Rock hounding and fossil hunting Higbee Beach in Cape May New Jersey. This week we find some great rocks, minerals and fossils. We even make a special trip up to Big Brook in Colts Neck New Jersey (Monmouth County) to search for fossils there. Take a look at this video to see what we found!

@dawnmorales1553 I'll pin this comment so it's at the top of the comments for this video and that way if anyone sees it from your area, they can contact you directly. I'm happy that you're as dedicated to rock hounding as you are. Keep at it, there are amazing finds ahead for you - Paul

I'm late to the party (by a year) but YT just recommended your channel to me and I'm loving it. (I am also all about rocks with lines/striations.) I've only been to Cape May once, maybe 7 years ago, and my family could just not get on board with my desire to look for Cape May diamonds as opposed to ONLY jenky oyster shells. (Most of us are from NW PA so even those are treasure. 😂) In an event, love the channel already, though now I'm itching to get back to Cape May! Look forward to what else you've posted.

Welcome Grayhat Jen! Thanks very much for the kind comment. We love Cape May and have found that Sunset Beach, Higbee Beach and the West Cape May Beach (near the ferry terminal) are some of our favorite beaches to search. Any beach is a good beach to beachcomb though - You never know what's coming in on the next wave. Thanks again and all the best to you from down here outside of Philadelphia - Paul

Love the rose quartz pebbles! And all the other quartz too. That's what I miss most about NJ beaches. Don't see that much down here in TX. The basalt with quartz stripes are one of my favorites as well. I never pass one up. Way cool fossils too!

Hi Roxy! Thanks very much for checking out my video and for your comments! We love the south Jersey beaches and try to do day trips as often as we can. We also try to do a full week in Cape May every year. Thanks for your remembrances of NJ. All the best to you from up here in Pennsylvania - Paul

@dawnmorales1553 Thanks for watching! I think you'll find other rock hounders when you go to certain rock hounder spots. It may take time, but there are more of us out there then you may think. My rock hounding videos are the most popular videos on my channel. Good luck and check back again sometime soon - Paul

Some very neat finds! I love combing the CMC bayside beaches for neat coral fossils and colorful quartz pebbles! I've even found a few white banded agate pebbles on Higbee beach. Years ago, I also found a flip phone which had clearly taken a trip through the bay. I almost got it to work but it was too far gone and shorted out. As for the creeks throughout the rest of NJ... I'll have to take a look. Those are some nice looking fossils!

Hi Mr. Nope! Thanks for watching and the comment. Yes, Cape May is an awesome spot to get out and explore. We like Cape May Point especially. Thanks again for watching and check back sometime - Paul

that coral you found is a piece of dead northern star coral! i have piles of it from up in long branch-- it's really gorgeous stuff! the piece you found seems a little more smoothed out than the ones i tend to find, i like how soft it makes it seem :)

Hello Finian! Thanks very much for watching and especially the ID. As you can tell, I'm still learning about the stuff we find. Mrs. Shell Casing Kid is much better then me with research, but she can't research everything we find. Thanks again and please check back again some time - Paul

Great channel! I live in Delco, too. Can you tell me what fossil book you’re using as a reference? My 10-year-old and I are just getting into rockhounding and fossil collecting.

Hi Dominic Mercier! Welcome and thank you for subscribing. The book I use during the wrap up in this video is by DK publishing - Smithsonian Handbook of Fossils by Cyril Walker & David Ward. I hope that helps. Fossil hunting is a great activity to get your kids interested in science, it's also just a fun way to spend time together. Please check back again soon - Paul

LOL Higbee Beach! Up in North Jersey, Beach G in Sandy Hook was the same. When they tried to ban it there & other places, Shel Silverstein (who wrote children's books, "A Boy Named Sue" & a few other country hits) wrote this song: "They Won't Let Us Show It On The Beach". Here's Bobby Bare singing it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cFp3a5Tgqmsr.html Went there once back in the early/mid 80's and I can't even describe how hilarious it was to watch & listen to nearly 100 beach-goers singing this song.... led by my friend Steve playing the guitar in sub-minimal apparel, bobbing on the waves in an inner-tube.

Big Brook fossils are 70 million years old. Besides that you have a nice collection of junk and rocks.

So used to the nude people on the beach

@dawnmorales1553 - yes, it seems to still be a spot for people that like to sunbathe nude. I guess if you're going to Higbee Beach, you should just be prepared for it - Paul

I’ve been fishing higbees my whole life and i’ve only seen gay men nude sunbathing… most don’t bother anyone but a few i had to physically defend myself… litterally, watch your ass.
