My dad loved Rod Stewart, and this song so much. He's gone 5 years. We played it in the car as we followed behind his hearse on the way to the church. RIP Dad.

Never fails..I can’t read the RU-vid comments under a powerful song without completely losing it! I love how everyone has a person, a memory, or a place they think of when listening, and relating to great lyrics. It also gives me hope for mankind. The minute you start to think nobody cares about anyone else, come read the comments under a good song, and you’ll be blown away at how music brings empathy, and compassion to just about all of us. I played this song to my mom when I saw her one last time as I said my final goodbye to her at the end of last past month (July 30th on her birthday where she had turned 50, when she passed away on the 29th after hearing she's brain dead). It still doesn't feel real, she was gone too soon. She's was beautiful & very kind hearted person, even in her forties, now fifties, she's always looked so young & even my grandmother (her mom) said that this song reminded her of my mom, she was right as she still looked young as she always had been when I was growing up & she died young. I will always love my mom & be forever grateful to her for everything she's ever done for me. I already miss her so much & it's still hard for me but I promise that I will keep going & still live life as she would've wanted for me & especially look after my little brother, make sure that he is loved & looked after. I hope to see her again someday. I love you mom, forever & ever. Now and always. ♥️

Bob Dylan wrote a song almost exactly like this years before this came out (on his 'Planet Waves' lp) and he reminded Stewart about it. Good naturedly he didn't sue, but he gets residuals off the song. Rod Stewart's version is about 9 million times better, anyway.
