I would not say he reinvented himself. Buddy was always nice. He just added polish and harder bars. Now M.F. DOOM, that dude transformed into a whole new person!
On Nocturnal it felt like Rock was the main dude and Ruck was the sidekick! On Magnum Force it was more like they both was the main dudes equally! But DIRT? Them niggas both shine on that album! 1988Steez
Vlad we need these interviews man - Biz Markie, Slick Rick, Special Ed, Grand Puba, Howie Tee, Prince Paul, Das Efx, Fu-Schnikens, Doug E Fresh, Breeze from LA Posse, Paris, Pharcyde, Mantronix, Herbie Luv Bug, Gza, Marley Marl, Whodini.
Watching these interviews is bitter sweet coz it just reminds me of how good hip hop was back then...gritty, raw..... gangsta but with intelligence and lyricism. Yeah I know there's still underground music and all that but truth is we will never have that again. First saw the Operation Lockdown video as a kid with this niggaz face painted up looking hella scary.. but the shit was just different!! Real artists with real talent!
Daniel Kelly never heard of him but I'm gonna check him out... appreciate the heads up! Funny tho coz not too many guys from the UK know about Heltah Skeltah, good to see someone from our side of the water appreciating real hip hop and quality MCs 👊
In the beginning, Sean was more technical 95% of the time, Rock had the iller voice but even then he still wasn't no slouch. I'd say it was even, but they both got better as they got older.
I'm sitting here listening to this and what rock said is so true every time I see something about Sean Price I leave this comment I met him when he came to Rochester New York and just what rock said if he spit how he act he would be the Ellis and how he act that is true to form cuz when I met him he did a double-take because he honestly thought I was a nigga he used to commit robberies with so he looked at me like dang when you get out then he looked again I owe my back but him cracking jokes him treating me like I was somebody he grew up with after he autograph some stuff he came outside and we all just sitting there talking and he telling the stories cracking jokes slapping us up like we was part of the crew even later on that night when we went to the show he on stage doing this thing took time out to point me out in the crowd and Shout me out Sean Price is real as they come as underrated as anybody my man rest in peace God MC
You know what's interesting? Rock says that he told Ruck: (paraphrasing) "when you can be the same guy in your raps that you are in real life, nobody's gonna be able to mess with you" and then later Ruck became "Sean Price" which is his name in real life. So I guess he figured out how to do that, and he wanted his rap name to reflect that.
Both them niggas helped out each other so much! It's a reason why those two clicked so perfectly! Sean also told Rock "Just rap! You do too much thinkin' of whatchu have! JUST RAP!" They both gave each other advice! #RIPSEANPRICE
Grew up listening to Dis Incredible Rap Team... I guess what has made them so timeless is co-existence. Rock carried Ruck and inversely Sean P in his prime. He kept it real by motivating this Monster back to D.I>R>T Levels ( I am a Rock fan - Peep his verse on So Damn Tuff). They were more than a Duo. It's much deeper. Iron sharpens iron, Diamond to Diamond. These twins perfected the art from my end. I doubt that if the current Hip Hop era will never produce such Artistry...
It's so nice to see these interviews. Rock is awesome. RIP Sean P! When I grew up, the first stuff I heard from him was Monkey Barz. I was a fan right away.
I think Ruck was quiet on the album though he did rap on all songs with Rock! I don't think he killed Rock, I just think Rock overshadowed him alittle in the album cause if you think about it? Rock lead most songs off the album!
When I was a kid all I remember was "Everyone welcome to the gangster world of Agallah" 😂! I was too young to learn the rest of the song lol. #ripseanprice
I definitely understand what he meant by bits and pieces, but fuck, Ruck was still dope as shit on Nocturnal. That's when he became my favorite MC. Rock has one of the meanest voices in rap (along with Billy Danze IMO), but I always thought Ruck/Sean Price had the best sounding voice in the whole game. Something about it just appealed to me way back when. His verses on "Clans, Posses, Crews l, and Clicks" and "The Prowl" had me stunned. Previews of what was to come.
It's called a High Riser ring and they were popular back in the days in NYC. The design is the Decepticons logo. That was a gang from Brooklyn in the 80s and early 90s that Ruck and Rock were major components of.
Right lmao! Even Rock spoke on that shit about Magnum Force before P said the shit about him "..And stop asking me why Ruck cut off his dreads" 😂! Its all proof on "The Passion of Price" he explained it..
I know Rock is just trying to big up his brother here but he was better than Sean P during their first wave without question. I’m talking 93-97 era. Rock was top 3 in BCC at the time with Buckshot being the #1 guy. Rock was killing all verses and features. Grate Unknown is still his best solo track. It wasn’t until later on down the line when Sean P started to find a new style and take off.
I disagree … Rock had the complete package when nocturnal dropped … even on Lefluh Leflah he was the standout …. Not just voice but lyrics wise … Ruck had to grow into Sean P
Taya'an Jr. Thats what the fuck Im saying! Ok Rocks voice has always been ice cold but Ruck from Letha brainz blo to Operation Lockdown was lyrically on a different level... vlad is a poser he only check for the artist when the spotlight is on em
This interview shed some mad light on the GOD , that honesty and humility ,had love and respect 4 ROC since BCC , one of the deepest voices and grimiest raps outta the east coast , Rip Sean price , mf doom Thanks vlad ❤
I understand what rock said but Sean had some very ill lines on the nocturnal album. Here is some prove. "Straight from the under, I make niggas wonder, why I tap jaws, rock black eyes See I, never think about things I be doing Lives I ruin, in this here shit we pursuing My parabellum be swelling cerebellums when ya dwelling The Caucasoid, you void, 'cause my niggas rebellin' Who in the hell ever, said you can dwell whether Or not, I sever your knot, with the shots so whatever, akh What? You don't wanna battle me, battle me, that'll be The day my whole posse rushes your monkey ass like cattle, G True warrior, conqueror, takin' flights, yo Watch a nugget, I love it when niggas gone psycho" - Sean Price - That shit is some of the illest on point, slow flow shit I heard to this day. It still blows my mind.
To be in a group with Rock (at that time) would be impossible for anyone to stand out but you're right; Sean had hella dope verses on Nocturnal that stood out too
I listen to this and Imperius Rex as a double album. I'd always wish duo's would do this then Outkast came through! But imagine Mobb Deep did that - 1 Prodigy album and 1 Havoc album! That shit woulda been a sales monster! And obviously Wu-Tang gotta take it to the next level with a full 9 bluray disc series collection😂
Nocturnal is when discovered Sean Price and his flow was unlike any at the time... Nocturnal too me is a top ten album all time because every song is bangers
It’s funny. When Heltah Skeltah was in their prime people wanted that Rock solo album. He was offered solo deals and everything. Even Starang was getting more attention then Ruck. Rock couldn’t put it together. I wonder why. Sean Price has the best catalog on Duck Down.
RUCK killed Nocturnal LYRICALLY….they both are dope but RUCK never disappointed. Operation Lockdown….Undastand…..Therapy……bruh…..he’s BEEN that dude!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Ruck got busy on Da Wiggy... go back and peep his verse... "so chill chicken for I choose to chastise, bruise, batter and baptize, bitches and bums with blood from black eyes when I slap guys".
