I have made an initial review video and you might want to watch that before swapping out your redshift stem for the Rudy or another gravel fork as I think my thoughts will apply to most of what is out there.
@@MongoDan thanks! I was concerned about the high frequency chatter damping. Might just keep the stem, since I'm USUALLY pretty good on watching out for ruts. :)
@@douggroves908 I'm going to order a redshift stem this week and see if it will get me what I am looking for. I went with the Rudy first because I got a pretty good deal.
@@MongoDan it's tricky. I love the Redshift stem for cobblestone and gravel. Great at killing fatigue, but my riding is getting JUST gnarly enough where a fork might be better... but I don't want to sacrifice the day to day benefits, and no room for a 3rd bike :D
I believe all Rudy forks come with an alloy steerer, moving to carbon with save minimal weight and increase the cost quite a bit. The Rockshox SID forks had carbon steer/crown units, but they moved away from that for the above reasons. With the steerer, I do think they are offering OEMs other size options, but all the aftermarket ones I have seen are taper 1-1/8 to 1-1/2.
It's not important for people with normal size gravel bike, but us tall guys appreciate it with our XXL (61cm+) gravel bikes or gravel bikes with longer head tubes to give a more upright position (more stack) to make the bike more comfortable. Looks like this might be a good topic for a future video.
I know it have been a while and I am working on the follow up video. I was waiting on a new brake hose and fittings to install the new fork and as soon as I got those the weather took a nose dive for a few weeks 🙄. Today was actually the first day I could get the bike out on a short ride. Not to jump the gun or spoil the video as I do truly need more time on it to say much of anything, but I will say it's "interesting" and definitely worthy of a deeper review.
@@HughDWallace I have not yet. It is something I am planning for this winter but haven't been able to get out on the bike nearly as much as I would have liked due to the weather and work travel. Look for some follow up in about 6 weeks time weather permitting.
