Join Ryan and I as we discuss the year 1986, when Hair Metal and the Glam look exploded! Guys looking like their sister took over the top of the album charts, with bands like Bon Jovi, Poison, and Cinderella leading the way. However, there were a ton of other great bands that came out that year as well... come along for the ride!

@@HairMetalGuru419 they did everything right, and crack a smile was amazing. i loved how they sounded like poison, with a more modern sound…and it worked. but bret is a control freak who demands to be in control, or walks. he has the band by the nuts in order to tour, and demands to either use his studio, produce, or hire producers who allow him co-producer credit. that is why the songs on power to the people and hollyweird sound terrible, and why hollyweird was a terrible record in general. its why there is no more material but covers, and why he limits what is out there to his solo product.
@Jayhawk9
@Jayhawk9 Месяц назад
I’m with you guys. Bret keeps all yes men around him. He needs to have someone to tell him that his solo stuff is horrible and needs to be writing with the poison guys and make some new poison music. Hell no matter what they come up with has to be better than that garbage of an album they called hollyweird.

Giuffria’ “ Love you Forever” the second single from “Silk And Steel” is a soaring ballad that should have been a hugely successful single. Giuffria mined it as well as “Radio” on American Bandstand in 1986. “Girl” was a ballad also as was the song “Heartache”. “Call to the Heart” from their self titled debut was a Top 15 Hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. If you don’t know “Lonely In Love” (the follow up single from their debut) check it out as it was played on MTV and charted as well.

Great White - Shot In The Dark: I have a copy of that on the Telegraph label. I think this was just before they signed with Capitol. Most of the songs sound the same, but the opening track "She Shakes Me" if not for the keyboards could've been on their self-titled album. It's a bit more harder edged than the Capitol release. For me Fastway's Trick Or Treat soundtrack was my favorite release of '86 along with Waiting For The Roar (also '86). A few others: 01. Triumph - Sport Of Kings 02. Alice Cooper - Constrictor 03. Grim Reaper - Rock You To Hell 04. Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time

Hi Guru 1 and Guru 2, great video again. Yes TFC by Europe could've been a curse for them, Kevin Elson produced the album and did a great job for the time. Kevin Elson is also known for producing Journey's Frontiers album. Ron Nevison the took over Europe's follow up "Out of this World" that added a massive glossy/keyboard production. Ron also produced Ozzy's The Ultimate Sin, another great album that Ozzy completely ignores but sold more than most he's other albums. (Bob Daisley doesn't get the praise he deserves for being Ozzy's right hand man, writing most songs and melodies from 81 (Blizzard of Ozz) to 91 (No more tears). Great mention ref Waysted, this is a gem with Danny Vaughn on vocs, I know Danny Vaughn is actively interviewing and lives in Spain, would be a great interview video. Thanks again for the content. Have you heard the Peacemaker tv show Spotify Playlist (not the soundtrack)? Would make for a cool review video, especially if you've seen the show as the soundtrack is blended in perfectly. Some great hair/sleaze bands and some more obscure cuts along with some hits, can tell James Gunn is a legit 80s rock/metal fan. I'm a Christian too Anthony, that's the only stryper album I really liked. Like w.a.s.p. better 😆 86 I was 11 years old. I was mostly listening to kiss because of my older brother. I would go to school wearing kiss shirts and my teachers would say I listen to them 😂

Fate were ex-members of Mercyful Fate. They obviously went a total different direction. “Limbo A Go-Go” is catchy but super cheesy.

“Lethal Weapon” was the only song by Honeymoon Suite on the “Lethal Weapon” soundtrack. The song later appeared on the Racing After Midnight album in 1988. “Bad Attitude” appeared on the Miami Vice TV show but wasn’t on any of the show’s official soundtracks. “What Does It Take” is one of the greatest ballads ever.

Only disappointed that FATE was mentioned without the bizarre Spinal Tap explanation that this is remnants of the all time classic, dark, satanic metal band MERCYFUL FATE, infinitely more popular and FATE, and rather hilarious the big bad metal guys turned into a total pop-hard-rock band. Just like when GRAVE DIGGER tried to be DIGGER.

Ryan you couldn't come up with 10 albums in 86 that you had to put in 5150? It's about as glam as my sisters box.

I just classify them as heavy metal--definitely not hair metal, but I wouldn't hesitate to talk about them on the channel. I talk about AC/DC here, and Accept fits into that vein in my opinion. Cool band.
