Very nice tour and thanks for the way you handled it, adding subtitles. They look like a really responsible manufacturer and their attention to detail and thoroughness is commendable. Honestly a full tour of a couple completed trailers would have been nice to see it all come together but I guess you could hit a dealer for that. Great job all!

Wondering why you didn't show any of the welding, aluminum joint construction, or how well the wall/floor/roof sections are built. IMO, poor welds are just as bad as sticks and staples. Thanks for all the work you did putting this together.
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
Hi @Paul Buehler! I didn't show these things due to a couple factors: All the welding & fabrication of aluminum framing is done at sub-assembly plants that I didn't tour. Likewise, the wall/floor/roof assemblies are constructed in the lamination plant. The tour I was on was public and it moved right along. We didn't linger at any one station for long. From my experience and that of other owners, the framing and laminations of the Geo/E Pro are solid & reliable. Thanks for the question!

A lot of negative talk from people watching, I appreciate the video and I realize that the RV world is trying to make it light weight and cheaper so your going to have a few issues but that’s with all travel trailers.
@weatherherk1

Forrest River might want to put in some extra time making sure the nuts are torque per spec on the bolts that hold the body to the frame of the Geo Pro. I found 4 ea that were loose and found out this is a common issue.
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 4 года назад
weatherherk1 I’m hearing it’s a common problem as well. I’m not sure more torque will fix the problem though. There’s only so much torque you can put on those before they start to crush the wood. I suspect a long term fix will be using self locking nuts. 🧡Thanks for watching & commenting!💙
@tommyz9192
@tommyz9192 4 года назад
@@CrowdFreeRV I had this problem as well. Did you get a visual look at how the 12 bolts underneath (2019 19FBS) are connected to the frame? What backs them up? I had a couple nuts fall off, then the bolts actually started spinning/stripping when you try to tighten them. My dealer added a few bolts/nuts through the floor of the camper after it was obvious the body of the camper had slipped/moved forward on the frame.
@josephfolsom2030
@josephfolsom2030 3 года назад
@@CrowdFreeRV What they should do is use steel plating on the floor( maybe 4”x 4”x 1/4”) and run regular bolts through them instead of carriage bolts and use a nyloc style of nut to attach the chassis to the frame. Much more surface area so the bolt won’t pull through the floor when tightened down.

Hi there great video by the way. We were heavily set on the Winnebago 2100bh for a bit extra cargo weight and also because we’ve been informed Winnebago has good quality but after watching this we are definitely putting the geo pro as a strong contender and very likely our New first Travel trailer for my spouse and two children. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

Victoria M thanks for your kind & encouraging words! . The Geo & the Winnie are both great units with unique strengths & weaknesses. Take your time, really think about what you will be doing with your trailer and what’s important to you, then look at each feature of each unit and ask yourself how it fits within your needs. For example - we recently bought the Geo Pro 20BHS. We love it and would likely choose it again. However, we really wish the bath & kitchen were more like the Winnie. In the Geo, we would get rid of the tub, put in a narrower shower, making more room in the kitchen for a larger refrigerator & sink. We’ll survive with the smaller Geo fridge, but the tiny sink is going to be really tough! . I wish you all the best with your purchase decision & future travels! I’d love it if you would check back in & let me know what you buy! ~ Ben

As someone who worked in a manufacturing environment with ISO 9001 quality systems, I can tell you this factory is the exact opposite of a quality-focused environment. Modern factories are incredibly clean and organized (nothing is out of place). There are many tools and jigs assisting the employees with perfect repeatable quality installation at every step of the way. Notice how the lady was just free from slapping on graphics or how they guy screwing in the slide was just holding his screw gun at random angles and reaching? This factory appears very unorganized with almost all completely manual processes and no tooling or assembly jigs. A modern factory also has quality control at every step. Not just at the end. I.E. them orange taping issues or the guy quickly caulking a leak. This is about what I expected and I’m sure it differs little from other lower or mid-priced mfrs out there. You can see this and know there’s a ton of room for human error or stuff slipping through. That’s just the RV trailer market as a whole though. Not trying to single out Rockwood. I do overall like their Geo Pro. I just wouldn’t expect much more than any of the other common name brands out there.

Mike Wiebe 👋 hello sir! Having worked in manufacturing & aerospace for 7 years myself, I understand exactly what you are saying and agree with your assessments. I bought a Rockwood Geo Pro at the beginning of this year and just returned from its initial shakedown trip of about 5,000 miles. This is my third travel trailer and I am thrilled with the progress the industry has made. I’ll attempt to briefly elaborate: If I could sum up your comment into one sentence it would be “RVs have been and still are sloppily assembled”. My Geo Pro is consistent with what I saw at the factory tour - it is indeed sloppily assembled. However, the advancements in some materials and methods make a tremendous difference - Because of Azdel & vacuum bonded walls I will never have delamination. Because of the welded aluminum framing I will never have the structure rot. Because of the Torflex axle I don’t have wear points at the springs & shackles. Because of the welded aluminum interior structure & “screw & glue” cabinetry, my interior isn’t falling apart after 5000 miles. Because of the arched roof trusses I never have constant standing water on the roof making my roof seals go bad. Etc, etc, etc... . So yes, the industry has so much room for improvement, but there is also much to be celebrated. I’m going to do an initial quality review of my G20BHS soon and I’ll share the good, bad & ugly. Thanks for watching & commenting sir. It’s much appreciated!

This is a very nice rig and I am considering buying one. It looks like they are taking advantage of some new technology but, there are some things I would like to see. 1. A dehumidifier. Cooking with propane, normal breathing and camping in humid areas produces humidity in the coach. There are some newer dehumidifiers that could be built in. 2. An on demand propane water heater in lieu of the electric/propane water heater. Very efficient, less space, less weight. 3. Two 30 pound LP tanks 4. Switch to LiFePo4 batteries. A bit more expensive but lighter and better performance. 5 . Better wire control on roof for solar. Evil trees will reach down and snag those wires. 6. Roof rails to mount things such as satellite and radio antennas, weather station components. 7. Full underbelly protection. Mice and squirrels are the enemy of RVs.

I am a future first time buyer and am looking at a number of travel trailers including the Rockwood Geo Pro. I understand the manufacturing process and understand that these trailers need constantan monitoring. However, looking at the online reviews I see way too many negative out of the dealer yard experiences. I know that you would expect more negative than positive, because satisfied people have less to complain about. But goes to show that most of the RV industry is not keeping their eye on QC, leaving it up to the buyer and dealer to do the QC. I guess buyer beware is really important.
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
Hi @g Dan! I have two answers, one short and one long. . The short - Yes, buyer beware is very appropriate for RV’s. Both for choosing a rig and choosing a dealer. . The long - Historically many RV manufacturers have sent units out the door with known problems. They relied on the dealers to make things right. Some dealers did there best do right by the customer and others didn’t. Based upon my limited knowledge of a vast industry, there are manufacturers who are doing their best to do better; to put a “right” product out the door. And there are dealers out there who have high standards of what they will accept from the manufacturers and the level of support that is offered after delivery. It’s up to the customer to find the best dealer and the best rig for their needs. . Sadly there are dealers out there who only care about making the sale. And then there are those dealers who are so big that customers get lost trying to navigate “the system” after the sale. . In my opinion, Forest River is trying to step things up within the Rockwood lineup and put out a quality rig. Please understand there are many brands under the Forest River umbrella which I know nothing about. . Another brand I like is Keystone. They try to put out a good product, and among full timers the Montana lineup has a cult following. I’m sure there are other quality brands out there, I’m just not knowledgeable of them. . I hope this little bit of info will help you in your search for a new rig! Thanks for watching & commenting!

I have the 12srk and have enjoyed it thus far. Only minor things, added a switched porch light..the only way to turn it off before that was to open up the rear kitchen. I also added an additional solar panel, funny thing the side connection for the additional panel needs to have a charge controller on the added panel even though the onboard charge controller could handle it. I plan to rewire that. The A/C is huge for the size and useless when boon-docking..I would have preferred a smaller unit and maybe a 12v big fan. I tow it behind my Jeep and have had it down some rough roads, so far she’s holding up. I enjoy the creature comforts this little trailer has when full connections are available but rough country camping is why I bought it. Similarly purpose built trailers are 3x as much. I am afraid if the screws start backing out of the micro wave I may leave on a dirt road somewhere but I keep an eye out, may just pull it for the space. Bottom line, happy with camper and would buy again.

👋 Hello @rambokd! Great to hear from you. I think what you have stated about the cost is one of the biggest factors for choosing the Geo Pro. Better built units are out there but at a factor of 2x or 3x the cost. You are the first comment I’ve had from someone pulling a 12srk behind a Jeep. It’s great to hear that it’s holding up! Appreciate the tip on the aux solar panel. I hadn’t heard the before and like you would have assumed the interior solar panel would handle it. I think I’ll get a suitcase unit with built in controller. Thanks for watching & commenting!

Watching the madness in the factory explained all the extra hardware I found in my trailer. At first I thought there were screws coming loose but there must have been a dozen extra screws. I pulled all my access panels to see how everything was routed and connected. The external solar plug runs directly to the battery through a circuit breaker, in my case along the front driver side rail. I had to contact forest river because of the issue with the solar and they were kind enough to send me the wiring diagram. I currently have a y connection on the existing roof panel, but plan to run new wire down from the controller. The batteries, I have 2, have not dropped below 80% with normal use to include some gas furnace use on cold nights. I added a rear awning so I can close my kitchen but still have rain protection for my table and chairs. If you leave your kitchen open little bandits will worry you to death. Funny coincidence, our first night in it was next to another Epro owner on his first trip. He had the 19ft version and the Bluetooth app to control your stereo doesn’t care which system you connect to...his radio woke up earlier than he did, I thought mine was broken.

Garland Style I agree! That’s one part of the industry which I’ve never been a fan of. One thing I did notice though, is it felt like they have a voluntary culture of hustle. I’ve seen a lot of manufacturing where people are driven and pushed by management. The culture is typically poisoned by this tactic. What it looked to me like here was the workers were happily choosing to hustle. Likely they are incentivized by cost/output goals. In my opinion that counts for something. But I also wish they would add a greater quality incentive so they would slow it down a few notches and improve build quality even more. Thanks for watching & commenting!

Since you visited the factory, did you get any better idea about how specifically the solar panels were mounted? Are they just screwing the aluminum mounts into the foam? Im looking to add the extension gopher panel and would like to mimic the construction method of the manufacturer. Thank you,
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
Hi @Todd Sheehy! It was the older version 100 watt flexible panel being installed when I toured the factory. It’s now a 180 watt hard panel now and I haven’t seen the installation of it. I would assume the aluminum brackets are screwed to the plywood roof decking. Normally roof sealant is applied to the bottom of the panel brackets and the screws will have sealant applied on the threads as they are installed, and then both are sealed on top as a final step. Rockwood does have a Support tab on their website for questions like this. And you might be able to gain some info in the FROG forums. Hope this helps!!

Doubleu I believe you’re referring to the installation of the slide out? The fact that they are driving in the fasteners without drilling pilot holes and the fact they aren’t sealing every fastener which penetrates the exterior is troubling to me as well. The slide out structure & mechanism has been something I have kept an eye on with the Geo Pro which I bought, a 2020, 20BHS. So far both the structure and the operation have been perfect after 6000+ miles of travel across 11 states. If you choose another brand which fits you better, I encourage you to take a factory tour before purchasing. From what I’ve seen all brands which compete at a similar price point use similar manufacturing practices. Thanks for watching & commenting and I wish you all the best with your RV search!

Awesome video! Just purchased a 2019 Geo Pro 19fbs. today. I had my reservations about taking this big step but this video has taken away any doubts in my mind about my purchase. I almost purchased this camper two years ago but I didn't. I purchased another brand instead. After having so much water damage and many other issues, I am glad I came back. I had a black and white retro floor. Maybe you know the manufacture. Hint, hint!

Thank you for the video. Did you happen to have any discussion with them on reasoning for single axle vs dual axle? Can you tell me how it feels to go from a dual axle trailer to a single axle trailer. Thank you
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
Hi @HY Y! The reasoning they stated when I took the tour is they are ultralight trailers and one of their original goals was to keep every model under 3000 lbs dry weight. In 2020, with the G20BHS at 3400 lbs dry, they exceeded their 3K benchmark for the first time. So yeah, the short answer is keeping them as light and as towable as possible. The big change in towing feeling is movement. The short single axle moves around a bit more and it moves a little quicker. It is highly maneuverable though, I can get it in & out of just about anywhere. The biggest downside of the single is reduced cargo carrying capacity.

One thing you missed, installation of the water and holding tanks, where are they, are they enclosed in a heated space or just below the floor and in the elements? Thanks
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
Scott hello sir! My apologies that I missed this question earlier. All models have the holding tanks mounted between the frame rails and just under the floor of the unit in an open and unenclosed space. Rockwood does not enclose the underbelly on these to keep weight to a minimum. The tanks are heated though via 12 volt heating pads mounted on the underside of the tanks. The location of the holding tanks widely varies by model. I own a 20BHS. The fresh tank is all the way forward, the grey is just behind the axle, and the black is all the way in the tail. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching & commenting!

Do they offer a 4 season arctic package? Also I’m a newbie and saw the Grand Design warehouse tour on a separate video. Their trusses are made of wood. Is there such a thing as metal trusses?
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
👋 Hi @Raymond Ward! They do not offer a four season package, nor would I expect them to. This is primarily due to their goal of trying to keep all units under a benchmark 3,000 lbs for greater tow-ability. I will tell you from my experience that the Geo Pro does “mild” winter pretty good for a 3 season trailer. We’re wintering in NC and have seen some 27 degree nights. Nothing has frozen up. I run a heated fresh water hose and I have insulated the fresh water low point drains. Whenever it’s going to be near or below freezing I turn on the tank heaters. I run two small electric heaters as primary heat and set the gas furnace to kick on a little when it gets near freezing outside. I would not recommend trying to winter in a Geo Pro off grid without an upgraded solar & battery setup. And I would not recommend one for longer term sustained below freezing temperatures. . To my knowledge no one is using a pure aluminum roof truss. The Geo Pro uses a hybrid. It’s a combination of aluminum and wood. Just speaking for Rockwood and Grand Design, they both make a good “walk on” roof. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching & commenting!

Couple of questions: 1. Is the inverter output pure sine or modified sine? 2. What is the plan for 5G when LTE goes away?
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
Al Dec 👋 hello! 1. The inverter installed in my 2020, 20BHS is a WFCO, WF-5110R unit and it has pure sine wave output. 2. I have not heard anything about the WiFi Ranger plan for when LTE goes away. My guess is this - you currently have to buy a carrier specific module for current LTE usage. I’m guessing to upgrade an older unit to 5G you would have to buy an updated module (the “guts” of the receiver on the roof). I’ve not used the LTE capability of my WiFi Ranger yet and likely never will. They currently support AT&T but not Verizon. 22 gigs of AT&T data currently costs $90. That’s not cost competitive in my opinion. I have used the unit for WiFi though and it works great! Thanks for watching & the questions!

I have seen multiple threads on the Geo Pro's to where people are putting on nylock locking nuts at the frame where the cabin is mounted. This is because many new owners complain that those nuts they use were loose or nearly off when they inspected it. Why shouldn't this be a routine addition for safety done by the company? I have not purchased my 19FD, yet, but I am going with my wife to probably do so tomorrow. This will be one area in which I will be addressing with the service manager. Apparently there are about a dozen or so bolts and nuts beneath that need the nylocks added to. Just seems like a pretty cheap fix for the factory to do if they listen to their customers very well. I wish the audio was better on this video, but I did enjoy watching, anyway. Thanks for posting.

a1930ford thanks for the info on the nylocks. And yes, this would be a simple fix at the factory. They have made other changes based on customer feedback. From the factory there were problems with the steps not installed correctly, entry door not installed correctly, cabinet wood had termites ($1200 to exterminate), antenna not fasted to roof. I just finished using it for 4 months full time and the dinet frame broke apart from travel/vibration (never sat on it). I've resealed the roof seams every year and now have found water damage around the entire floor where the walls meet. I'm now looking at major repair cost or taking a big loss at sale/trade.

@@CrowdFreeRV OK. Thanks! I was asking because I was on the ladder, looking at the roof of a brand new unit on Saturday and there were unbounded wrinkles around virtually everything that was attached to the roof! I’m afraid the expedited manufacturing that’s taking place right now is not only affecting putting in the required appliances, (12v fridge, low profile AC, porcelain toilet), but the quality of workmanship may be taking a hit too, (unbounded membrane, cabinet doors separating, body to frame bolts missing or coming loose). They still build a quality product but I think they may need to make some changes. The blogs and forums indicate their reputation may start taking a hit.
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 3 года назад
@@lelandplume6889 yes, this trend is appearing across the board in various ways for all manufacturers. I looked at a Keystone Outback Ultralight with a family member last fall. Keystone is a quality brand. The entire roof of this brand new trailer needed a reseal. All the sealant was shrinking and opening up with seal-voids. I suspect they had run out of their regular sealant and used an inferior alternate. This is just one of many stories. . I expect this trend to continue through 2021. From what I am hearing from dealers is there is still pent up demand from 2020. The units are rolling out as quick as they can roll in from the factory.
@lelandplume6889
@lelandplume6889 3 года назад
@@CrowdFreeRV the numbers I’ve seen indicate your correct. The projection is that over 1/2 a million units will be built this year to meet demand. The highest number ever. But the general consensus seems to be that starting next year, when people realize that RVing is about more than driving and parking or they realize they can’t handle their rig, there will be a glut of slightly used units flooding the market. If you know what you’re looking for it’ll be the perfect time to buy.

Same old cheap crappy manufacturing process that's why the quality is so poor on all American made RV's. Until they fix the assembly lines to standardize the process. When the unit arrives in the QC bay it is so full of garbage from the construction area, which shows you the process is just a rush job. Take a good look at a car manufacturing process line. If you're RV was to come out of process like this it would have a true manufacturing process. Just watching the way the guys when they put a slide in the trailer, it should tell you everything you need to know about how cheaply these are made.
@CrowdFreeRV
@CrowdFreeRV 4 года назад
Colin Goldthorpe, in many ways I agree with you. One of my personal wishes is that every fastener which penetrates the exterior skin would have sealant applied to the threads to prevent water intrusion. Another would be to slow down and be more quality conscientious. But, to say that US RV manufacturing has not radically improved their quality over time is completely false. If non USA RV’s are so great, they should compete with USA manufacturers. The non US automakers did. Those competitive pressures would motivate USA manufacturers to up their game even more. So I say bring on the competition!! The customer always wins as a result.

@CrowdFreeRV 4 года назад
John Car this is a great question! From the perspective of quality, durability, towing weight, and capability/standard features you absolutely can’t go wrong with the Geo Pro. But the other part of the question only you can answer. What do you want to do with it? What tow vehicle do you have? Is it a good fit for your unique wants and needs? I’ve been looking for a rig myself since selling my toyhauler this last spring. I REALLY wanted to get a Geo Pro. The 19BH was one of the models I was considering. Ultimately I’ve decided against it. I’m going to get a Forest River No Boundaries 19.6. (NoBo) The primary deciding factor is we will at times be living and working full time out of this new trailer. The working/refrigerator/cooking space is just a little too small in the Geo Pro. Now, if we weren’t going to be full timing in it, we would have gone with the Geo Pro. The NoBo is good quality, but not as good as the Geo Pro. And there is bunch of equipment which is standard on the Geo Pro which I will have to install on the NoBo. But ultimately we needed the bigger fridge, extra counter space, and that small bar is an awesome feature. It will serve as my stand up desk when working. So...I hope this is helpful food for thought in your purchase decision!

I just bought the 16BH 2020. Did they tell you the average build time?

david bryan 👋 hello! They didn’t share an average build time, but if memory serves me correctly, at the time of filming the we’re completing an average of 24 units per day. There likely is some variance between models. For any given day, they configure their line to only run one model that entire day.

@@CrowdFreeRV Thanks for this video! Nice job! As far as build time, are you saying they build an entire trailer in one day?

@@jimmyclark9243 back when I filmed this they were kicking out 20+ units per day on some floor plans. I don’t know where they are at today. Demand is way up but supply chains are still struggling to catch up post Covid.

I've heard that if you put 5lbs in a drawer the bottom will fall out. The cabinets and such are basically a stiff cardboard.

This has not been my experience Richard. The interior is solid and I’ve not had issues after thousands of miles.

Did you notice if the underbelly was enclosed? Thanks

HI - MPH - they have an open underbelly. This was one of the design decisions made to help keep the weight as low as possible. They do have holding tank heat pads though which is a real bonus for extending your season. I’m unsure if they are standard or optional equipment. Your dealer could answer that. Thanks for the question!

The holding tank heating pads are an option you have to pay for...it negotiate into the deal.

I hate seeing factory workers moving so fast. The foreman thinks it’s impressive, but it’s actually the opposite. It shows the manufacturer is putting productivity ahead of QC.
