It's great to hear these old school musicians break through the pretentious social barriers that were created by the fans of the various style of music.
Always a treat on have Robyn Hitchcock on a show. His 2017 self-titled album is a return to his more psychedelic electric material. Well worth having. By the way, Eartha Kitt also played one of the Catwomen on the 60's Batman TV show. I also love 'I Want To Be Evil' by her.
Robyn Hitchcock always looked fabulous, and still does! I love Soft Boys and the solo work, etc. -Fantastic! PS: Hahahaha.... It's like Steve's never really informes himself too much about the people he interviews.. Don't get me wrong, I know he likes most of them, he's got great taste. Iggy, Robyn, John Cooper Clarke, Atrhur Brown, Dave Davies, Dhani Harrison, Julian Lennon, Clem Burke, Dave Steward, Dave Vanian, Henry Rollins, Edgar winter, Alice Cooper, John Rotten, Cookie, and many more!
The dude has bronchitis and is hacking away without covering his mouth. I felt so bad for Jonesy, but I couldn't help but laugh at the same time at Jonesy's reactions to the coughing.
I flipped out when i saw RH opening for the Flaming lips(soft bullitin). I He kept on talking about the first delay pedal he used. It was really heavy.
he did, they wrote quite a few songs together on the Captains first two albums, “Brenda Pt. 1 and Pt. 2”, “Glad It’s All Over”, “It’s Hard To Believe I’m Not” and “I’m a Spider” to name a few.
@@sspbrazil I've got both albums on vinyl. Wasn't sure who wrote what but I think I remember reading a Captain interview where Robyn was laughing his head off in the studio when Captain was recording saying " I can't believe your actually recording these lyrics" 😂😂😂 'Eyes like strawberry pies outside your window ' suddenly come to mind and I ain't heard those songs in decades. The song he wrote with Penny Rimbaud of Crass was / is a classic. They should have done more together.
We Bloody Americans have different taste from you Bloody Brits although I’ll speak for myself and not all of America! I noticed in Europe there are plenty of groups that are popular there that are completely unknown here and vice versa! So someone popular in Britain or Europe might not be able to get arrested here and vise versa. I never heard of Robin Hitchcock for example. He has intelligent lyrics and kind of reminds me of Nick Lowe. But I am learning! Thanks to RU-vid!. I can now watch old top of the pops, old grey whistle test and later with Jools Holland. God, I love those shows but I missed it all when it was happening! I’m catching up slowly! Thank God for the Internet!
Interesting that he lives in Nashville. So does Jack White. Nashville is one of the few cities where songwriting is respected and songs are too that also has plenty of good musicians available for live shows or recording. It’s very much Music City USA! In Britain it’s probably still London although I don’t know what’s going on lately. I haven’t followed any one in years.
Great interview. Robyn seems very relaxed. Still funny and verbally playful but he’s not in “on” mode...which don’t get me wrong..I love. But it’s nice seeing him being more natural.
There must have been a golden age of consumerism ( 2002 ? ) when many folks had more stuff than 20 yrs before but the 20 years since then appears to just made wealthy people much wealthier , average people less greatful for what they have - with much less time whilst becoming Homogeneous and the poorest still getting most of the blame. As for drain cleaners , there’s “ D- Block “ and Plumbase did one called “ Dambuster “ ...probably not sympathetic enough to our Saxon relatives so it’s been re named. 🍄🐢❤️ from Wessex
Hitchcock heavily influenced by Syd Barrett and the same voice early David Bowie stole as Syd was one of the first to sing in a distinctive English accent..
Steve says he’s a survivor. He’s right! So is Johnny Lydon and Steve Matlock. But Sid Viscous was Not! The minute he met Crazy Nancy Spungen he was doomed! Same with Kurt Cobain when he met Courtney Love. He was doomed too. But Courtney’s a survivor also and nothing can ever get in her way!
Never take the handshake. Dude could have bronchitis, tuberculosis, leprosy, you name it. The weird thing is that they think you WANT to touch their hand, like they're being magnanimous in offering you the hand.
