As a Philadelphian, I can assure you that in the 80s, when all the kids on the block are gone, you assume they’re all together and you appreciate the break. We used to wander for as far as we recognized landmarks.
Lmao… Rocky “he ain’t gotta name, what are we gonna name him?” Pauli “Pauli’s a good name” You “fuck you” Priceless. I’m cracking up, your movie reactions are the best
Love this movie because it really takes Apollo to another level. In front of the cameras, he plays the role of a promoter, but behind the scenes he can admit to Rocky that he gave him his best and he can admit to Duke that he didn't truly beat Rocky in their first fight. Easily the best rival.
that and the hella ass whoopings that were gonna be handed down that night for all the children in philadelphia following that man. “especially the black momma’s!” 😆
All Rocky had to hear is “Win” from Adrian. He needed to know that Adrian was behind him 100% before he stepped back in that ring. Love your reaction!!
Fun facts: the baby is played by Stallone's son Seargeoh. The turtles, Cuff & Link, are still Stallone's pets. And yes, there is a statue of Rocky at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It is kept at the bottom of a side staircase, but they bring it up top for special occasions. Burt Young (Paulie) & Talia Shire's (Adrian) reactions were genuine, as they watched a rough cut of the fight sequence.
@@J_EOMReacts I'm from Philly and our Rocky knowledge is top tier. We all got a cousin or an uncle who skipped work to be an extra in the fight sequence. I used to work at this stadium and Veterans Stadium and it like being paid to mess with people. It was the best job that I've ever had. My husband was terrified that I was gonna get murdered, so I left after 7 years.
For me I think Rocky 4 is the best action/boxing movie in the Rocky franchise but Rocky 1 & 2 definitely showcase Sylvester Stallone acting and directing talents. Honestly, Rambo First Blood was one of the greatest acting jobs ever done in any action thriller.
Totally agree what I love about it is that with the first movie we see Rocky when he's poor, now we see him when he has money he's blinded by his own happiness after he marries Adrien, I mean look at him when he goes on his shopping spree, he buys the Trans Am, The House, The Clothes and Jewlery. Unfortunatly just like everyone who gets to much money way to fast, he goes through like water. He tries getting all kinds of different jobs but nothing works. It's not about a guy trying to conquer a dream, it's about a guy trying to get back onto his feet. Unlike in the first movie he doesn't have Adrien's approval at first then you have her going into a coma while giving birth. Second you have the issue with his eye. I also love all the humor like when Rocky talking about how he doesn't think he dog is a normal dog or when he's chasing the chicken. Burgess Meredith as Mickey was Phenomenal in this movie. I will say though the final fight while yes it is emotional it's a little hoaky due to the punches not even making contact.
@@taneshah.1260 Every time I see Rocky getting cheered by the Russians in Russia and seeing 👀 the 🇺🇸 waving ... I ain't gonna lie, bro. It brings a tear 😢 to my eye.
Contrast her "Win!" and the change in Rocky to her "You cant win!" in Rocky IV and you can just feel the hurt in him when he drives off in his Lambo and then the change in him again when she shows up in Russia. Truly one of the greatest couples in movie history.
"I just got one thing to say... to my wife at home: Yo, Adrian! I DID IT!" Fun Fact: When Rocky is training for the fight, he is sparring with a smaller quicker fighter. The sparring partner is played by real life Champion Roberto Durán. Making Lemonade Fact: Originally, Adrian was supposed to be at the big fight. However, because Talia Shire was working on another movie at the time, the storyline was changed to having her stay home and watch the fight on television. The scenes of her watching the boxing match on television were shot, and then edited into the movie several months after filming once the fight scenes had finished. Incredible Run Fact: Analysis by Philadelphia locals tracked the route Rocky took through the city during his training run when all the children ended up running with him. If he took this actual route from his South Philly house to the top of the Art Museum steps he would've run approximately 30.2 miles in one day - 4 miles more than a marathon. Not impossible by any means, but Rocky isn't training or built for that kind of run.
and by the way, back in the 70s kids were free range. as long as we were home by the time the street lights came on, parents were pretty chill with their kids playing outdoors.
@@JayTor2112 this was also before cell phone when a parent could call. kid. most kids knew their boundaries - which were usually major cross streets. you stayed in the neighborhood. but when my mom was a kid, she'd be sent downtown on a streetcar to pay bills with bills and money pinned to her clothes. the world - and parenting - had changed a lot.
17:10..."How do you know he didn't see it coming or just decided to block it with his face?" Oh my goodness another epic comment from JL!!! SLMAO. Thank you bro
a few things you may not know due to your age: 1.)everyone exercised in chucks....athletic shoes as we know it werent invented yet 2.)no one was looking for their kids (running after rocky): up until the late 1980s, people would send their kids to school on weekdays and outside on weekends and would not expect the kids to return until the street lamps turned on (9pm-ish, depending on time of year). Us kids just got to disappear for most of the day and explore, get into trouble, whatever. Those days are long gone now, but movies like Rocky are more than entertainment, they are a glimpse into a different time
28:41 - Adrian: "Win." [bell] "Win." "Aw, he gonna kill Apollo." THAT.... got me to subscribe. Right there. You had me laughing through most of this commentary, but that one got me. lol
18:53 ''Rocky did you worse than that gator did. Hell, Rocky did you worse than the Predator did" That's the reason I sub to your channel. Funniest quote I've ever heard from you. Much Love.
The theme through all the movies is Rocky and Adrian’s love for each other trumps everything. Rocky needs her to be on board with him for him to be successful- it only works with her. And of course the boxing is always nail biting and amazing!
@43:25, Stallone is a good actor but he is an even better screenwriter. He wrote characters that you can root for even if you don’t have the same background. His literal fight to make something of his life is something we can all understand. Whenever Rocky movies focus on the inner psyches of the character and his wife, it becomes so relatable.
Whats different about this channel, what sets it apart from other reaction youtubers, is that the videos hold a HUGE replay value. You can watch the same video multiple times and it's still interesting.
😂 right?! I’ve specifically watched the Die Hard one like, 7, 8 times. Even after when he does the whole “I know I talked about his foot a lot, but have u ever hurt your foot?” [w/o skipping a beat, Drogo-who’d been quiet the entire video] answers “bow-wow!” Jay looks down and goes “…I know YOU have, I was talking to them…[points back & forth] WE have hurt our foot before…”😂
I love the way they promote the second super fight. The boxer vs the puncher. Apollo’s pride was his downfall. Rocky took everything Apollo had. Love the ending as well. “Rocky Balboa has shocked the world!!” Just epic
40:00 My man was in his emotions. I remember when I first saw the movies in the theaters. The crowd was just as much in their emotions too. This movie series had a way of getting all up in the feels.
Sylvester Stallone sold his bullmastiff dog Butkus for $50 in early 1970s to make ends meet. The struggling actor was trying to sell his script for ‘Rocky’ and didn't have money for food. Once the film series was finalized, Stallone bought his dog back for $3,000, who starred in two 'Rocky' films.
A few things: the first 4 movies are my favorites. Apollo and Rocky were adversaries but respected each other even though Apollo talked himself into the fight that put him down. Bill Conti is the composer for all the movies except IV. Vince DiCola scored Rocky IV and I LOVE that score too. I really think you will enjoy Rocky III and IV.
I greatly appreciate that. I love it when people tell me I make them feel like their watching with a friend. It lets me know I’m doing something right.
I'm 58, and was a teen back when Rocky and Rocky 2 debuted. Your comments about the kids running off with Rocky...lol. Back then, I doubt the parents even missed them and didn't worry too much about where they went, as long as they got home on time. I remember even at age 7, being gone from home most every day during the summer. I was usually with my year younger cousin and we rode our bikes all over town, usually ending up at the school playground to play on the swings, slides and monkey bars. Our town and a noon whistle, and we would hear that and ride home to get lunch and check in with our parents. Then we would leave the house again and not get home until we heard the lumberyard whistle ending a shift at 5pm. I don't know if it really was a safer world for kids back then, or if we were just that innocent of the dangers of allowing kids to be gone for hours, sometimes several miles from the house with no adult watching over them....but it was a way of life for many of those of my generation. : ) I am loving your reaction to the Rocky movies, and hope you watch Rocky's journey over the decades...as it finally leads into the two CREED movies. Also, your dogs are enjoyable to watch too. I will continue to watch your Rocky movies reactions and check out some of your other reactions too. Keep up the good work.
It sounds weird but eventually we all come to love Paulie. Hes an interesting character indeed, but hes a good guy and does the right thing when he has too. He gets better man xD I'd say the 4th movie is when he really becomes one of the fan favorites!
Love the Rocky films you cant not get invested the characters are just so lovable.Seen this many times I am still sat crying each time.Loved your reactions and the copilots.
I can't wait for Rocky 3. I hope nothing has been spoiled cause I'm so stoked for your reaction. Theres some scenes that I know you're gonna bring it. Lol
What always got me is how humble Rocky is. If he really wanted to Rock could’ve tore Apollo ass up during that interview they were doing before the fight. He could’ve talked all kinds of shit but Rocky just doesn’t have it in him to be spiteful like that. Especially considering that Apollo didn’t originally want a rematch. Rocky could’ve really aired him out on Nation TV but he didn’t. He’s too good man.
I know someone that fought at the hospital after their fight ended in a close decision. His justification was "He came on my side ofnthe hospital". I nearly died laughing.
Pauly is a more complex character than he seems. At least I think so. He's a guy who knows he has very low prospects in life, but he kind of resents others he sees as no better than him getting a break. He genuinely likes Rocky, but as he has no romantic prospects, he feels stung that Rocky does, especially with his sister. He feels entitled to a break in life, but doesn't register that breaks are earned. He wants to be a friend, but he sees everything through a "What's good for Pauly" filter. I wonder if he's modeled on one specific person, or is a combo of several people with social awkwardness. I think Pauly gers a little less unlikable in each movie as he learns to give into relationships.
"He's eatin punches. That's why Rocky cant read" 😂 I'm tellin you man, you need to start writing some comedy. You're funny as hell. I end up watchin movies on this channel I'm not even interested in because I know I'm gonna laugh and have a good time
The Chubb references throughout ..😁..lmao. And if you don't tear up at some point in this movie...and the others you ain't got no ❤️. Sending love to you and your doggies too.
I saw this in the theater and have lost count how many times I've seen it, but I cry every.single.time! The thing that makes Rocky so endearing is he is a good man. Instead of being petty at the end, he thanked Apollo for the second chance. Can't wait for Rocky III!!! BTW, Burt Ward (Paulie) can play a good guy, non-drunk, but being a former fighter in real life, he's still rough around the edges. You should check him out in Back to School, starring Rodney Dangerfield. He's nice and he's tough.
😂😂😂 omg, Romulus’ eye when he was sleeping upside down. My dog (Cletus) used to do that all the time. Also the “fart scare” of a few videos ago when he farted & scared himself. All the time, man. I miss my boy
Another great one guys. Blank, thanks for leaving JL crying in it this time. & I did tell you, JL. These films will make you cry! So you may want have a box of tissues with you when you watch the rest of the films. That does include the Creed films
Excellent classic movie, yes this movie has romance but more so of a motivational movie. Classic underdog, how realistic it feels, is what makes it timeless.
Couldn't wait for this reaction and was not disappointed. Was so happy to hear you say Chubbs about ten times. So as a courtesy, the next movie you will cry and you will laugh and you will enjoy it. I can't wait.
@@J_EOMReacts , I truly enjoy your reactions, especially the scary ones. Man I love a great laugh and you do not disappoint. My friend and fellow human. You will need a tissue. Next time you say Chubbs look at the camera and I will know. You do make me laugh and I enjoy what you do. I give you thumbs up even if I don't really watch it I heard it helps you. Peace be well.
I think the drive behind every movie is essentially heart, both in the character sense and in the writing of the movies by Stallone. Adrian being the focal point at first and now adding a child into it. In most sports talent is usually the key but heart matters when it comes to fighting. Don’t worry, you’ll see some skill improvement in the next film and probably more allergy flare ups. “Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” - Rocky Balboa (2006)
My favorite part of the fight -- except for the very end of course -- was when Apollo tried to leave the corner and Rocky grabbed him and threw him back in the corner for more! hahahaha That said, this is totally a love story first and foremost and I this is my favorite Rocky movie. By far.
Another great boxing film that is based off of a true story is Cinderella Man ( James Braddock). It takes place during the great depression. It is also a love story and how his family had to survive.
Love how emotional this made you. I still think the last couple of minutes of this film are legit among the best in movie history and you really root for all the characters. And as I've said before I love your dogs, man :-)
