This has to be 50 years old. SO WHY AM I JUST DISCOVERING IT NOW?? It makes me wonder how many other incredible things there are that I'll never see, or even know exist. Beautiful.
Think about how he learned to dance, act like a model (in the videos) how he changed his style (bleaching hair, new clothing styles, even wearing make-up, etc). He even sang some really bad songs (If you think I'm sexy,HOT legs) but it's what he had to do to stay on top. (People liked those awful songs!🤷♀️😂). Most people whom I heard on the radio when I was a kid were has-beens by the 80's or 90's. Not Rod Stewart! He's 81 and still rocking! I have the utmost respect for him as a performer, singer, etc. (His personal life decisions are another matter!) Love you Rod ❤️!
He can today as much as it could in 1970. I've seen him live twice in the last fifteen years (most recently 2016), he hasn't lost it... ... although, he's a lot more refined than this recording, which I honestly think is a shame. He's lost the sweet tongued Glasgow born Sheffield lad and become a proper singer... not something you'd expect to be a bad thing, but I prefer this recording to the album version (can't comment on live as he hasn't performed it when I've seen him). No criticism though, I love a bit of Rod... that sounds wrong...
Not to many can sing acapala he sounds amazing hard to believe people dressed like that back then he has always been one of my favorite singers I don't know why but it not common for men to show their emotions around people but I actually love it when he cries when he cries it's not out of sadness I saw him perform sailing and he got a little teary eyed and maybe that's why I cry when I hear that song
Wow! Here is an acapella vintage version of "GASOLINE ALLEY". Raspier than ever the voice may be, but still on key - and certainly WITHOUT ANY SYNTHETIC enhancements! I've been a LONG time fan of Rod but haven't ever seen this until now. I am blown away!
I don't know how many times I've watched this... I prefer it to the recorded version by a very long way. The expression, the wrong word spoken, the way the young Rod grins when he's singing it and realises he cocked up on the word "blood" is priceless. You don't get this mix of talent and passion any more.
No ,that's two different bands my friend,Rod was in Faces and Steve Marriot was in the small faces, when he left and Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart teamed up with the three remaining members (Ronnie Lane, Ian Mcglan and Kenny Jones) and Faces was born.
During this period of his life Rodney was as good as it got. We tend to forget that after the tripe he recorded later in life. This is pure magic.Amazing
In my opinion, Rod's one of the best bloody singers there is....that I know of anyway. Rod "the Bod' Stewart definitely deserves a spot in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame in which he was inducted into in 1994 ROD STEWART FOREVER!!! :D
And thats it ! no hype,no Simon Cowell infringement ,no nonsence, he sung it to the people , this guys done it, sung it, and won it , what more can be said, one class act !!!!!!!. He,s been belting these great songs out for years . Good old Rod ........
This songs reminds me of my late father who built race cars. His heart was all about racing and every May when I* see the Indy 500 and they mention gasoline alley. It brings a tear to my eye...Thanks Rod!!
what we're watching here is a young Diamond in the Rough. an Early Rod, who obviously took a moment to Sing an A-capella version, in a nice courtyard, with Voice-Enhancing Acoustics. boy, wonder if he knew then, the "Superstar" he would turn into. you can hear it in his Voice here. all the resonant qualities, and Rough edge stylings that he, and so few others Possessed. what a trip. wish i could have known him right here, I would have "gone along for the Ride". I'm a drummer.
"I'll put on my weddin' suit and catch the evening train, I'll be home before the milk's upon the door" I find myself listening to this every so often, (quite often actually) just to hear a vocalist who sings with pure emotion for the song and lyrics. Just beautiful. aah right?
I think of this song every time I get on a Eastbound GO Train to my hometown of Oshawa, Ontario. The end of the line and an old car town which has seen the industry disappear and all that remains is gas stations and abandoned properties.
Thanks for the reminder that Rod Stewart was actually cool at one time. When I was "coming of age" it was all Hot Legs and Do You think I'm Sexy. I didn't know about his earlier stuff so didn't give him the respect he was due. Great video.
Fabulous: the pure raw sound of the Seventies, long before A.I. standardised/dehumanised every note & every human face. I LOVE that detail at the end of the old woman looking over the balcony to see what all the fuss is about!
I like the women on their balconies. One of them is clearly trying to attract the attention of someone inside -"Mum, that Rod Stewart's in the backyard again"
My kids are in their early twenties, but very well know music from all eras. This beautiful ditty only augments the greatness of Rod Stewart in his prime.
Rod was the dogs bollocks in his heyday, and he's a Celtic and Scotland fan to boot . What more could one ask for in a rock star . HH Rod the Mod, and COYBIG 🍀
Now that's the way to do it! Natural with no effects!! Natural reverb!! Ever notice all the legendary artists and bands used very little effects? As compared to today's recordings, there is no comparison!! Rod is the best!!
The boy from the archway road shows them 'how it's done. One hell of a voice.the small faces and the faces had the most soulful voices in Marriott and Stewart along with ronnie lane 'woody Ian and kenny they provided some of greatest music ever to come out of the uk
