Join me on a nostalgic trip down memory lane as I revisit the wild days of the Sunset Strip! 🎸 In this video, I show off two relics from my time playing in the iconic band "Shock and the Night and Day Horns." First up is my legendary leather motorcycle jacket, a pawn shop treasure from Brother's Collateral, that got an unforgettable makeover at "Art To The Bone," a famous tattoo shop on Hollywood Blvd. 🏍️✨
I’ll share the backstory behind this unique jacket, including how our lead singer Jamie had it airbrushed to perfection. Plus, I’ll reveal an issue of Rock City News where we made the cover and share some amazing band photos from those electric nights on the Strip. 📸🤘
Don't miss this chance to relive the glory days of 80s rock in LA - a time of big dreams, bigger hair, and the unforgettable sounds of the Sunset Strip! If you're a fan of rock history, vintage style, or just a great story, hit play and come along for the ride. 🎤

Awesome jacket. Ha, ha! Groovy! Cool artifacts of the LA, mid-late '80s, post-New Wave music scene. Somebody needs to start a museum of these pieces. Out in Phoenix we've got the MIM (Musical Instrument Museum). Somebody needs to advocate for a section in the museum on Rock and Roll period pieces like those mags, jackets & guitars. Too cool...

Yeah I agree....Would be cool to preserve this stuff somewhere. Well if I build this channel maybe somebody will have my stuff one day....

Our drummer played in a country-western band early in his career. They were well known in our section of the country. As their popularity rose, the band leader decided it was time to get matching stage cloths. He found a sponsor; cloths were ordered and were actually quite well done. So, they had matching Stetson hats, neck bandanas, fringed shirts with sequined designs, same design with the pants, and matching leather boots. It is what you would expect to see on a country band from the mid-sixties. However, there was a price to be paid. From the front they looked like a normal country band. On the back of the shirts (in large letters), the sponsor wanted the name of his business: AUTCO Transmission Service. I guess you do what you to have to do. I wouldn't have gone that far. Our drummer was glad to be on drums, so he always stayed face forward to the crowd.

Actually, maybe they should have changed the name of the band AUTCO Transmission Service. Still has that country feel to it.

Was in my 2nd Shitville, uh,..I mean, Nashville😅 garage band in '88. We never played outside city, but I rode "Freestyle BMX" & did cross-country "Just Say No" tours (usually high af!😅) at shopping malls, skating rinks, summer camps, juvenile detention centers😅, etc. One of my sponsors was Haro bikes. Spent my 17th birthday & summer of '88 in Southern Cal, specifically San Diego, but I did wander up to the Strip a few times. But after my GOAT band Van Halen started playing toy piano in '84 I went Hardcore, so Hair Metal was no longer my thang. I didn't really get to see any big or good shows, like "Shock"😅, but caught 7 Seconds, a "drug-free" punk band, at a keg party in "The Valley". Damn, Brad. You not so Bad today!😅 So great to see you smile as you tell your journey. Still new here, but guess we getting hit with the Flashback today? Well all i can say is, as you so eloquently alluded to the other day with your shakey cam walk vid😅, no matter how fukd things may seem or be right now, never forget THESE ARE STILL "THE DAYS"!!! Love & Party accordingly friends! Thanks again, Brad. Rock On! 🤘🌎❤️

I love your stories and it always makes me think back to what we used to do. I always loved the DIY marketing our bands used to do back in the day. I was the “artist” in the band so naturally I was tasked with designing our flyers and promo material. I can remember creating ‘skrims’ - the panels that stood in front of the amps to give the stage a clean and interesting look - in my mother’s driveway. We’d change our stage plot every year with different ramps and towers of what we called ‘blinders’ which blinded the audience every time they lit up. Bands even developed DIY ‘fog blasters’ where you’d flood the underneath of a drum riser with smoke and then kick on a furnace blower/fan pointed towards the ceiling and it ‘blasted’ smoke at light speed up in the air. It worked best when the singer or guitarist was standing over it with their hair blowing straight up with the smoke. 😂 Great dramatic effect. Being from Northeast Ohio I was lucky enough to have a close friend who worked at Geffen. He always sent me BAM, Rock City News, and another publication that escapes me at the moment. I was connected to the LA scene via a proxy in my friend. Another perk was hearing bands before the rest of the world did. Most were one-and-done bands such as D.A.D. (Disneyland After Dark), Nevermore, King of the Hill, etc. but hearing Alice In Chains for the first time was a treat. Rock-n-Roll will never be the same as it once was in those days. 😢

We could have sure used your talents out in L.A....some bands had bigger shows but most did not. Problem was we were all broke.

BC Rich made some nice stuff back in the 70s when Derringer was playing them. They obviously went to some cheaper manufacturing scheme. It sounds like the wood wasn't cured enough.

B.C. Rich "Gunslinger" guitars 🎸 (newer versions) go from $600 used to $1500-ish new... to $6500 for a limited edition custom shop with the Nagel (artist who did Duran Duran album cover... think "Rio"...)
