I am an owner of multiple TWH and have had some RMH. Unlike the TWH breeders, who resorted to using artificial gait training devices - RMH breeders took the right path and selected for horses who are BORN WITH natural high knee action. Similar to how Welsh ponies were selected for high showy knee action in the hitch. RMH foals are BORN lifting their knees up like that as they play in the pasture.
The reason the horses are gaiting across the wooden platform is so the audience can hear the rhythm of the gsit. And then the announcer wouldn't shut up...way to go...🙄
and for such naturally compliant and gated horses, why the Tom Thumb and other 'corrective' bits ? I realize these are stallions, but one of the breed hallmarks and requirements is for easy going temperament and willingness under saddle... Show Ring and working class should stay on the same page
@@catzdollz9810 These horses are shown flat shod and are manually checked by a qualified person prior to their entering a class, then are not permitted to leave an observed area until after the class they show in. First place winner must also be re checked after he goes out the class gate. Horses are bred for performance and classes are divided according to degree of leg lift. After 30 years of being bred for performance, some of them can really step it up. However, there is a use for all, as the horses that show little motion can go in a class for that or are used as trail horses, at which they are very successful as well. Judges are trained to recognize signs of abuse and any horse showing such in the ring can expect to be excused. This association is very conscious of the image they display to the world and expect all exhibitors to show knowledgeable and humane treatment at all times or deal with disciplinary measures such as being banned from showing temporarily or permanently.
@Horseygirl70 it is incredibly disrespectful to toss out accusations against a horse and trainer like you have here (big lick aka he is being forced into a big step artificially). I previously dated the owner of the horse that you are referring to and I can assure you that is his gait is very much natural. Every horse is different, some step low and some step high. You need to educate yourself a little more.
Big lick is abuse, i can't even watch it, those stacks on the front hoofs and how those joints are stressed. One does not have to be an expert to sèe the horse is beeing harmed. Not even going into the chemical burning and the chains they have been used. Absolutely disgusting.
Big lick is the padded TWH. These are flat shod pleasure horses. Shoes are closely regulated, only certain shoes permitted. Horses checked prior to entering ring by a qualified professional (ie vet)..Those violating rules face heavy fines /ban from showing.
