THERE WAS A PIECE OF SOMETHING ON MY LEFT CHEEK AND I AM REALLY UPSET THAT NOT ONE OF YOU DURING THE LIVE STREAM ON TWITCH AND RU-vid TOLD ME ABOUT IT. SO NOW WHEN I WATCH THIS VIDEO BACK IT'S ALL I AM STARTING AT. Alright, rant over, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
it feels to me that they didnt utilize the Rocket League side of it at all, its just a standard racer with RL branding slapped on top, swap out the octane and I would have never known it had anything to do with rocket league
The question is whether Rocket Racing has advanced mechanisms that aren’t immediately obvious that lead to depth of gameplay. Cuz I had a lot of friends who tried Rocket League and didn’t see what the big deal was at first. But then they found out about aerials, dribbles, flip resets, etc. That’s what made RL fun. Simple concept, deep gameplay, huge skill ceiling. I kinda doubt this game has anything like that, but we’ll see
You saw the video too bro. Drive forward, powerslide, boost and instantly attach yourself to walls. It's like dance dance revolution meets a very basic racing game
this game doesn't even have physics! if you could MANUALLY MOVE INTO the wall, it'd be one thing, but it's literal deterministic racing gameplay: press X or Y button, attach to wall. press this button, fly.. press the other button, do boost like nothing is skill capped.. shit is just absolutely garbage, holy shit
time will tell. speedrunners find bugs and exploits in many games to save time on their runs, it's somewhat likely that we haven't explored all of what rocket racing has to offer. hell it took a year or two after rocket league's release to figure out how to aerial and ceiling shot, and flip resets didn't get discovered immediately when that "save-your-flip" update came out with the asymmetrical maps, we'll just have to wait and see
racing games can have complex mechanics, however, this is like a mobile game made for 7 year olds. They will keep it simple and basic, and boring for everyone over the age of 12. All this is is another way to sell cosmetic items, I don't see any passion or anything interesting about this game.
I agree however they wanted to put on the new engine. So it would be great if like they simply found a way to keep trading. And still add rocket racing to fortnite if they really wanted to.
This game doesn't do anything better than the other options available. It honestly looks like a pretty version of a mobile racing game. And if that's what you're into, that's cool, but that's what it seems like.
Agreed, looks fun but as someone who doesn't already have Fortnite I'm not going out of my way to download it. I'll just play Mario Kart if I wanna race
It looks like a generic racing game that has a few RL cars. I just don't understand how some RL players are going bonkers for it. There are plenty of other racers that are as good or better.
@@spaceboy3101broo its honestlly an amazing arcade racer. Im loving every second. Its skill based, fast paced, and competitive. As someone who loves racing game, Im about to spend a shit ton of time in it. Still wish we had trading in rl tho...
@@SaugusDudley for the last 2 years the best devs have been working on this also they took out trading cuz ur items transfer imagine having a white hat rn F to a generation
truly is fucking ridiculous. litrral 5 minutes would be necessary to do a decent rocket league racing game: just add some ui and a couple tracks to the main game, there there's so many mechanics and fun quirky shit you can do with rocket league cars.. imagine winning by an inch because you and your opponent both had 10 boost on the last stretch but your speed flip was so perfect that you overtook him on the finish line... there's so much potential with the existing game yet they decided to not tell us anything to release the literal pinnacle of mobile racing games, for pc.... ridiculous... fucking ridiculous
@@yurilopes420 my thoughts exactly. and what makes it worse is that almost EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN ASKING FOR IN RL WAS ADDED TO FUCKING FORTNITE. grayscale for primary? we got it in Sideswipe, we now got it in Rocket Racing. not for the OG tho. easier way to access painted variants? it's in Rocket Racing, not in Sideswipe or the OG. a UE5 overhaul for easier and faster content updates? likely this is what it actually was. a racing gamemode for RL? well, ur looking at it. all of this in fortnite while the OG got nothing new.
@@blooooop-x2m everyone has been fucking shafted all this shit removing trading all, to just have a shitty stupid casual bullshit racing game mode, IN FORTNITE, with the inventory being shared with rocket league inventory. it is the single most retarded nonsensical removal of a feature I've ever seen..
I've been playing racing games for years. Love em. I also love RL. This seems like a 'fine' arcade racing game. But theming this game with RL aesthetics is just marketing. They didn't have to do it, and it sucks that it affected RL's development.
I would be super excited for RR if it was launched in RL. The game looks like doodoo, camera view looks weird, there's literally nothing exciting with the game mode. Calling it a game is pretty much far from it, it's a Fortnite game mode. Even in the lobby you have Fortnite characters standing right next to the cars. Hot Wheels Unleashed with RL cars.
i think with enough feedback, they will change things to make it feel better. i would love to play this mode with the traditional rocket league controls. then maybe add in some rumble style power ups to add in more chaos
One of the biggest things I noticed is they show obstacles in the tutorial, but aside from jumping to smaller segments of elevated road, there isn’t much to actually slow you down on the track. If you get ahead early it’s GGs bc as long as you stay on a good line nobody can physically catch you. Especially with bigger maps, those big stretches really just keep the racers in their positions. Not saying it has to be Mario Kart, but Fortnite is an arcade style game and they could easily put that into RR (and maybe they will).
The tracks are broken into difficulties. The harder ones have waay more obstacles and are super skillful but ranked chooses tracks randomly so they dont come up often.
As someone that’s played too much there are plenty of maps with lots of obstacles and stuff like that and even without it I have been way behind several time because I get bumped and get back to second or 3rd. I’m plat 2 currently
Apparently in an article by Esports Insider, they state that the Rocket League Esports scene was hit the hardest with the layoffs in September. And just from reading what it says it's bad... "Esports Insider couldn’t immediately verify the number of people on the Rocket League Esports team that were affected. However, a former Rocket League Esports Program Manager not affected by the layoffs claimed in a post on X that only three employees were left on the Rocket League Esports team."
@JSvS870 To be honest, it feels like forever since I've actually watched any Rocket League content. I used to watch Lawler on occasion a while back, but nowadays with everything going on Rocket League just isn't what it used to be, at least for me unfortunately.
so far i 100% think Rocket League Racing is a fun arcade racer. But its not much more then that. It doesn't have the depth or mechanics that made people fall in love with RL. I think its like jon said, its fun and worth checking out but am I going to be playing this in 2 weeks? probably not.
After playing it for 15 hours I can officially say, the game gets really good. There's so many secret shortcuts as well as drift cancels that get your speed up, and every race is super competetive. If you get a squad with actual decent players it's amazing.
Finally someone who thinks positively about it, I have also figured out the game and it is great, also with the speed and the competition, I just hope that there will be tournaments in which I could also participate I'm almost Diamond rank already 😅😂
@@Dalio. I'm almost plat, there's certain maps where I win almost every time, and then there's some that I just can't seem to figure out. I've also figured out how to chain drift cancels so Im always gaining boost.
I almost think they should make it more like mario kart, throw the rumble power ups in there and maybe add a few new items and i think it adds 10x more to this game
"rumble powers" lmao what makes you think they would have such a good idea with something that IS ALREADY IMPLEMENTED and would be 0 effort to reimplement? wishful thinking there buddy, leave those good ideas for the good companies, epic ain't it
Im upset about trading being removed. But the comments are objectively blindes by hate. This mode is extremely fun and polished for its first day. The movement needs some tweaking but this is one of those modes that will likely have new stuff added to it consistently. I enjoy it
Blinded by hate? Nah man you tripping. This “game” has 4 cars (one of them is $40) and not even all the items available. They spent 2 years on an arcade racing game with little depth. You seem like you’re completely ignoring what this is doing to Rocket League as a whole. So let’s fill you in. They laid off people from at least 3 confirmed departments; Esports, community communications and development team. They toke away trading. Radio silence for 2 years. And no new content except “give us your money for kewl car skin kekw”. They have taken away extra modes and put them on a monthly cycle. People who mained those modes can no longer play their mode’s competitively. They no longer can enjoy Rocket League in the way they want to enjoy it. That’s why we’re mad. Some people have taken it too far for sure. I’ve asked pretty much everyone ive gotten a chance to play with what they think and we all say the same thing “why?”. I remember when Psyonix said “We had a dream of creating a car game with in depth physics and most likely racing that was fun”. So why is this not in Rocket League?! I’m glad you enjoy it man. I really do, but please don’t call it blind hate. We have already been abused enough by Epic Games as it is.
@@fastmadcow I'm not oblivious to the info you have given me. I am not comparing the hate towards the issues that plague rocket league, and psyonix, I was only comparing it to the mode itself which objectively does have some good things going for it if they keep keyword Keep evolving it over seasons. For a game mode within a game as huge as fortnite it's not bad. There is plenty understanding to be mad about everything else, but personally I don't want to soil the reputation of what could turn out to be a very enjoyable racing mode. This is me coming from a fan of Fortnite, where as I try to keep the part where I'm a fan of rocket league seperate. To admit it's hard for me since it has the rocket league branding on it, which is why I think Epic should have introduced a racing mode that WASNT rocket league related, but maybe they had a rocket league Collab or something. Because I agree, this has caused Rocket league to suffer. But that's exactly how I view it, it doesn't cause Fortnite to suffer, at least not as far as we know as Yesterday Fortnite yet again hit an all time peak (not counting the day of the event). I keep my hate for when I'm playing rocket league specifically. And maybe I'm wrong. But I'm feeling slightly optimistic knowing that we finally got some communication from rocket league today. I'm not saying it means much but that's all we asked for. Just some communication, and they gave it us. Even if it was vague
Hard to separate the two when the branding is the same. It is a different game though and just upset that the game I play the most suffered becuase of it. I’m not downloading Fortnite to play this so I can’t say if it plays well or not. Only go off of what I see a what I personally enjoy from racing games. Of course what this has also done to my game. Am I biased? fuck yeah I am. But if people enjoy this part of the game then I shouldn’t take that away from them. I can only just let my opinion be heard.
I wish the mechanics were the same as RL. Maybe dashing would be super OP, but that's the beauty of the RL skill ceiling, and it wouldn't ruin lower ranks.
Made it to the top .1% of the ranked pool and people are already finding crazy shortcuts and exploits to drop their times. It gets crazy up there. And the advanced maps are insane!
I always wanted a racing game mode in RL, but I wanted it IN RL. I want to race in my highly customized pre-sets and maybe use rumble powerups on the track. I still might try this out to see how it compares to other racing games, but I really hope that they can add cross platform inventories, demolitions and items to this mode to really round it out and make it more like real rocket league!
I just cant seem to find a reason for them removing trading in RL , how tf it has to do with this game mode in fortnite.. it didnt even convert the items u had in RL, and even if it did why do they need to remove trading from RL? they could just convert the items to fortnite and kept the trading, i just dont get what it has to do with eachother, other than an excuse for them to remove trading for the real reason that is to make more money from people buying the items they want in RL in the shop instead of trading with other people to get it
12:55, I saw a video where the guy said something similar with the fortnite festival, in that fortnite with these game modes can be entryways to the other games like rocket league and rock band, and other games. Which is a really cool thing.
This just looks like Mario Kart without shells. It just feels so shallow. With all the other racing games out there, I cannot imagine investing significant time in this. Epic has something that is unique and fun in Rocket League. Easy to play, difficult to master, tons of depth in gameplay. It just feels like they're throwing all of that out for this
It felt criminal to not have at least tried rocket racing, but I think it's a hard thing to view this separate from rocket league. There needs to be a lot more fleshing out of mechanics and failure systems to maintain a 'racing' feel imo. Hopefully there comes a much more refined/intentional design philosophy to the maps etc. because anaconda feels really good and they've tried to make long twisting tracks (like trackmania 'full speed') . *While taking a huge hit of cope* I would like to see this hopefully get mirrored in to rocket league as a workshop thing? That would be pretty cool, or just to see the resources come back in to rocket league for season 14 to rejuvenate the game. I think we all knew deep down this wasn't going to be freestyling on a racetrack or anywhere near as intense mechanically. Which is probably a good thing, but I see the rocket league community just dropping in on updates or never again, and the fortnite community will continue their fortniting. When it's good, it plays well and flows, but the racing isn't being highlighted the way I think it needs to. i.e: winding maps and smoother mechanics. P.S. LET US AT LEAST WAVEDASH IN RACING. It's too engrained in muscle memory.
Predicting now that they’ll add rocket league racing challenges in fortnite that unlock cosmetics to use in rocket league too. So people will hop on the racing as a chore to get the items
While the game-mode is fun I feel that we need something like power-ups but I think the price for the diesel car is crazy, like I know you get all the colours but most of the times the players only use one or 2 of them.
I think some power up mode is maybe planned because there was supposedly a leak about that, now if that's true or accurate I don't know but I wouldn't be suprised if they added a power up mode with the rumble powers one day
It's a Fornite Racing game with Rocket League aethetic vehicles, and reminds me a lot of Mario Kart. I think there is fun to be had in this game, but if you're expecting it to feel like Rocket League... there is a reason it's in Fortnite, not Rocket League. Well, there are a few reasons, like Fortnite being a much larger playerbase for one. But yeah, it's an arcade racing game, it looks pretty, more polish and it's probably fun to smash with some friends in some evenings. Take it for what it is. But it's not Rocket League.
I'm so pissed that it's not a standalone game or one more related to RL than Fortnite. It's of course to attract Fortnite players because it's one click instead of a download away. And they re-use a lot of assets from Fortnite to speed up the development... It's obvious they want to get as much money for the least effort, because it's problematic to re-write RL in UE5 and too hard to develop in UE3
the way they stopped development for the live game to make something that’ll sell more cars/ give an excuse to remove trading reminds me of overwatch 2 and how the devs abandoned the original game for years to remove the free rewards system and replace it with a shop.
Epic wants the money, the recognition and the playerbase of Rocket League. The game itself isn't worth anything to them. It's not inside their fortnite game, so they know, it's harder to grow communities for seperate games. That's why they took that look of rl and made something to put inside fortnite. It's all about making fortnite the game of all games, the only game you need. They are looking forward to some Ready Player one dystopian stuff.
I remember a double painted weekend or whatever those were called and traded a bunch of my stuff in and pulled a TW octane. Haven’t stopped using it since, the fact it’s uncommon now is hilarious!
Also, this game has notorious hit detection. Sometimes the checkpoints don't see you cross and send you back to the last point, and theres parts on the road that just force you back cause the game felt you hit the force field.
I think it is dumb that rocket league players thought this was going to be like their game. Because it is not, this game was supposed to be a combined racing mode
It looks like the hoops of Rocket League. A fun, more chill game mode that you can play when you’re a bit tired of playing the main game. So they slowed Rocket league development for a game mode for a game that (at least for now) has not much to it
when i figured out high speeds with big drifts were the way i was like yes please . use boosts on long straights where speeds fall and keep gaining speeds from drifts even if you get behind first corner for the big drift you fly by the next
Im platinum 2 now and i can say the tracks get more advanced later in rank more obstacles way more shortcuts to take in courses i just learned some i didnt even know about as they were off road more flipping onto walls and ceilings tunnels that get tougher to gain speed on in later courses
I still feel like if they wanted rocket league racing, they needed to make it around rocket league not another game, that way they’re using the physics everyone knows and loves. This to me is fortnight racing with rocket league skins. They also missed an opportunity, but they still can do it, to make tracks based around RL maps, then you could have an arena in the background where a “match” is going on.
Honestly... I wanted to get to gold, but when I hit Silver 2, I just couldn't play anymore. Boring, repetitive (if it were more fun, that would be ok), and the overall things you get for ranking up and just playing in general are not worth it. Rocket League also missed their chance at making money by not bringing back the Lamborghini for purchase. People would have bought it so they can use it in Fortnite.
Also, I just changed my button configuration to what I use in Rocket League. Definitely felt better. I recommend that if you're going to try this game.
Its hilarious how they promised that youd be able to use your Rocket League items in Fornite for Rocket Racing, but yet you're limited to like 5 cars and just the basic decals. I wouldnt have traded away ny Jaeger set back in 2020 had I known this was gonna be the case.
Yea they fired most of the Psyonix team. It's been confirmed by former employees that 1-2 people are left for marketing, and legal respectively and the team was spread so thin between rocket league and rocket racing that they had no talent for making promotional content for rocket leagues new items or season. Former employees described it as a skeleton crew that was left behind, and that Epic isn't allowing them to talk about anything unless allowed by Epic's team. What this says to me is that soon the psyonix team with be a single dev and a PR person and that will be it. I don't expect Epic to give a damn about the original game anymore now that they ported what they wanted over to fortnite. fuck 'em.
I feel like Rocket Racing is a missed opportunity. There was a game for the ps2, called Rumble Racing, that had pickups like freeze, tornado, boxing glove, etc,. All of which are already used in RL rumble. To gain boost you would land flips. If they took Rumble Racing format and merged rocket league mechanics/control, that game would be dope imo
By the lack of individuality to this game, I really feel like this was an Epic Games project and idea that they put the RL devs on when they clearly wanted nothing to do with it. It feels so lackluster and has nothing to set it apart from the racing genre, and I think the Devs didn’t give this the touch they did RL because they didn’t have the same enthusiasm to this idea/model.
If I wanted to play a racing game, I'd play forza or trackmania. If I wanted to play an arcade racing game, I'd play Mario kart, burnout paradise, need for speed and honestly I'd sooner play a Roblox racing game before I touch this again 💀
At first it was weird of course because I thought it was gonna have at least the same default controls and physics of rocket league but then it only took a few matches (literally three) for it to feel completely natural. I played ranked for for quite a while to get gold to get that skin which won't take long at all if you get first place every time like me 😝 I got scared suddenly that it might ruin me at rocket league so I got on and played just how I normally would and it felt completely natural and I wasn't playing any different at all. So I played rocket league for a bit just to make sure by hitting all the mechanical freestyles in casuals and I never flipped the wrong way or flew like you do in Rocket Racing. Then after quite a while I switched back to Rocket racing and again a flawless transition where I got on and nothing had changed for me at all mechanically. Anyone worrying about this, don't worry. I feel like the two games are so far apart that you're brain won't mix them up especially with the different binds and maybe if you use a car other than the octane or any other car you might use in Rocket League.
When RL sideswipe came out I said “this looks like a game I’ll play a couple games of and be like that was kinda cool and never touch it again” and I did just that. Here we go again.
i feel you on that, but since it’s a mobile game i do occasionally hop on just for fun, bonus if i have a friend next to me. i’m just glad sideswipe didn’t steal developers lol well they probably did but it didn’t make that much of an impact i think
Fortnite players thinking "oh I'm gonna go try Rocket league" Then getting pissed off when they realise they can't hit the ball and they keep landing on their roof 😅
