With a 7/10 rating average on IMDB, I don't know if I would call this "underrated" as there are many other obscure gems with nowhere near as much recognition as this cult classic. However as much as I love The Monster Squad, I definitely think that it's not only one of the greatest Horror/Black comedy films from the 80's, but also ever made!
When I was a young punk rocker, there was a band called "Monster Squad", somehow I accidentally downloaded this song off limewire or something, burned it and played it one day with all my friends in the car. Over the next few days it became our favorite song, such a groove. I still haven't seen the movie fifteen years later.
The whole entire essence of that movie was punk. It's like if he Goonies were punk and instead of them fighting off the Italian Mafia, they go head to head against all the classical monsters. You should watch it!
"They were having a two for one at Fox Photos and, wouldn't you know it, there's a space on the bulletin board... right between the promo committee notes, and the football roster" 😎
I couldn't believe Tom Noonan was in the retrospective on the DVD release. I assumed he was one of those snooty stage actor types. Very cool. And he's good in whatever he appears in.
I like the part where Michael Sembello says, "AHHHH!!!!!!!!!" It sounds like he feels refreshed from drinking a can of ice cold soda. LMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Laugh my head off)
This song had no business going as hard or as catchy as it ever did! It literally precedes all initial memories of the movie itself. It's the first thing that plays when I think of this movie.
1988 yo that was the best year summer of my life was 10 years old at the time so they had my own house out of Virginia that somebody had Virginia Beach VA

I listened to this while converting it to mp3, downloading it, moving it over to my local folder for spotify on my cell so I can add it to my playlists. And I felt like a camera was on me while I was doing this montage lol.
Yeah I specifically remember that line from the original soundtrack. In the movie, it's said near the scene Rudy is making silver bullets from Sean's mom's silverware
I spent so much of my childhood trying to find this song - bless you Dj Lee and the internet for taking me back 80's montage style! Ready to fire up the 'ol nintendo and go build a pillow/blanket fort in the basement with my neighborhood friend :)
Man befor dvd was a ring and apps. I rember me and my brother's and dad went out and searched for this movie. Found it after about 6 hours kick ass movie !!
Here's an idea that I think might satisfy both parties, a sequel where their all grown up and facing slasher villains like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees etc.
The film I remember this track from was 1987's "Campus Man", shot in my hometown of Tempe, AZ. It's astounding to me that Sembello never released this or the other two tracks from that movie on CD or Vinyl. Really wish I could find an uncompressed version. 😒
Oh my god.me and my mates in high school were the monster squad.i made a stakes in woodwork cuz I saw this film.and me and my 4 geek mates went to the local cemetery looking for vampires.1988.xx
