Along "Giant" , "Seconds" remained one of Rock's favorite of his movies.
The film was based on David Ely' s novel.
Rock was finding himself pigeonhelded in comedy & yearning to change his image and "Seconds" was an opportunity to break out of comedy mold.
The failure at boxoffice hurted him; fans were not willing to see him in that kind of role. But years later "Seconds" had been elevated to Classic status.
Rock went to Cannes Festival to present the movie in 1966.

I saw it yesterday and it is as great as people say. It is absolutely current and Rock should have been at least nominated for the Oscar without doubt. It sucks that at the time, it didn't get the recognition it deserved but I'm glad it has it now.

Even though Seconds bombed at the box office, IMO this was Rock Hudson's most powerful performance. During the scene when Hudson breaks down at the party, some people who were there later stated that he wasn't acting; the emotions Hudson displayed in that scene were genuine. It's almost as if Hudson became the role he was playing. IMO, he should have received an Oscar for his performance.

This is the movie worthy of an update! Clooney would kill in the role. A timely idea for today’s narcissistic yet esacapist mind set type people.

Such a fascinating and insanely f**king brilliant film...I just finished watching it a few minutes ago. Rock Hudson's unforgettable--and criminally underrated, I may add--performance as the recycled cadaver Tony Wilson was perhaps one of the greatest of his career. And John Frankenheimer's moody direction was absolutely perfect, along with James Wong Howe's astonishing black and white cinematography.
