Shot at Rocky Boy Lutheran mission, Chippewa (Ojibway) and Cree, Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, Montana, ca. 1935. Silent film produced by John Gable, son of mission pastor William H. Gable. ELCA Archives
My Grandfather (nimosôm) George Mantee was born there in 1911, he was a Chippewa Cree before there was a Rocky Boy reserve. His mother; my great grandma Alice BigBoat had moved him up north when he was 7 years old to the “Piapot Band”, First Nation near Regina Saskatchewan, because the boarding school there ion the reserve were cruel to her, and she feared for her children well being. And he had grew up on the reserve there and married my Grandmother (nōhkom) and she was a Sautex Cree (Nehiyaw). Thank you for sharing this video (Ayhaya)..
this is my homeland. my dad is from here and my mom is from Poundmaker/Little Pine (central Sask). crazy finding this, brings up a lot of emotions. my grandfather could be in this and I would never know as he died about 15 years after this and there were no good pictures of him.
