Roca Jack in Portillo, Chile, the craziest ski-lift in the world, aka Va et Vient

Imagine a ski lift that can make even seasoned skiers' hearts race. That's the Roca Jack for you. This isn't your average chairlift or gondola. It's what's known as a Va et Vient, or "back and forth" lift.
Picture this: You're standing at the base, 3,004 meters up in the Chilean Andes. In front of you is a bar with spots for five skiers. You and four others line up, grab on, and suddenly you're whisked up the mountain at 3 meters per second.
But here's the catch - and it's a big one. If any one of the five riders makes a mistake during loading or unloading, everyone goes down. It's a team effort like no other in skiing.
As you ascend, you'll gain 306 meters of elevation over a 659-meter journey. The ride takes about 4 minutes, giving you plenty of time to admire the breathtaking Andean views - or to nervously anticipate your dismount.
Once at the top, at a dizzying 3,310 meters, you'll unload as a group. Then, in a unique twist, the lift is manually sent back down to pick up the next brave bunch of five.
But the excitement doesn't end with the lift ride. From the top of Roca Jack, you can access one of Portillo's most thrilling black runs. This isn't just any slope - it's so steep and fast that it has hosted speed skiing competitions in the past. Imagine pointing your skis downhill on the same run where speed demons have attempted to break records in the KL high speed skiing events.
