ROBOTS Is More Relevant Than Ever 

"This video is about a kids' movie after all." and this is where you are wrong. Just because is animated does not mean is for children. I'd argue Robots is one of the most mature movies Blue Sky has ever produced

Loved that about early 2000s animation! Lots of 1950s retro-future. Meet the Robinsons, Monsters Inc., Jimmy Neutron, the Incredibles…I wonder why that was?

@@pdpUU I suspect that was just due to the generation who was aged 30-60 at the time (there was a ton of 60s nostalgia as well). Just like a lot of stuff made for kids today evokes 80s and 90s nostalgia.

This is also why I quit watching most TV and movies, they focus more on action and the story is an afterthought. I know video games can do the same thing, but I'm an avid RPG player.

Honestly same, The movie is amazingly heartfelt and show just how much Rodney cares for his dad. Also I really wanted Rodney to get with Piper at the end, she has a lot more personality that the girl he ended up with

@@sebastienholmes548 The idea is that they can make more by selling only upgrades to those who can afford it, turn those who no longer can into the upgrades. This eliminates costs of spare part manufacturing since it would be marginal income at best. After a certain societal scale, the production of spare parts per robot would be damn near impossible to keep up. Sure generic bolts and such would be the real moneymaker, but that would barely offset the custom chassis pieces. You can also see the use of hand-me-down parts indicating that people were probably not even buying enough spare parts or maybe could not always afford them. This indicates that perhaps there were a crap ton of warehoused parts that were just NOT being sold. Melting that down into upgrades would provide a use since they weren't being bought anyways.

The movie is literally about driving certain undesirables to extinction. That is what those in power are trying to do now.

@@Justmyhandle right to repair is a movement that is focused on giving us the consumers and everyday workers back the right to be able to repair the things we have bought and own. Luis Rossman says it a lot better than i do. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Npd_xDuNi9k.html he has a bunch of videos on the topic and each one gives more and more examples and you get a better grasp of it. as for Corporatism, it's a form of crony capitalism that strips power and control from commoners by having the corporations buy into political factions by subverting the free market. it's represented in the movie by having the main corporation forcing the people to either submit and buy upgrades or outmode into obsolete while having things like the sweepers and chop shot to make sure it's harder and harder for the outmodes to fix themselves as smaller repair shops and free market get slowly snuffed.

I hated this movie when I was like 4, it was pretty weird and confusing that those robots didn't seem like real robots, plus it sucks that there's no human people and also it sucks that Fender lost his legs and stayed in the girly legs at the end

@@yikesyourchunkyhostilityha2321 That's the point. Gender still exists in the form of gender presentation and gender roles, but SEX does not matter. We see this because there are boy and girl robots - explicitly labelled as such - but all they have to do to swap is change their outward presentation (their parts). There are two examples of "trans" robots: Firstly, Rodney spends his senior year with girl robot hand-me-downs. He is visibly uncomfortable as a girl, and swaps back to male parts ASAP - he is a cis male. Secondly, Fender starts the movie as a male-presenting character referred to as Piper's "brother" with he/him pronouns. He then loses his legs and gains a female-presenting set of legs that can lay eggs, along with long metal "hair". From this point onwards, she is referred to with female pronouns and as Piper's "sister" - without comment or question. She is trans/gender fluid/making the best of an unanticipated situation. The trans acceptance is in the fact that a) transitioning is not seen as a big deal, and b) the other characters do not treat the trans characters any differently. They switch pronouns, but otherwise they are treated as the same robot and do not (visibly) face any discrimination, hostility, or pushback. That's the dream for most trans people: being able to transition without comment or issue - just carry on their life but as the opposite gender. The problem is that there are so many barriers in the way - partly due to the differential treatment of men and women in general. Tbf, you probably didn't notice it when you were younger because we didn't use those words back then - you just saw it as robots swapping parts - but it's a pretty obvious reference nowadays. Barnyard came out around a similar time and had a trans male cow that went completely unnoticed for years by mainstream society because it's not said in explicit terms. LGBTQ+ animators and filmmakers have slipped gay and trans references into movies under the radar for YEARS.

I never really liked Robots as a kid, since I was horrified of the disapearance of humanity as it was ruled by mechanical people, and I was also so mad that poor Fender lost his legs and stayed in the girly ones as it sucks without them
