Light Rock Fishing (LRF) is turning into one of the most popular shore fishing sports today. Mike Pullen from The Totally Awesome Fishing Show (plus his girlfriend), takes a camping/fishing trip to the south Dorset coastline. Together they burn some serious shoe leather to get to the more remote fishing spots. One of the first shore species a beginner can catch is the Wrasse. Tough fighting, free biting and colourful, you don't have to be a long distance caster to catch one. Mike shows you the simplest rock fishing rig, a back to basics approach that won't cost you a lot. As well as action, you will also get to see some of the historic surroundings that makes this place such a popular tourist destination. Let the action unfold!

I called it The Totally Awesome Fishing Show as I started it with VHS foreign videos back in the 1990's.These are now our vintage series.but I feel like I can put up whatever subjects I want ? I think its still free to watch ? Many like watching D.I.Y. and foreign fishing,and as I pay for the entire project myself,do feel free to switch off if its not want you want .Graeme.

@TAFishing 11 лет назад
Of course anyone who doesn't want to watch can always hit the "off" button. Its free to watch,optional,rather than compulsory. Hopefully there are a lot of shore anglers out there who still regard their fishing as fun.We do.Fishing is whatever you make it.The old broken carp rod trick Eh ? and still catching fish....that's shocking !! Graeme

Hopefully got it covered in next couple of weeks with all fishing film.Of course LRF can mean anything.Light rock fishing.I don't believe there is a law saying it must be a lure ? Ultra-light tackle,lures and snags ,mean a harvest for the seabed and the last thing we need is more tackle broken off in snags.I light tackle fish with rod,but not line.12lb min.I like a chance of getting the lure or bait back ! Watch out for SRF,its coming,and will be targeting big fish hopefully.

Watch out for SRF(serious rock fishing) Going to see if we can't get some big stuff off some rock platforms.The boats are tough with the bad weather and while my best foreign shore catch is 8 lemon sharks over 100,biggest 150lbs in one night sesh,and a 110lb Tarpon from a dock I have never got a monster off the rocks. Tried twice for blue sharks off Deep Point on St.Mary's ,Isles of Scilly,wrote articles,but no blues yet.Still great to try though. Good luck this summer.Graeme.

Going to start new craze of SRF shortly(serious rock fishing),see if we can't get some lunkers as you can often get better fish from the rocks than you can on a boat.50 years of rock fishing and I still love it. Wild,windswept,and on more than one occassion...WET ! Hopefully the cameras stay dry though.Good luck. Graeme.

More planned,but I will start the new craze of SRF(Serious rock fishing) I have to get my pb shore conger above 33lbs. Could be a toughie but hopefully can film it.Might go for solitaire' job and use a headcam .Keep watching,Graeme.

I have done some Pier fishing from there other than that I haven't done a lot. Hope to get over there sometime this summer for some shore fishing - Mike

I wish !! All that warm sunshine,and cheap fuel ? and huge shore sharks ? It was our one day of summer in Southern England-Graeme.

We're actually fishing in Co. Cork now, launching a new craze. we're calling it SRF!! Serious Rock Fishing - no messing about. Pollock to 4bls, bullhuss to 9lbs so far, only been here a few hours!

Im sure they will sleep all the better knowing you've got their back Mr Patriot... As regards to different fishing techniques - WOW obv dangling bait doesn't happen in New Zealand. You should get out there and start pioneering it. Its an amazing fact but most fish eat baits stuffs - you will be hailed as a new age genius im sure when you introduce it to New Zealand anglers. I suggest you reread my posts then you might actually understand my point about the very misguided title.
@tigeroach
@tigeroach 11 лет назад
Nothing in the least bit shocking about making a rod from a broken section, I have done the same myself many times - my fav 12lb class boat rod is made from a carbon beachcaster tip. My point was the rod you describe as light is far from it, made from the tip section of an avon rod or similar then that would be a different matter. definitions again just like the misguiding title on this video of LRF fishing..
@tigeroach
@tigeroach 11 лет назад
Which is exactly why anyone who has half a clue would not use LRF to purposely target wrasse, unfortunately anyone who doesn't know better will get the impression from your very misguided title that its the way to go. One thing for sure its a great way to get a lot of hits on your video given the current popularity of LRF and videos of it on youtube. Again a matter of definition but I would not consider the tip of a carp rod converted to a 5ft rod light or even close to it. SRF - lololol enjoy.

Thank you.... as an ex pat and living in Thailand, I do miss my fishing days in the Uk... this is a great video, I enjoyed seeing again the southern coasts...( I used to go to Lullworth cove and Durdle dor with my kids...)... catching the fish was a bonus .. Barry
@tigeroach
@tigeroach 11 лет назад
No disrespect but that's as close to LRF as waggler fishing is to Tuna jigging - more than a bit misleading. In reality its just bog standard bait fishing for wrasse that ppl have been doing forever. Im sure you had fun but more actual fishing content would have been great.

I for one, enjoy every one of your videos. I have learned so much, and whatever you guys get from making videos, it certainly isn't enough. You guys kick the ass off Sky Tv and their miserable occasional fishing shows. Keep up the good work!
@callofdutykyle
@callofdutykyle 11 лет назад
Just a tip you don't need big bits of ragworm like a whole one. I just use about a 2cm long bit just enough to leave the barb showing, and I've caught wrasse up to 43cm with that.

Misleading title, it's not lrf, it's wrasse fishing on a budget or a bonefish rod made from a carp rod, I'm confused.

Hey Mike try this next summer... Can't get any any simpler than this. The set up you had will work great. However I find 50lb braid better. Fish straight down the edge at your feet no casting other than maybe a 5-10 yard flick to get in the deep water. So 50lb braid a 1oz drilled bullet on the line running directly onto the hook with a piece of rag or for bigger fish can use hard shore crab about 50p size up. Have caught wrasse up to 7lb on this method and caught that many on sessions I've had to resort to using lip it's off the rocks as bait as I ran out of rag worm. Usually have a bite within 10 seconds of feeling lead hit bottom. Can also work different depths of underwater cliff face by reeling in a little at a time till you get bites. Often catch pollack as well just as worm comes to surface when checking baits. My favourite way of summer fishing. For my favourite hard fighting sea fish the Ballan wrasse. P.s sorry about spelling damn autocorrect on ipad

As for soft plastic lures, can't go wrong with Sidewinder lures, the 4" size are your best bet. As for braid, we use Sidewinder braid too, good value for money

Hi Mike do you think the wrasse fishing will be any good in North Wales soon ?
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 10 лет назад
Hi Elliott, yes it should be picking up right about now. I recently did some rock fishing last weekend and had an awesome session. Fished ragworm again, small 2oz lead and fished the ebb tide. The bites were best from about an hour before the ebb. Conditions were good, nice clear sky with good sunlight. Fish were a bit shy, but let them nibble a few times then when you get a consistent bite hit it! Good fun, probably should have took the camera. I'll be back out again in a few weeks and will try and remember the camera this time! Mike
