Well, it's a reading event on the older classic science fiction--1800's to 1969, with the first week being 1800's to 1939, so I'm only talking about older books in this first video. 🚀

Hi Pat! I love this video (and your thumbnail) and I love that you're beginning to love science fiction to the point that you're co-hosting a science fiction Booktube event! Science fiction uses science and technology to explore what it means to be human. Contrary to what many people may think, and as I said in the comments of your Star Trek video, good science fiction (whether it has human characters or not) is really about what it means to be human and is sometimes more authentic in it's depiction of "human -ness" than "realistic" fiction. You have a great Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter paperback collection! Edgar Rice Burroughs also created the character of Tarzan. I had no idea Mary Shelley wrote another science fiction novel other than Frankenstein so I'm definitely adding The Last Man to my TBR as well as The Future is Female! anthologies you showed us. I look forward to watching more of your Rocket Summer videos!

@@purplepumpkin6894 thank you, as always, for this very thoughtful comment. And, of course, you are absolutely right about science fiction helping us to understand aspects of our humanity. I’m very new to the genre, but I bring a certain level of enthusiasm, I guess. 🚀🥰

Wow Pat I’m not a big fan of sci-fi but your book collection has given me serious book envy I’d love to own some serious classics like those. I would love to find more sci-fi that draws me in I don’t know if it’s me or just the genre but I’ll keep trying. Anything dystopian seems to match my tastes so I’m going to look for the last man by Mary Shelly her Frankenstein is a classic after all. So cool I’d love to join I just don’t know that I can be that rigid with my reading haha 😂

Okay, not to offend you. But, to trip you out - there was sci fi book written in 1896 called Baron Trump. You can not make this up! Their ancestors owned the land that the Bedminster Golf ⛳️ course is on. he novels recount the adventures of the German boy Wilhelm Heinrich Sebastian Von Troomp, who goes by "Baron Trump", as he discovers weird underground civilizations, offends the natives, flees from his entanglements with local women, and repeats this pattern until arriving back home at Castle Trump
