Lol, and all these people still think Calum was the first to slow the song down and call it “his version”... nope. Calum actually auditioned with this version of her song. 🤷🏽♂️
so true, but i re-listened to both PLENTY and i found one major reason robyn went underrated... That is that she doesn't hold her tone to certain words as long as Calum, hence why when calum sang his version it held a little more feeling in it...
Abe Changsta LoL... the point was: Robyn did a slower acoustic version before calum, but a lot of people didn’t realize that this “version” had already existed... the rest is subjective. ✌🏽
DespicableContent LOL... no it doesn’t. The Song ALWAYS belongs to the songwriter... and like art, music is subjective as to which performance was “better”... fact is: the song is Robyn’s 😎
This song came out when I was 20, my boyfriend had just broken up with me, I found out he had been seeing another girl and while this song was playing I actually saw him in a nightclub I was in, kissing her. Broke my heart and the song felt so apt
This song has healing powers. Listened to this soo many times during a dark period in life many, many years ago… crazy how you can be transformed back in time when hearing it again. Long live Robyn ❤️
Going to be honest here, Calums song was on the radio and I said it was good and my daughter says you need to hear the original so I looks it up and it blew me away, this is good but her single version is a belter and the one where the crowd takes over is pumping.
Beautiful thank you for sharing it. I remember my boyfriend broke up with me and then we were both invited to the same Halloween party and he went with his new girlfriend and I was there with my new boyfriend and someone played this version of the song at the party as we all were dancing and I felt like I was living the song. Because I was in the corner dancing with my new boyfriend trying not to cry and I saw him kissing her while they were dancing. Then after the party when he took her home she said to him she saw how he looked at me and said she knew he wasn’t over me and they broke up and later that same night after the party my boyfriend said to me he told me the same thing that my ex’s girlfriend said he saw how I looked at him and knew I wasn’t over him he also said that he knew he was just his rebound guy and I didn’t love him the way l loved my ex. So we broke up and stayed friends. About three months later my ex, and I got back together and he promised me that he would never break my heart again. He hasn’t. So this song really means a lot to me.
While this version beats Callum's by a mile and is super intense and brings me to tears, I still think nothing can touch the Original. Just the sexy club vibe juxtaposed with the absolutely sad lyrics is a masterpiece.
His version of this isn't as emotional as Robyn does it. She literally wrote and composed the song. She knows what to do. Callum just relied on belting notes rather than emotion
Love the contrast between this and the louder more aggressive album version. This version feels more like the sudden empty aftermath of a failed relationship.
Many covers of this song, people like different versions, Robyn wrote it she is a songwriter, That is where the real credit belongs with the songwriter (plus she gets paid when other people record it!)
I liked Callum's cover and King's of Leon's was decent, but this slow version will always get me. And whenever I'm happy-sad and want to dance, I put on the original. Robyn will forever be the one for me
Calum Scott did a great job with song. Robyn's dance version of this was outstanding. This version of Robyn's showcases how multi-talented she is. So many people have sung carbon copies of Calum's version. Robyn style is truly unique and the emotions she communicates lets me know that this is truly HER song that many others have borrowed. This woman is so gifted and so under-rated.
Just look at her. Feel that voice. Look into her starry eyes... She is like a magnetic field that captures the sunlight and turnes it into a breathtaking northern lights... That's her. This is her song. Masterpiece. R❤byn.
love Robyn, she is such a talented songwriter and beautiful singer. I think a lot of people think this is a Kings of Leon song because Caleb took it and sang it from a male perspective. She is so under rated and kind of still under the radar but her songs are very much courting and sparking the hearts of a hell of a lot of people.
We should all share Robyn's song so the whole world will know how great singer she is. Reading all the comments, it hurts to think how she's been underrated. I never even know she existed until last week I stumbled upon one of her song on the Spotify, and yeah I was blown away like a Tornado. I'm so amazed! I never knew that Calum Scott's version Dancing on my own came from Robyn. Why? She deserves all the credits that she deserves.
Yup and I think she would have been proud of his cover. He did her justice. She’s so underrated and I hope he gave her more fans. I have loved her club style songs for years. But this slowed down version was beautiful.
Callum did a great job with this song. Many others starting sing it. I love both Robyn versions. However, no one can match the emotions of this version. This will always be her song.
I HATE when there's a singing contest show (like The Voice) and they credit the song to Calum Scott. Like WTF, credit the song to the correct artist, who is Robyn not the guy who did a cover of it.
Nicholas Johnson I actually do appreciate both versions, but I was o my saying “dancing on my own” was a major hit. The studio version. But I’ve been coming back to this video since 2011 so I am biased.
@@nicholasjohnson3542 So what? If you're covering a song you credit the original artist, even his slower version of the song is basically this version. It doesn't matter if his cover is more popular it's her song.
You are an angel Robyn. Thank you so much for all the joy and sadness and love you have given us through your work. Its very brave to show your heart to the world. And inspiring too.
This gives me chills....it's soooo beautiful. The CD version was and still is one of my favourite songs ever...but this is a million times better. Don't know how she does it.
As a lifelong metal head,as well as someone who has made a living and retired as a professional musician....I always liked Robyn. When regardless of genre, one person stands out as someone who obviously works harder than everyone else in their field...it shows. It's not subjective like a lot of music and topics on the matter are. Besides being a cute, little elf...she works harder when she undertakes a project than all of her peers ten fold. And it shows up in the content. Her content has a shelf life. Obviously, we're talking about 20 year old songs. Her peer's work has a shelf life of a few months, and that's it. We don't talk about their 20 year old songs, much less anything they put out a year ago. There's others possibly with traditional model type looks, and others possibly with vocal range she may not have...but that doesn't matter when she outworks them all.
