Thor is not from earth so he doesn’t count, as considered the warriors from Asguard who were chasing rocket say (stop that rabbit) so people from his world call raccoons rabbits apparently. And 2nd Tony Stark is one of the most brilliant minds on the plant, of course he knows rocket is a raccoon.. he called him a build a bear which is a store you can find empty stuffed animals and fill them yourself he thought rocket was a stuffed toy not actually alive...
Maybe he thought rabbit is better than racoon, he don't corrected any other name too. I bet he thought racoon is such humiliated animal, since Quill call him in such tone.
I don't think rocket has any idea what he is in the first place so when one of the gods calls him a rabbit, and with respect, he might want to believe he is a rabbit.

He was engendered and he was a raccoon but experiments were done on him. But in reality he's an Alien raccoon creature, but its easier to call him a raccoon. As they say in the movie, he was cybernetically engenered Illegally. "Result of experiments done on a lower life-form" As said in the movie.
Not only does this hit different after Volume 3, but now I'm thinking about how getting called "Rabbit" likely made him think of _a certain someone,_ and just. 😭
And the fact that Thor always called him rabbit as a sign of respect for Rocket. I think Rocket would appreciate that the Asgardians hold rabbits to a high regard given that Floor was such a pure soul.
@@Liaysohere's actually an in universe reason why the Asgardians associate Rocket with rabbits. When they arrived on Midgard [Earth], they ended up Tonsberg [where the Tesseract was buried by Odin & would later be New Asgard] a place where the common woodland creature ar the time were rabbits. Now, as someone earlier mentioned, it's not clear if Rocket knew if Floor was indeed a rabbit... but along the way, it's possible as he knew what a dog was in the first Guardians movie. I *do* really like your assessment though as it's pretty damn wholesome
@@setsyoufree8 aside from that, i've always loved that exchange for it's tone as well. like, at any other point in the films, Tony would be talking way more trash, and Rocket probly would have gone OFF on Tony for that crack. he's not gonna be belittled, he has an ego and a natural propensity toward conflict, and he's not gonna let Tony get in a snarkier jab than him. but at THIS POINT in the story, everyone is feeling as low as they can possibly be, Tony is just looking for something to break the depressing tension, and rocket kinda senses that fact and also just doesn't have the emotional energy to engage, so he's in the mindset of "After that sad display back there, fumbling the ball that hard, and literally losing half the population in an instant, i FEEL about as USELESS as a Build-a-Bear right now, so yeah, maybe i AM...." this is as close to admitting defeat as we see from the "Class clowns", It's clear that the two snarkiest people in the room just don't have anything LEFT in the gas tank emotionally, and are both just sort of "phoning it in".
@@OmarFaruk-bn9bi it's a reference because Rocket and Ratchet have many similarities. Both mechanics, both loves guns and both are rodents. If you ever heard about Ratchet and Clank, you would get it.
A bit late but when in legends thor visited earth for the first time lika 1 thousand years back (don't remember when at all) The place he went to still didn't have raccoons and there rabbits were more raccoon looking so that's the closest comparison
The real question is if Rocket is actually being confused for other animals or if raccoons exist throughout the universe and have a different species name on each planet. We may never know.

It's satisfying when he finally comes to terms he was always a raccoon and accepts himself for the first time🦝❤️🩹
When Rocket said “What’s a raccoon?” I bet it’s because he was never told at the lab. After that, he insists he’s not a raccoon because that’s just some Earth creature, and he’s from a lab. Spoiler: . . . . In Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Rocket encounters a box of baby raccoons from Earth with their species name on the box. He reads through the box label and holds them, and ultimately accepts that he was a baby raccoon in a box in a lab once, and is a raccoon.
I love how most of them are joking around or are semi-serious while Thor is just straight up serious and Shakespearean . I love him and Rocket together and love how Infinity War combined all the different personalities and senses of humor of the different heroes together .
I love how some of the characters are consistent about what they call Rocket: Thor calls him rabbit, Mantis calls him dog, Yondu calls him rat, and Nebula calls him fox. Also, I can't believe Rocket doesn't think he's a raccoon.
why would he? from his perspective he's not from Earth also, in the comics, he's not even a Racoon In the movie Captain Marvel, an entire plot point is that the Human Carol Danvers thinks she's a Kree. Species do look alike in sci-fi
Its very logical that Rocket doesn't consider himself a racoon. He doesn't even know he is from fucking Earth. I actually appreciate how this ignorance fuels this entire discussion in the movies.
You know I always thought he hated being called a raccoon because that was his previous life were he was a stupid animal and is now embarrased that he used to be related to a mindless trash theif, but nope its cause he literally doesn't know that he is a raccoon
I like how James made sure every character called him something differently consistently. Besides quill and groot. But I like how they both knew what he was lol.

Least him hating his appearance came with alot of warrant and stayed consistent Whether the writers meant to or not since GOTG 1, they made a running gag that became more later to explain why
