good job on Brind'Amour saying that it isn't the issue but certainly is frustrating. now if only fans would stop blaming refs for sub-par performances. as a fan I hate to see inconsistencies and it is a problem, however if one measly call is what ends your post season you need to evaluate what the hell is wrong with your team.
Thats the meaning of a sub par performance, reffs are the ones making the calls, if there not going by the book, teams are getting screwed, so how cant you blame them, sorry but your comment didnt make sence, reffs need to be held accountable for there actions just like players, ive seen non calls on obvious pennilties threw all 3 series
If the refs had been going by the book on this particular play, it would have been 2 mns for high stick on the Panthers and 2 mns for embellishment on the Canes. Call or no call, it all evens out.
How do explain Draisaitl getting a penalty for a love tap on Doughty's skate vs no penalty on Eberle for ultra boarding and breaking Cogliano's break... pathetic.
Panthers player’s stick blade hit him square in the face. He likely was more animated about it than if it were his own players stick on accident, or a shot follow through. Most players react with some animation from a high stick to the face, especially the blade. If it grazed his chin or something, then yeah, embellishment, but in this case, that’s a pretty standard high sticking call. You call embellishment there and now the standard would be impractical in keeping for embellishment from high stick to face. Non biased Wings fan here btw.
@@independentmind7782 even as a cats fan that’s still high sticking. The play was blown dead as somehow none of the refs saw the highstick, but thought there was an injury on the play when Ghost went down
It was a high stick, no doubt, but also an embellishment could/should have been called in trying to sell the penalty. You either take both, or neither. At that point in the game, I think the refs made the right call, take neither. Not going to comment on any other penalty or non-penalty call for either team in this series, that's my take on this specific play. If Carolina is going to win, they can't rely on the refs handing them power plays. They have 3 goals in 3 games, 2 PP goals and 1 5v5 goal. That's not good enough to win.
everyone complaining about refs...what about the 4 min for the high stick on cousins that wasn't called...give me a break. the refs miss a ton of calls. they aren't doing it for one team or the other. and leafs fans need their heads examined. you got 7-2 penalties in the first 2 games and lost both at home. refs tried to help and you still lost. shut up and quit whining already
Yeah. But I’ve never heard more whiny fans than Panthers fans after the disallowed goal in game 1 OT. I’m cheering for the Panthers, but the level of tears made me nearly switch allegiances.
@@kurtisgibbs6698 at least that one had some substance. That was a weak call, but you live with it and play on. Like I said, the refs have missed them on both sides. We are also talking about a call that quite literally was a game ending goal vs a penalty which could have or could not have done anything different in the game. Big difference. A penalty called means the players still have to play. Taking a goal off the board or putting one on in OT is a game altering call.
Well for one the is no such thing as a 4 minute major. Not sure if you're watching basketball but learn the rules kid. PIMs are as follows a game misconduct, a 10 minute misconduct, a 5 minute major, 4 minute double minor and a 2 minute minor.
I feel for the Canes im leafs fan we got straight players crosschecked full HD review almost kncoked unconcoius NO CALL insane reffing needs to have quick review every call in playoffs!!!! Period
There have been some whacky calls/ no calls this year, but if I hear one more Canes fan blame the ref ima lose it. Being down 0-3 in a series isn’t all on the refs. Like my Avs blew it big time this year but hey that hurts them more than me lol
They stopped the play because the guy embellished so hard it looked like he was hurt. Didn’t even touch his face. 2 for each should have been. Cry cry cry
@@CozyToad how could the ref give offsetting penalties in this case, it was highsticking and the ref was six feet away..... they gave Draisaitl a penalty for disturbing Doughty's skate laces, no penalty to Eberle for breaking Cogliano's neck... pathetic. It goes on and on year after year. I guess I watch because it's the law in Canada, you have to love hockey.
Last thing refs needed was for it to tie 1-1 in the final minutes in the 3rd. Days have passed since the 4OT but they cant possibility have it happen again especially since they have plans to go golfing and hit the beach early next morning.
@@day1avsfan907 he wasn’t joking- the original poster truly thinks the refs don’t want overtime because they want to get off work earlier- like they’re working at Walmart.
Carolina is a Great Team that is extremely well coached. But....They lack goalscorers. Aho is all by himself now when Svechnikov is out. They should have traded for a "clutch"player like Palat
It wouldn't matter with Bob in the net. Hurricanes are dominating shots on goal and have had countless 1on1s. Carolina had probably more goals than anyone up until this point.
Hockey has to have the worst defined penalties besides maybe basketball. There should be minimal interpretation by the refs and better definitions for these rules
The NHL truly have the worst officiating in all of sports. It's an open secret that they call an offence depending on who it is, what time of year, time of the game, score of the game, etc. Complete joke overall.
I'm rooting for FL.. but... we all saw it. Frustrating but I think every team has to overcome a ball-breaker like that at some point in the playoffs. Good luck boys (but GO CATS).
Not sure what you mean, here. By love, do you mean they're the most penalized team in the playoffs? You might want to check statistics before making a comment like this.
Refs need to be better all around, but the Canes did not lose because of the refs ....when you are down 0-3 and gave not scored in how many periods now??? One goal in how many????? Mr. BOBROVSKY is doing his thing but he has FINALLY..... FINALLY after all these years corrected his biggest problem: Over playing the sequence and taking himself out if position
Play stopped cause refs thought the Canes player was dying, video review confirmed he is a soccer player. Glad refs didn’t call that crap. Next game the coach can blame Santa Claus.
And that crap being a stick blade to the face? You are glad the ref didn't call that? The whole world saw 5 different angles of the stick to the chops. And I'm not even a Canes fan but that's a penalty all day.
and an owner who doesn't restrict the GM's ability to manage and a GM who will have holl be a 7th D dude can't stay consistent if his life depended on it. in short: whole org needs to be shaken up not just our GM
@@cludecat7072after watching the 2nd place team in the league be down 3-0 should open your eyes and say "maybe the Leafs weren't so bad and maybe Florida is just on a godly level at this point". Blowing up the team seems rediculous, especially if Carolina gets swept
@@Thisisbailie blowing up management. Shanahan needs to go. Yeah Florida is playing well and Bob is stealing games, that doesn't mean our president isn't awful.
I guess you weren't watching earlier in the game when Cousins was "actually" struck in the mouth with a high stick that drew blood and wasn't called? That should have been a double-minor. However, this particular play on Gostisbehere, where he clearly was not struck in the mouth and tried to embellish the call, is the most pathetic refereeing you've seen throughout all the years you've been watching playoff hockey? Tell me you're an upset Carolina fan with no knowledge of the game without telling me you're an upset Carolina fan with no knowledge of the game.
@@luvmy968 no knowledge? , I have watched all the Sutters play junior hockey in Lethbridge with Bryan Trottier, I was a huge Habs fan in the sixties, watching Beliveau, Cournoyer, thru the seventies with Lafleur, Shutt, Robinson. Saw Clint Malarchuk's neck get severed and blood spewing all over. Saw Ted Green and Wayne Maki get into a stick swinging incident and Green had a plate put into his head. The Broadstreet bullies in the 70s and watched Larry Robinson destroy Dave Shulz. I watch all the Olympics hockey, even watched the U. S. win the gold medal in Lake Placid. Saw Jordan Eberle break a guy's neck, no penalty. No, I'm an Oiler fan who loves hockey and seen a lot in my 65 years and I've never seen such pathetic officiating. So, getting back to your comment, I know quite a bit about hockey.
@deanasplund123 So you think this one particular play was THE most pathetic non-call, EVER? That was my point. If you watched the game and saw the non-call on Cousins, you can't call this play pathetic. Furthermore, if there was a call to be made, it's two minutes for high-sticking on Reinhart and two minutes for Unsportmanlike Embellishment on Gostisbehere. However, with two minutes to go in the third period, the right call was to make no call at all and not take any players off the ice. 4 v 4 or 5 v 5, same result, let the players decide the game, not the refs. And by the way, it doesn't matter how much hockey you've watched, that doesn't mean you know a hill of beans about the game.
@@luvmy968 this is the last I'll comment on this, by making these non-calls, the refs are deciding the outcome. That's what they get paid for. Have a good life.
