I was born January 1948 in Rochester at Strong-Memorial Hospital (the same place Twilight Zone's Rod Serling died IN 1975)*. Lived there till summer 1961 when my family relocated to Danville IL. Don't remember riding the subway but do remember my dad driving me downtown to see the Subway's last run. All I remember is waiting and looking into the tunnel for the train to come by. Turns out dad had the day wrong and it was Sunday. The day after it all shut down. *Years later, Serling's friend and eulogist, the Rev. John F. Hayward, officiated my wedding. $50! The divorce cost more but it was worth it!
I grew up in Rochester. Friends and I explored the subway under the bridge at Dewey Ave and Emerson St intersection. I left the area in 1993. Went to visit the area in 2018 where I was devastated to find the subway was filled in. Childhood lost man.
