When you mention the sample or beat "resetting" thats EXACTLY what I wish for in a beat like this and makes it a perfect loop.

Marcberg might be a good point to start, but it isn't his best work and I think most would agree on this. Reload is most often seen as his best work. I would also give Marcielago & Behold A Dark Horse a try. As for my favourite Marci verse it's probably from Pray for Paris - $500 Ounces: "Uh, ain't no Ls on my jacket The MAC-11 hit your melon and crack it Ain't no pads for that in that medicine cabinet Can't mess with whatever's in that gelatin tablet"

that thing you describe where producers will put a little snippet of a beat at the end or beginning of a track is something that i partially love because it adds texture to the listening experience and partially despise because some of these are too damn good to be throwaways. avaa chef. madlib does it a lot and it pisses me off because he'll just place one of the best joints you've ever heard at the end of a song for like... 7 seconds. like come on man give MED that beat. give YOD that beat.

I swear I came to the same thoughts about Roc and DOOM. I see them as brothers equally mysterious and very similar humor, both are “supervillains” but one is on the sci-fi Star Wars emperor aspect and the other in the pimp, drug lord ruthless mercenary aspect. I’ve said Roc is the only person I can physically hear performing DOOMs rhymes and I don’t lose anything and vice versa. I was REALLY high when I came up with this so seeing my favorite sober French professor come to the same conclusion makes me feel less crazy! AVAA!

It’s definitely worth revisiting all his work from Pete Rock’s Petestrumentals, The UN and all the solo work that followed. As far as the laidback vocal styling, it wasn’t always like that. He once explained the change inspired from Biggie’s growth from Ready to Die and Life After Death. If you listen to how hype Big was on “Gimme The Loot” and how his confidence grew for his sophomore LP, Big was way more chill. I’ve seen plenty complain about his choice of this, but that’s their loss. If you ever get the privilege of seeing him live, his older “hype” style comes out even on newer songs.

Most or all your reviews of underground artists have direct lineage to 3 artists. MF DOOM, Sean Price, and Roc Marciano. This whole renaissance has roads that lead to those 3 artists. Roc Marciano is one of my favourite MC, and to be honest, I don't know why!! It's just a vibe. The same way, there is no real reason to like Basquiat's painting. It's just a vibe...

Arcane is the best way to describe it. He has a way of saying some things that sound like something else and can be heard differently by each listener. Forces a rewind. He said one line in a fashion that had me thinking he said: "Can't be airing out family laundry that's incarnate." When really he said: "You can't be airing out family laundry, that shit corny."

"secret society stuff... arcane"😂😂😂😂 ..... Prof, I think Roc Marciano is not so elusive or enigmatic to deserve such statements swung about his music. Billy Woods or Mach-Hommy, sure. Roc Marciano, to me, is much easier to understand and jam to. His craft is god-tier, but not too obscure like say Aesop Rock. Also, considering that you listen to all these other more "obscure" rappers I have mentioned, there is absolutely no reason why Roc Marciano isn't part of what one may consider "your lane". Perhaps one would say the pimp aesthetic that Marci often portrays may not be to your liking, but only you would know that. Appreciate your thoughts on Marciology. Your assessment of Marciano's production prowess is on point. I'd recommend making time to listen to Reloaded, Rosebudds Revenge 2, Behold A Dark Horse, Reasonable Drought (Prod. By Marci) and Delgado Deluxe (Prod. By Marci). If you're keen on more experimental production, Marcielargo and Mt. Marci are excellent listens as well.

Yeah idk what hes on about really. Things billy and mach say will legit fly right over your head if you dont read philosophy or know about history or even pop culture for that matter.

On verra si le prof me lit ^^

You have no fucking idea Roc Marciano is getting played all day everyday in Northern Spain. This is the sound of the 2030’s keeping ourselves away from your P Diddy vibes.
