Was happy to see this video pop up on my feed! My favourite Rockstar game by far, still holds up so well. Lionel Starkweather is one of the best antagonists in gaming history, Brian Cox an absolute genius as his voice actor.
It's moreso the case of them being afraid of another goddamn nigh-coup happening in the dev team (yes, this happened, the dev team almost rebelled management during the development of MH1), and the failure of MH2
I watched your video on Rockstar games and it’s kind of opened up my world massively. I was one of those people who only played GTA V online but I’m actually going to try the definitive edition of GTA and play the originals.
It's going to be a hard sell to get manhunt back. This game not just infamous whole world over. But even the devs who made the game were uncomfortable making it. (It's mostly got to do with the tone like gta is more light hearted affair with even if it goes serious it's not meant to be dark) Not saying it isn't impossible. It can be made in this day and age look at game like kane and lynch 2 for example or hotline miami. Game like manhunt is more what we need for true horror survival experience where we aren't just prey. But back to what i said in beginning as much as we ask rockstar Many times and beg many times more. It wont happen because they want the money (like all things nowadays) always about money especially since gta 5 gave them billions in a short amount of time. 6 will give them maybe even more money and i did say maybe since it's a chance small one where it fails.
Yeah even if they did want to bring back Manhunt it would be really tuff if not impossible to get over some hurdles. It would almost certainly get a A.O rating which would basically doom it right there and then. All the console makers have basically gotten together and agreed to block any A.O titles from releasing on their platforms. First manhunt released when there was no A.O rating in the U.S but the freaking hot coffer mod of all things in GTA SA caused an uproar and the A.O rating was born. That a mod (not possible normally in game) for a game was the reason they had to change ratings is still pretty wild and forever a part of gaming history. Manhunt 2 had to do a lot of censorship to get to M not that the gore alone is what makes the game but with how good graphics are these days? It would just be really hard to make a game that does the series justice without watering it way down to reach an M rating. They could go PC only but I get a feeling that that wouldn't be a worthwhile endeavor for R* these days. Would really take a indie dev or independent developer that somehow gets hands on the IP to get it done. R* is probably never gonna let the IP go though and will probably never use it either a shame.
