Glad they work. Price is reasonable for good equipment. I'm also glad they're honest about range. If you really want to go down the radio rabbit hole look into getting your amateur radio license.

I use the Wouxun KG805G, and the BTech/Baofeng V1 GMRS radios. Baofeng makes a new GMRS radio the UV-9G GMRS radio . It’s total water proof . It’s a good value. It is also a 5watt. I wish they would have made them when I was in the market for HT radio

Radio is a form of electromagnetic radiation, the same as visible light just on a different spectrum. Like llvisible light, many things can block a radio signal. Things like mountains and hills, IE dirt, will block a radio signal. Pretty much everyone knows (well maybe not everyone) that *line of sight* is required for these radios to work. The one exception is bouncing CB radio off the ionosphere.

I have used it in all city and Mountains and the distances are accurate of 1-5miles in mountains and 0.5-3miles in hills or thick forests. They have several informative testing videos on their site where they point out how to wire radio can work and its strengths as well as where the environment will hinder its performance. That’s what really sold it for me is that they weren’t trying to claim that they were going to be able to communicate with the moon no matter where you were I told you what they could and could not do.

Most FRS radios will work that well over water. Not a tough trick for any of them. At home, you'll be lucky to get much further than a few hundred yards. Still, that's enough for a lot of what many people need to do. Prefer GMRS radios as they use the same channels/frequencies and allow for higher wattage and removable/replaceable antennas. The bummer is you have to buy a license from the FCC, but it's good for your entire family - extended family - and is good for ten years.

Or just get your ham ticket for free and be able to buy and use wildly more capable radios at 1/5 the cost. Not to mention you have access to many more bands, higher power, better antenna options, and thousands of repeaters.

True Ross I miss spoke, what I meant was clarity of signal compared to cheaper models that are in the 2w range that I’ve used before which can be full of static and pretty intermittent after about half a mile.

For an FRS radio these are pretty nice but I'm not a fan of the limitations of the FRS. Now this same company would make a combination FRS/gmrs that was able to transmit on gmrs repeaters..... That would be a different story and I would really like to see one of those.

@18dmedic
@18dmedic 2 года назад
These are way way over priced. You cannot have 115 channels on FRS so that is very misleading right out of the gate. FRS you have 15 channels. 2 watt radios I wouldn't mess with at all. But you have to also remember that Baofeng isn't FCC Certified for Part 95 operations on FRS. BTECH does have two radios that are compliant with Part 95 and those are those BTECH MURS V1 and the BTECH GMRS V-1.

I’m pretty new to radios. I have used several in this license free 2w range and I’ve never been very impressed. Spending the average $60-$100 for a pair. Though I do know that this is on the higher end of the 2w range of clarity and functionality and super long battery life way out way and Out perform other models I have used in the past in the 2 W range. The thing that really sold it for me in the beginning before I ever got them was climbing magazines review. And now having use them myself daily for three months I can say of the 2w that I have used these far exceed many of the cheaper models. That’s just my experience your mileage may vary.

Do these radios do offset for repeater function , does the antenna come off for a additional base or mobile antenna ? 2 watts is 2 watts Any radio will have that range from mountain top, im not bashing you or your test im just saying since ive been into radio for almost 40 , years , in my opinion way to much money for that radio , again not bashing you video just my opinion

Does this work for dense urban jungles?
@joshuaasbill3131
@joshuaasbill3131 2 года назад
I work in the radio world. Primarily on public safety systems. These are only 2watt. Get them in an urban environment and there’s no shot they work. I don’t think the company is claiming this. You really have to be line of sight. Total line of sight like he’s showing across the lake is doable. Even in dense trees the signal will get killed. Around a campsite, across water fine but do not think if you’re on a backpacking trip and you and your family get separated even 1/4m apart through trees these will work. So many things block radio signals, the worst of which is trees and structures. Also take a look at price tags. A radio that will work in an urban jungle like you’re asking is going to be in the $150-$250 a radio. Like a m300 midland or comparable beofang and Motorola. They have stronger wattage. Stronger the wattage the stronger the antenna. Yes after a certain wattage you need a license but that’s essentially free and can always be used for emergency purposes

@@joshuaasbill3131 is there a brand or style of radio you'd recommend
@joshuaasbill3131
@joshuaasbill3131 2 года назад
@@joellowe2215 yes. No question Midland mb400. Small and tough. 4watt so twice as powerful as what you see here. About $130 a piece or you can buy sets of 3,4 etc all the way up to 16 I think. I work for Motorola public safety division and I use the midlands at home and while camping. No their not better than the Motorola’s I work with but you’re talking two different animals. The Moto radios are thousands up to $10k a radio. I’ve tested my midlands out to approx 4miles away by car in a suburban neighborhood. That’s pretty damn good. Line of sight they’d easily do 30 miles. Also no proprietary accessories so you can use any mic, earpiece etc. if you’re looking pay attention to wattage. Wattage is like horsepower.

These are way overpriced they are the same frs radios they sell everywhere. They also claim over a hundred channels, 2 watts output and no license requirements. Not really sure how they accomplish over 100 channels there are only 15 frs channels you can transmit on with 2 watts. I would save you money go buy a set at Cabela's or walmart for less than the price of 1 of these.

Seems like you are confusing channels with frequencies. FRS has 22 frequencies. These radios have 128 channels so you can have different DCS or CTCSS "privacy codes" for each channel but they are still limited to the 22 FRS frequencies and the .5 and 2 watt power limits on those designated frequencies.
