles. Particularly after hearing about what happened in the edits left of that fight on the cutting-room floor.
They never explained what's going on with that wheel setup. At the back, they seem to roll sideways so that turning will pivot around only the front wheels, but with drive to all four. I've never seen that anywhere else, and I thought they'd be eager to show off the idea here. And those weird rollers on the front wheels, I can't even guess.
The rear wheels are like 90deg mecanum wheels. The wheel is made from several small rollers, they are driven and provide traction forward/reverse but if only one side is driven they roll sideways. This is why razor turns so fast.
Recently rediscovered robot wars and I’m hooked, but I definitely strongly dislike all the flipper bots, and all the extra bullshit ones that were clearly built by teens. Razor, carbide, and another spinner type are the ones I really enjoy
A question about the Uzi gun-like transmitter Ian Lewis uses to drive Razer. What exactly makes the robot adaptable for a controller set-up like that, compared to the standard dual joystick transmitter?
Simon scott uses a normal controller to drive razer . He can controll the arm via a lever on that same controller. Ian lewis uses the uzi controller with a wheel on it to controll the razer arm up and down . The team used diffrent controllers over the years One person to drive one person to control the arm gives better chance of control
I see, I always thought the controllers functioned vice-versa. For Simon, he'd operate the arm, plus the wings and regulating the amount of hydraulic pressure. For Ian, his controller has a trigger that can be pushed towards and away for forwards+reverse drive, and the little wheel provides the steering. The point I'm trying to make is how is it that Razer seems to be the only British robot linked up to an Uzi-controller, including a few Battlebots competitors?
I'd rather not. Although I was initially excited to see Razer return and disappointed to see it embarrassingly fall out of the competition in literally the first televised Robot Wars battle in over 12 years, in hindsight I don't think it should've returned, since it would've shown its age by no longer being able to pierce opponents like it used to. And against Carbide, even with the anti-spinner wedge, I reckon it would've been chopped apart and sent to be scrapped. Look at how Ian Lewis reacted to when his machine was damaged by Pussycat - how do you think he'd cope with what Carbide would do?
my second favourite robot my first being Chaos 2. Its a shame the Razor team were such bad losers. They would throw there toys out the pram everytime they took damage, yet when they was wrecking everyone elses robots that was fine.
There's a smaller class bot in nhrl that is seeing some success with this design. In my opinion way cooler than the spinning disks and drums that are so common.
It actually did compete n two of the BattleBots events, it won a rumble but didn't get very far in their tournament, it lost drive after several rounds in the Long beach event (I think) and lost in the first or second round of the Las Vegas event on a judges decision.
1:05:08 What the fuck the house robots literally saved Razor. If they didn't come in, it would have timed out for sure. I heard a lot of stuff back in the day, and rewatching this stuff shows just how biased the show was towards this robot in multiple cases.
Couldnt make the golden goose look bad could they. There was a lot of sneaky crap that went on and judges decisions that were utter rubbish, thats what put me off the show in the end
The officials weren't biased for Razer, at least not at the time you point out. Razer was freed from the angle grinder because angle grinders aren't supposed to trap robots in place. That's a rule. Any time robots were locked together longer than allowed or stuck on angle grinders or flame grilles, the House Robots - followed by Refbot taking over from Series 4 onward - always performed separations to see if the competitors were properly immobile or just stuck where they shouldn't be. It wasn't just done with Razer, like the biased, hypocritical haters of it like to claim. If angle grinders cause damage that immobilises a robot, that's one thing. But it still needs to be separated from it first to see if that's the case. But Razer kept going, so there.
I still think the arena could have been more "deadly" to the robots, and maybe increase the bouts to 4 minutes. I mean for instance the "angle grinder", which did fuck all but throw sparks...how about a Hypnodisc type of weapon imbedded in the wall? Make the arena hostile and skip the house bots, give the roboteers a chance to defeat each other by means of tactics.
The only robot that Razer never faced was the almighty hypnondisc and had they both fought man lets say severe damage to both robots a proper metalbath battle.
Hypnodisc would have beaten Razer in the grand final if that was the final match in series 5. Unlike other machines Razer fought, they were a quick machine so could have got Razer on the side where razers wheels were and given pussycat disabled this version of Razer with a couple of hits, hypno disc would do the same. Also damaged the claw given what big nipper was able to do in razer’s first match .
@@tombardsley3081 and given the size of hypno discs massive disc and how quick hypno disc was, that disc would have causes serious and severe damage to razer cause razer had reliability problems at that time so one blow could have conked razer out cold
I wonder why theres nobody try to make this kind of robot i mean (replicate ) copy 🤷♂️😁!! In this new series of robot wars🤔 Is it againts the rules of Robot Wars? Replicate someone's work?
Tiberius and Snakebite and to a lesser extent R.O.C.S were crushers that had a take on Razer. But the Snakebite crusher never worked the way it should have and Tiberius never were able to crush like Razer could and R.O.C.S was another take.
They didn't cheat as what they did was perfectly within the rules. However, given their history with Razer I would say it was not in the spirit of the competition.
Razer wouldn't have gone very far in Battlebots. As for one Razer can only pierce threw weakly armored bots which many in the US had much much better armor. 2nd Robot Wars had the dumb rule of hey you can grab a bot and hold onto them for the entire fight you don't ever have to let go. Where BB had a 30 second minimum rule.
@@andersonsteelrod8121 it's much more than 3 tons. It's 3 tons per square inch, that tip is much smaller than a square inch. The trouble is the pressure decreases a lot across the beak, so even if you can pierce the armour that doesn't mean you can destroy critical components
