I am a Sunfish sailor, and while I am not in the market for a new boat, I can see the advantages of your design, but I don’t see it as really being in direct competition with the SF. The SF is really more of a race platform, and there it excels (mainly due to the huge number of SF out there). I view the Rocket as more of a family recreation boat. I see a lot of potential in it as an “Adventure Cruiser” used to explore areas larger boats can’t get to (as featured on the “Adventures in Reach” RU-vid channel). It would be nice to see it outfitted with a hatch for storage, shock cords for holding a kayak paddle in place, and a more flexible sail rig that could be reefed. I heard rumors of a future expedition model. I’ll be interested in seeing what you come up with! At any rate, thank you for bringing some innovation to a class that has stagnated for a while.
You say that the single hex ratchet can be upgraded with a cleating mechanism so you don’t need to always hold the main sheet under light winds. What is the cleating mechanism you use?
You certainly cannot buy a NOT MADE IN USA Laser Performance Sunfish for pocket change and good luck getting one before 2024. And nice, productive comment there, guy.
Sure, you can also buy a used car vs a new car, but some people like something new and innovative. Used sailboats can certainly be found in expensively and it’s a great way to start in the hobby… that’s what I did.
@@stevelovescars Innovative is a foiling sunfish with a wing. This is just overpriced shlock from the company that brought us the slowest foiling cat in existence.
Jay why don't you show us all the boat you designed and built? Or do you not have enough room to do that in your Mom's basement. Wait, does your Mom still talk to you? She must be so proud.
