To be fair to the Codex Astartes, the thing that the other Primarchs didn't like about it was the splitting of the Legions. The actual tactical knowledge contained within was all good. But the problem was after all the Primarchs disappeared, people religiously followed the Codex's tenants and left little to no room for deviation, treating it like a holy scripture. Guilliman did revise the Codex when he came back because he was like "FFS guys, you can do something different in battle if the situation calls for it"

Lion el Johnson does become a better person, buts it’s literally seconds before he becomes KO’d and takes his nap. So he never had a chance to reform his dark angels, which is why they are still so doucey and secretive. my favorite guilliman moment is honestly just when him and his dad go on a hunting trip, and his dad gets hurt, and guilliman realizes that he's going to outlive his dad and just feels really sad, and his dad says its going to be alright. Its a little thing but its great.

The one thing that annoys me to no end about ultramarines is that most Space Marine kits have ONLY Ultramarine decals on their transfer sheet, meaning that if you want to paint ANY other chapter, you've got to friggin freehand that chapter symbol.

Robot girlyman is the empire builder, the perfect diplomat and buracrat. While it's not as awesome as a magic giant or a angel, it's exactly what the wounded empire needs now, if anyone can bring it back to the plan the employer had its him.

Now that I heard Guilliman's life on McCragge he really reminds me of a mix between Julius Caesar and Augustus, he pacified a people to the nord (similar to Caesar's war in Gaul) and then avenging his father's death by hunting down the conspirators (like Augustus did with Caesar's killers)

Honestly in the beginning I thought all of the ultra smurf stuff was funny but it got old fast and after years of people bitching and making fun of the Ultramarines, I grew to be a huge fan of them

The funny thing abouth the Codex Astartes is that Guliman intended it to be a guid line. Like a handbook that you pull out when you don't know what to do. NOT as a set of rules that needed to be followed. But somehow just like with big E the rest of the galaxy didn't get the memo.

The absolute best moment my man Roboute Guilliman has that show just how much closer to normal humans was when we read about him declaring that his true arch enemy and nemesis is the.... pen! He's funny enough and doesn't take himself so seriously in literally every moment of his life that he can laugh at himself and the fact that his damn hands and their armor are so massive that he can't pick up a pen off the table. I know people joke about him, but when we hear his inner thoughts or how he talks to his Legion, he is just so endearing and human. He's funny, which is rare for a primarch

Except this episode didn’t even address WHY people dislike the ultramarines so much these days! It didn’t talk about the rise of matt ward, the way that ultramarines havs been turned into unstoppable master fighters and strategists thta are just better than every other faction, how even some of their failures have been retconned into victories or lesser failures. How mary sues like Cato Sicarius came about and how single ultramarines can do literally impossible things. How for the longest while there was a flood of ultramarines figures and even when other factions got figures, ultramarines would get one too like a bratty kid at a birthday party whos mom buys him a present too so he won’t feel jealous. This episode made me like guilleman. Hes cool. But it really didnt go much into the ultramarines themselves, their structure, their time after robooty went to sleep. Etc

The fact that they have no historical or latin background/understanding just makes this funny sometimes. “Ultramar” in example. Ultra in Latin meant something on “the far side” and “Mar” relates to sea/water. In Portugal we still say Ultramar when speaking about African areas that are former colonies that the Portuguese took during the Expansion in the 1500s onwards. We say it because they were on the far side of the sea in relation to Europe and it stuck until today (well we don’t really use it to refer to it in current days, but mostly about when they were still colonies and also when there were wars for independence in the 70s - we call it the Ultramar War actually).

Guilliman really is cool. the way he thinks about war is really cool. what You described there is the concept of total war. a very modern view on war, where ity no just about fighting armies on a battlefiels, but fighting a nation with all of its infrastructure behind it. Guilliman is a really cool character if he understands this an the writers explore the concept of total war through him. Logistics, organisation economics and especially Politics is a really interresting and totally underappreciated part of warfare and has only become more important over the course of history. especially in the 19th century and espaecially the two great wars. from with WW1 was the more interresting and more significant conflict. honestly if Guillman and the ultramarines are the only ones that think like that then it makes total sense there is so much material about them, because it seems they are the only space marines that know how to do war. you can beat a enemy army a thousand times in field. nothing of it matters if the enemy does not decide to stop fighting

I got admit, I loved the Ultramarines since jump street since they were a beautiful shade of blue and they're the 13th Legion and well, that is my number so how could I not love them? I mean the Fists are pretty tight too, but yeah, the Ultrasmurfs were always my first Space Marines.

The Shadow Crusade was only bad because it didn't finish the job. I've been here since Trazyn's episode, and I love this podcast. I consider myself on par with Magnus or Lorgar in terms of forbidden lore knowledge, but I still just enjoy this podcast so much that I watch 'em all despite my own knowledge.

Ultramar cones from the latin and means "beyond the sea". It's pretty common in Latin America and Spain to call stores that sell imported goods ultramarine stores. Hes just a roman simp basically. So yeah it's funny that they thought it was ultracool but there's actually a good reason to call it that way, since it's a domain of the imperium beyond the sea of space.

I've been reading the Horus Heresy books, and the interesting thing to me is that chapters who kinda suck in 40k are actually really cool as legions in 30k. The Ultramarines are largely kept at the periphery of events, avoiding the spotlight-hogging that makes them so annoying in modern 40k, while the Space Wolves are less "wolf-obsessed space vikings" and are instead "the Emperor's grim executioners", which is *far* more interesting. Heck, even the Imperial Fists are kinda cool before the Templare are split off of them.`

We need a much more thorough breakdown on the Calth Atrocity at some point. That whole thing is fucking insane.
