Looks like an awesome day some cabezon and lingcods! That's awesome man. I recently got a couple bucks and limited out for the season I didn't get down to Fort Hunter Liggett but still got some tasty venison. made a video too.

Cool stuff, the one time I went jetty fishing so far it was mad windy and the ocean I was near was like a vicious washing machine, I had no idea how to even try to catch anything and failed miserably. But, as I watch you guys I see I was at a bad jetty or bad weather day or something haha. This looks much more doable. I am going for round 2 this coming weekend as it will be in the 90's in Oregon, going to buy a small tent and overnight at a campground for a cheap vacation =P, wish me luck brother! (any tips wouldbe appreciated, brand new, but I have done a fair amount of trout fly fishing). Some baits, lures, and basic setups would be nice to hear of too! I am going to make a list of some surf perch/rockfish baits, although, a lot of them seem like the bass lures I have lol. One last thing, I am gonna try surf fishing, but I aint gonna wade in there! Sharks be scary...
@offtherocksfishing_officia974
Most trout gear well do well for rockfishing, I would try a Texas rig for lures and or dropper loop knot set up for bait…if it’s washy use a heavier weight and try to keep it close to the bottom….let us know how you do

@@offtherocksfishing_officia974 What kind of weights would you expect? I am camping at the exact same spot as you, it just happened that way as my buddy could only do sunday and monday and everything got booked up haha. From what I saw you use a disc shaped weight that is probably twice the weight of anything I have used in rivers so far, lol. Basically, if you could give me a noob setup to roll with I would appreciate it =P hitting cabelas before I head out to pick anything up that might be good, including the sand worms! Buddy is completely new to it too haha, so I'm sure you will get his prayers as well if you oblige ;) last edit* no worries if I asked too many questions and you don't want to deal with it haha, I won't hold it against ya brother!
@offtherocksfishing_officia974
@@SometimesTurtle we use a 1oz egg sinker for most days and 1.5oz if it’s rough, for bait we used 3 or 4oz torpedoes, torpedoes have a slim profile that’ll help navigate through the kelp…also remember sometimes the big ones are right at your feet!!

@@offtherocksfishing_officia974 Haha sick man, yeah I am way too excited like a kid before christmas, thanks for that extra info! Maybe sometime if you happen to be out there at the same time we could link up and you could show me a thing or two! =P

The kelp makes sense, same as bass fishing, and lastly, on your at your feet comment, the only monster bass I ever caught was after a day of failing and then at the very end as I angrily reeled it in super fast I got popped by some like 10lb or so bass literally on the bank I was standing and no sooner, lol...the guy across the pond was just staring and instantly starting trying to get to me but it wasn't easy to get where I was >< and I for once felt like a pro.

What can I do to avoid snags on the rocks or see weed?
@offtherocksfishing_officia974
What works for me is I use a texas rig and when you feel rocks or seaweed pull back soft so you’re not setting your hook into the seaweed or rocks. If I do get snagged. I usually let some line go, and wait after a few waves and try retrieving again that usually get me out of a snag. I hope this helps

googd video. Question, what is the best month of the year to fish the coast?
@offtherocksfishing_officia974
Thank you!! For the best months I’d say August through October. Best days are the days where there’s no wind and a low tidal coefficient🤙🏼

@@offtherocksfishing_officia974 thank you so much. I've been watching your video for awhile and I've been itched to go and try but don't real know when is the best month of the year, and where to go.
@offtherocksfishing_officia974
You’re welcome! I mean the fish are out there year round, I’d say just go on a day thats not too windy (7 mph winds are max for me) and low tidal coefficients and you will have some success 🤙🏼

I would not recommend this spot for beginners look up state parks, those are some nice places to start off rockfishing 🤙🏼

do colors generally matter for rockfish? Like do they prefer certain colors depending on water visibility?
@offtherocksfishing_officia974
@offtherocksfishing_officia974 2 года назад
These are the colors that work for us, in murky water gulp grubs in salmon red, new penny and orange tiger ; clear water I tend to go with keitechs in either green pumpkin or black. Hope this helps 🤙🏼
