A scene with the clash between a WWII veteran (Rod Steiger) and Vietnam army deserter (David Huffman) from a little gem ‘Wolf Lake’ (1980).
“The highly charged generational conflict between Charlie (Steiger) and David (Huffman) gives this film a considerable amount of substance and dramatic impact, with both diametrically opposed characters drawn in a complex and sympathetic matter.” Rod Steiger gives a real powerhouse performance and is definitely the best thing about the film.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview with Rod Steiger in Playboy Magazine (July, 1969):
PLAYBOY: How do you feel about those who object to the draft and refuse to fight in Vietnam?
STEIGER: If a guy's doing it because he really doesn't believe in war or in hurting another human being, I'm all for it. But I believe the draft resisters could more emphatically make their antiwar point if the law allowed them to volunteer their service to help relieve pain.
