Rod Serling Was Prophetic With This Warning

Watch The Twilight Zone episode, "The Obsolete Man" when you can. You might think this episode is futuristic. It is actually constructed from history, warning us that our future may be doomed to look like this if we fail to learn from history. I can see the latency of its arrival. Serling's words here are incredibly prophetic and wise.

You control only what you say, do, & think, not what everyone else does. It's not humanly possible for you to control the course of the entire human race. That's absurd. We aren't gods. We are only mortal human beings living on a tiny blue planet that, compared to the Milky Way, is nothing more than a speck of dust. You could say we are even tinier specks inhabiting a tiny speck in space IMO it's much closer to the truth to say those who truly understand history have a much stronger grasp of *_their_* future. To understand the past is to know where your life is going & avoid the oft repeated mistakes of others throughout the ages ;o)

In 1986, the planet's highest frequency over the air television channel was being erected on channel 63. I happen to live very close to this new television station. I started watching from the very first test signals. For the effective signal range tests and to set up repeaters, the station played the complete, Twilight Zone series constantly for four months. I had just been in a horrific accident and awoke from a two week coma. That was when I started finding the very first short test signals. Later, the constant playing of The Twilight Zone series started. I watched it as much as I possibly could. My hospital room was private so I could watch television any time. All I did for four months, day and night was watch The Twilight Zone and eat every few days. I did not bother to sleep for days and never checked the time, turned on the lights, nor opened the shades to the window. I barely slept because of all the pain I was in so I just watched The Twilight Zone and nothing else. The television station did not even have commercial advertising, nor any sort of break in the playing of the series for months. Between constantly watching The Twilight Zone series constantly, no visitors, and constant sharp pain for months, I think it changed me.

@@vauban3646 if you were actually as dedicated to "logic" as you make out, you'd have researched the actual philosophy behind that ideology, and realise that you're making an incredibly reductive misrepresentation of an incredibly nuanced & complex issue. what they're actually saying is that we ALL (even marginalised people) have some unconscious biases & prejudices that have been ingrained in us through the hegemony & material structures of the society we're born into. What it basically boils down to is "nobody is perfect and we're all working on ourselves" (in fact the 2nd episode of the new twilight zone touched on this a bit) but you wouldn't realise that from right-wing commentators who square-in on the most outrageous-sounding part & remove any context & nuance that would show them up. @12345grov While I am no fan of cancel culture, then we have the right wing version of education, and it isn't pretty either. The US was inspired by God and therefore never made mistakes. That slavery, while on the surface a bad thing, actually did good things, including for the slaves; that scientific theory is only a 'guess', that it is equal to any belief and so forth. The right wants creationism taught as science, they have this idea that if logic and the truth chalenged people's "long held beliefs", that they should not be taught (Texas ban on critical reasoning teaching). Often, too, what the right wants on college campuses if for kids and teachers to be able to be like Donald Trump, spew out hate and lies and face no consequences for it. The irony is universities protect right wing quacks, Scott Atlas who promoted all kinds of idiotic ideas about covid, that it wan't a threat, that herd immunity would come up without killing many people, is on the Stanford faculty. Mahmet Oz, who is on the faculty of columbia-presbytyrian medical center, who claimed covid was not fatal, that it didn't kill more than the flu, that hydroxychloroquinone cured covid, and they both still have jobs. There are right wing faculty on university staffs who promote white supremacy (arguing white people are smarter than non whites; I guess he never saw a Trump rally), the funny part is there are plenty of right wing types happily promoting their ideas, even if many of them have been proven false.

EDIT: Thank you everyone in the comments who helped prove my point. EDIT 2: wow, people are still going. The advice I'm going to give to everyone here is to get off the internet, and start talking to people whom you disagree with about their views in person (someone, like a coworker) seek to understand their points, rather than criticize. Ask questions, not as a "got ya!" Moment, but rather state your concerns, and see if they have an answer to it. Just don't be aggressive or argumentative, make it clear you only want to learn. Most people these days live in a bubble of information, and you just might find out you're the one in a bubble. “Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. No, he was a student of history and learned from the mistakes of others. He was in an era just after the McCarthy Red scares and saw the writing on the wall when it could have been stopped. These are really called precautionary tales. 'Think about what you see here, because it might come to pass in the future if you don't take care of the present.' History is littered with precautionary tales.

Have you ever watched any of the various episodes that he actually wrote? Seen movies that he wrote the screenplays for? Every project that he was EVER involved with was ahead of his time! @Gary Nelson being someone who is a senior doesn't make you a "man of the world" especially when it comes to evaluating talent and being a former or current Creative writer doesn't hold much more merit nowadays than someone who is well versed in women's studies or Humanities at the local university! @@WannabeWryter The point that hellogoodbye was making was that he is better for having watched the one instead of the other, and in fact, given the quality of the messages in both, I'm inclined to believe him. And, the 2000s were not the "Golden era" of cartoons at all, more like the "iron era" because quality of animation had not improved dramatically over the 80s productions, nor had the quality of the storytelling. It's kind of like comparing the Victorian era of poetry to the Classical era. The Classical era was clearly better in quality, even though it came a century before. We're not "putting one down" in favour of the other, we're just comparing notes.

@@badduka198 that’s very true. In no way am I a centrist (I don’t think being a centrist improves any of our political division, but only furthers it) but I think the two party system only encourages division in our country. Which creates the idea of “I can’t speak to the other side, the other side is stupid and ignorant”. Even me, being an impressionable young teen has said things like “Oh that was written by a conservative, I don’t care what they have to say” and a lot of us think like that, we see and hear things through a filter rather than actually hearing and seeing people.

@@pizzamon795 and that's exactly how I have seen it. I keep listening to my fav RU-vid channel personalities. And I have something heavy and important on my heart to be tackling in my life, but I get tempted and I tune into just ONE more episode, of whoever I want to hear that day, thinking surly this has to be close to a wrap. The election results, the protests and riots, the Covid restrictions and lockdowns etc. And it NEVER ends! This nightmare goes on. So I am grounding myself as of tomorrow, from even my fav conservative RU-vid media, for a week. to deal with my own backyard. LOL Got to do it. As the world will be continuing to spiral out of control, and everybody will go on without me. I am a Christian. I pray about the issues. But my heart is zeroing in on certain people in my life that need to have clarification regarding God, salvation and their need for Him, now more than ever. I am not young. I won't be here forever. The bottom line now is NOT the saving of our way of life as much as the salvaging of souls, before it's too late. I don't see any returning to TRUE normal. Though I would gladly give my life as a true patriot. If it could help. But my main concern as the buildup of the great reset is descending upon us all, is my family and their eternal life. Everything else is just too temporal. Don't misunderstand me. I believe every single God fearing person should do ALL that we can do to preserve our Constitution and lawful way's. But I am not holding my breath. The true patriot leaders among us (not politicians) need to start something, SOOON. But I don't see any sign of it. I wish....

History follows a pattern of the masses craving a safe and easy to understand world and the psychopaths that are only too glad to oblige the scared populace. You could obliterate the digital, written and spoken knowledge of history and this pattern would play out again and again. Your logic (if you care to call it that) is anything but logic. Your words may sound pretty but they are otherwise useless except to confuse others.
