Since we are doing Dune, why not the Paradox men? Or the greatest space adventure of all time, the legion of space! For my first rocket summer book I read the Skylark of Space, and it blew my mind! Particularly the middle, the space opera planet at the end was a bit more flash gordon then I would have liked, still cool, ordered all the sequels… I thought I might add here some of my favourite obscure scifi and practically none of it was published before 70 (or after the early 80s)! How about some Brian Stableford? He just recently passed away unfortunately, he has an incredible bibliography, and translated god knows how much French sf and fantasy… he wrote my favourite bad sf, to challenge chaos, the dies irae trilogy, realm of tartarus, and lots of much better sf (but after the 70s!)

I've read Slan numerous times and enjoyed it each time. I guess I don't look for the same thing in a story that you do Steve. I hope you get more enjoyment from your next choice!

I read The World of NullA by van Vogt and this sounds quite similar

I'm curious to hear your picks for Jules Verne, I read 20,000 leagues under the sea recently and loved it. I'm eager to dive into another one of his novels.

As a kid i thought Van Voigt’s prose was radically exciting…and in my few rereads, I feel the opposite…he seems to be clueless about coherent prose…I’ve become afraid to reread more.

SLAN is better than _any_ Star Trek novel. It is a classic that is worth reading.
