The lyrics are beautiful, love is unpredictable but to care about the third party feelings and how to let her down, its very big of the person and heartfelt. It's like she knows this new romance is breaking someone else's heart and wants to let her down gently and rightfully; call your girlfriend.
For those confused. The song is basically saying: Robyn's (the songs) perspective is the 'new girl' he just met. She is telling the guy to call his girlfriend and give her the 'talk' (explain to her that he is breaking up with her). She is telling him to give his reasons, let her down easy and tell her its not her fault BUT he met someone new (Robyn). Then she's saying don't tell her the details on why he likes the new girl (her) but just to say their still friends.

Lennon and Maisy did a great cover for the song, but their cover is more popular than Robin's song originally. and i think that's not fair for Robin because she doesn'tt really get noticed for it.
i see it like this; the man decides to choose her instead of his gf cause he might not get the kind of love he wants from his girlfriend, but i he couldnt say that to her face that would be awful and as crazy as it sounds he takes advice from the one he's met. i think the song is also about how guys should do when they want to break up; you dont mention how much better the other girl is, cause that would make the ex/gf feel like shit, sometimes worse :) well thats how i see it, i love the song!
the way i look at this song is that she's giving guys everywhere advice, like she's helping them to break up with a girl in the right way and also trying to car for the girl as she says " and you tell her that the only way her heart will mend is when she learns to love again " but yeah, i love this song :L .
I can relate to her and to the girlfriend that's getting her ass dumped and they are both horrible positions to be in. I love this song :) Like "Dancing On My Own" shows what it's like to be dumped and this is the other side, where you're the reason why that girl got dumped. I really like how she can place herself in different perspectives and write songs about it.

Very very true. But at least there is a chance of hooking up with healthier people (or at least avoiding the most toxic ones) if you work on your issues. Otherwise you will be stuck in the same horrible story over and over again. Not a fun way to live...

If noone cares about you, start working on yourself right now. You obviously grew up neglected and probably abused. Get as much "help" as you can - counseling, support groups, books, etc. When you learn to act in a healthy way you will attract people into your life who are not self-centered as your caregivers. Don't pay the price your whole life. Be as good as you can be. Hopefully someone will care about you one day. Good luck and don't give up.
