Rocky - Sega Master System Full Game 

You just unlocked one of the biggest mysteries of my childhood video game life.....I was never able to beat Drago!!! lol

AVGN makes this game look hard. This makes the game look freakin' easy.

Look at what you've done! You've created an alternate history! You beat Drago so quickly and with so little damage done to yourself that the Soviet spectators never got a chance to root for Rocky. Rocky never made his "everybody can change" speech. Public sentiment in the Soviet Union never changes. The Berlin Wall never comes down. The War on Terror never begins because the Cold War continues into the 21st Century... Think about it man. Just think about it.

Man I remember this game back in the day. Without a turbo controller, your arm is fucked from the punching bag then by the time you qualify, your arm is numb having to do the actual fight. Hated this game.

It is crazy how back then this game with only 3 different fights would have sold for $40-$50. This takes the "we have a short game so we have to make it super hard to make it last longer" to the extreme!

Oh my god ...when i see this i can clearly see my old room as a Kid with my rocky 4 Poster on the Wall and the he-man figures . Man i Miss those nostalgic Feelings and memories . THIS Game was back in the days so Bad ass . Thanks for uploading this

Getting a high score in the speed bag training would determine if you could breeze through the Drago fight. It took me ages to figure out how to beat him. I never had a turbo controller but discovered that, during the speedbag training if I flipped my thumb around and used my thumb nail to slide back and forth between the two game pad buttons as fast as I could, I could make my own “turbo fire”! My arm would be burning by the end of the training, but I could typically get the 6 second average necessary to win...

Absolutely lover The Sega Master System when I was a kid...Hang On.. Out Run.. Rocky..World Soccer ..Great Basketball Super Tennis and California Games were the ones I played such great memories x

Memories! I remember playing this game at my grandmother's house on my cousin's Sega Master System. That was like 18 years ago! Times flies!

Legendary game. I remember my brother beating this without the scandalous aid of turbo. It did take him years, however. And by the end, I witnessed him obtained the mythical seven hits per second on the speed-bag (he had a skimming technique). Man, that training section actually trains your forearms. I'll never forget it.

Considering that the Master System is technologically more powerful than the NES, this graphics is very good for 8-bit.

This game has some of the best music and graphics of all time for master system.

Drago was tough as hell for me, but I was also 4 years old lol. Nice playing, dude! You dominated and that's the first time I ever saw that ending.

This game was amazing

I'm 35 and used to have this game when i was a kid. It took me years to finish it without a turbo controller. Actually, the first training gives you more powerful punches, the second one faster punches (and I CHALLENGE anyone to achieve a hit rate higher than 3/sec without cheats and without losing an arm here, so forget about becoming as fast as in this video), and the last one removes one of the three weak punches before the strong one in the combo, so they became two. So while Apollo and Clubber were actually beatable, Drago wasn't without knowing a little "cheat". The secret to beat Drago was MISS him with the two weak punches and land the strong one to push him back far enough to don't allow him to DESTROY you and repeat. This required perfect timing in a game with clumsy controls, and every single error meant a knockdown for him.

the third trainning actually looks decently fun

He's also wearing the red white and blue trunks in training before Apollo...I noticed both of those things in 1987 when I was 5 years old. In any case, they got one very important detail right: they made rocky a lefty. Even the PS2 game didn't have him as a south paw.

He only said that in Rocky 2 because he wanted Rocky to protect his right eye (which Mickey had to cut in the first to reduce the swelling). Remember, he had poor vision at the start of Rocky 2 (which some how never became an issue in the later movies).

Thanks for putting this together, talbot1939, it really gives people an idea of what the game is like with a turbo controller. I remember reading that with a turbo controller it was possible to score 8 hits per second during the second training session, but that is obviously not the case. Surprisingly, it is possible to do just as well without a turbo controller. Rocky is very beatable.

I have this game for my SMS. Actually, on the contrary i used to think for ages, the use of rapid fire or turbo controllers make the training harder do achieve better results. I manually managed to beat the 99 limit ate the first training, reached 7 punches/sec at the second and 90 on the third. It´s really just a matter of timing on the buttons. Just keep pushing the buttons 1 and 2 alternately for good results, it´s easy to get the correct timing. There´s no need for turbo.

We can easely see that this dude used the rapid fire. The rapid fire was very usefull in Rambo 3 and Gungsters Town too.

Wow look at Rocky go! He plowed through Lang and Drago like they were Spider Ricco! Never thought I'd see the day. I love how Lang is sporting black trunks in the fight but when he's knock down his trunks are blue.

As far as I know, The Angry Video Game Nerd couldn't get past this part & he couldn't beat this game, either... Is there a trick to it, or, no?

Before the rapid speed attachment Drago kicked my ass all the time. When I finally got one it was no mercy for Drago, again and again and again.

Yeah, I was crazy enough to try that out and actually succeed last year! It really does make the game that much more of a challenge, but it's still beatable either way :).

thumbs up if you played this as a kid, hated this as a kid, grew up tried it again, hated it again, watched this video hoping to see the ending then realizing it wasn't worth the time anyway, but you still own it : D

Take a spoon, tilt it so that the bottom curve of the spoon glides over the buttons on your controller. Rub the spoon back and forth quickly and you can make his arms move super fast. This spoon technique works on many games.

It looks like Rocky is wearing a blue janitor's suit at the end. This must be after Paulie lost all his money, and Rocky is getting ready to go clean that house.

@wbercy You are sort of correct, I have seen all of the Rocky movies. And Apollos old trainer trained Rocky, but Rocky did do a little self training.

As a 4yo, was baffled and never got past Clubber. Now I’ve got to see the endings for Rambo, Rastan, Snail, and Hangon.

this game came out in 1987, and Tommy Gunn appeared in Rocky V (1990), and Tarver in Rocky Balboa (2006).

It's amazing how when we were young we would say things like " wow look at those graphics" and " that looks just like him" but as you get older you notice it's really the same character with adjustments
