The planned solo overnight trip goes a bit awry. Decisions are made. It’s a beautiful trail, but it makes you earn it.

UPDATE: Laid up under the weather today. Good reminder to always listen to what your body is telling you.

Dude i felt for you while i'm watching this because i've done that trail so many times i knew where you were at all times. That campsite at the very bottom of the valley (3rd one you showed) is an awesome site and if you would've walked down by the water you probably could'nt give up that site! You would have stayed! It's so cool. Plus there is a really neat hidden rock overhang downstream from that that is amazing to visit. I have 2 or 3 videos on this section that may help you find it. I think it was the one I took my Blue Heeler on. I so understand how you felt though...been there done that. That landscape with zap you! I wish you luck on going back there and really enjoying that trail. It is a real good one. Stan

Oh, meant to add. Such a good decision to turn back...where you were located it would be a long way to the next campsite which would be 2.4 miles down Possum Creek Trail which was still about 4 -5 ish miles from you. So you intuition so was right on.

I’ll definitely be studying up with some of those vids! It’s absolutely gorgeous and warrants a return. I want to put a couple of days on trail next time.

That’s good to know. It’s hard to make that decision in the moment. But when my thinking got foggy I knew it wasn’t time to push it. If I had someone else there it probably would’ve been different, but the wife was very happy with the call hahaha

@@tennesseetrekker1951 Absolutely man, the Rock Creek and Possum Creek sections are awesome and my most favorite place to go. Went a few weeks ago but I didn't shoot any footage...just wanted to chill. If you want any help i know those trails really well and i'm glad to help. I recommend getting the Avenza app which is free, the maps are $0.99 ea...really helps keep you on the CT! on federal property like GSMNP the maps are free to upload. Shuttling is the hard part on the CT since it's linear. If you don't shuttle then you're flip-flopping. One of my friends caught a ride down at the store on Jones Gap Rd. and i caught a ride from a local named Wayne who lives over on Sluder Ln. The locals are so nice.
