1:13:41 I think those guitar riffs you're talking about are from his shows, they usually play the song on the guitar before dropping the beat, which makes it even more fun to rage to... Metalheads and Rockers usually always diss carti's concerts rages and moshpits, simply because they think we're copying them and doing it to "trash music". Which makes me love your channel even more because you're so open about music and I'm loving seeing you dive into this type of music, you've caught my attention since the Yeezus reaction. Props to you Bob! (Reposted this comment since the other video got blocked)

Albums shape my opinion over time. If you pay close attention, you'll see me start to settle in around tracks 3-4. This is where I start to get a feel for the album and what the artist may be trying to do and become more comfortable with what they're doing. From there, I let the artist shape my opinion further. To me, it's like reading a book. I cannot form an opinion until the end, but as I journey through it, the story told up to that point leaves a certain impression. imo wanting ‘hip hop’ (loosely construed) to subvert its own stereotyping in media or its appearance as an outsider - having deep lyrics and messages and etc - is missing how artists like carti, or chicago drill artists eg. chief keef embody the conditions being addressed in more ‘conscious’ work within the music itself. for example the beats are constructed to sound as voilent as possible, repetitivity turning into a hypnotic near-boredom and etc., reflecting the lifestyle and conditions that j. cole or kendrick address lyrically. so there is more going on but its not lyrical (represented), but rather embodied (literal) i forgot who said it and how exactly but ‘conscious’ rap panders to white expectations of black music and experience, rather than challenging those expectations

I think you should watch a carti concert to really get a grasp of how the music is interpreted live. A lot of Carti’s music is really meant to be heard live, you can really see how his energy on the track can influence a track. Even songs that seem pretty mellow can have 10X more energy when he performs it. Try checking a concert video out.

yo bob idk if you’ll see this but i watched the original version of this video, but i came back because i remembered something that maybe you’d be interested in watching on your own time or for a video. I stumbled upon a video called “Playboi Carti ANTI-Concert Review” and it was this french professor who went with his son to a Carti concert, and had very interesting takes about the concert. it’s definitely worth a watch. anyways love the content bob.

I watched this video, and it was an interesting perspective. It was honestly a little hard to wrap my head around, because I'm so used to shows being a certain thing-a band playing a killer set and everyone jamming to it. What that guy is describing is exactly that, an anti-concert. Like... I get it, but I don't get it lol

To answer your questions on “fell in love” when carti says ‘she got her panties off, with no T” he simply means no t-shirt lol. & also when he says ‘ i put the doors up , she likes to show off’ he is referring to a super car he owns with doors that open vertically as most cars with that design are considered luxurious.

Once you finish DAMN, I suggest listening to jcole from his first mixtape to his most recent album. The two have been compared for years and both are on a lyrically different level than anyone else. They truly both lead the rap game. Jcole is heavily lyric based, so your style of analyzing every line will be needed for every song of his. I have a great feeling you will enjoy his music!

Carti is really similar to house music where you sort of stop thinking and just nod along, analyzing him can be overwhelming because of how low calorie it is - the music isn’t really an experience. If you want something a more stimulating I’d recommend my beautiful dark twisted fantasy and madvillainy
@bobthepoppop

I did some listens in the car today while driving home, and that's the same conclusion I came to. It's more of a mellow head-nodding type of jam. I don't think it's as well suited for something like my style of reaction where it's being heavily analyzed. Nothing wrong with that either, just is what it is.

It’s so refreshing to see someone listen to new music this openly. For the record Playboi Carti fans and his music in general gets a lot of hate for his lack of lyrical prowess. Your reference to his lyrics and his voice as an instrument is perfect and it shows you fully understand why his fan base is so large. It’s about the vibe and nothing technical
