Rodanthe is located in Dare County, North Carolina, United States, on Hatteras Island, part of North Carolina's Outer Banks. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 213. Rodanthe, along with Waves and Salvo, are part of the settlement of Chicamacomico. Rodanthe includes the original Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, decommissioned in 1954, but now a museum. The town is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Pamlico Sound to the west.Rodanthe is the easternmost point of North Carolina. It is famous for its observation of "Old Christmas" on January 6, formerly Christmas, December 25, by the Julian Calendar, a custom held over from the original settlers who still used the "Old Style" calendar.
Many of Rodanthe's restaurants, shops and markets are seasonal, closing during the winter months and reopening the following spring. Many of these are family-owned, rather than chain franchises. Provisions can still be purchased on the Outer Banks during the winter months, but a short drive south to the town of Avon or north to Nags Head is required.
In 2002, Nicholas Sparks published the book Nights in Rodanthe, a romance novel about two visitors to Rodanthe. The film was partially filmed in the town of Rodanthe and entirely filmed in eastern North Carolina - including Cape Hatteras, Southport and Wilmington. During film production, one of the rental houses, "Serendipity", the northeasternmost house in Rodanthe, was transformed into the fictional "Inn at Rodanthe". Now a vacation rental, the Inn at Rodanthe has become a popular Outer Banks attraction and is booked year-round.

I just rode my dual sport motorcycle through the area the other day. Rode from Kill devil hills to cape hatteras lighthouse and back. Awesome area to ride.

I love this place, I dream of retiring in Frisco or Avon. I've spent many weeks of the year all through my youth in Rodanthe, an uncle had a house on Sea Oats Drive. Sadly, his house was lost 20 years ago and would easily be 100 yards past those houses being lapped by waves now.

While not something to see in my lifetime, eventually, the Outer Banks will be no more.

Lost a blue house near the pier a few days ago. I read that this beach is losing more than any beach on the east coast. It’s losing 15 feet a year!

When us the beat time to vacation in Rodanthe ?
@martin73photo

I would say that depends on each individual’s preference. I usually like to go once things slow down, late September/early October. The crowds are gone but restaurants and places are still open.

Beautiful houses, but it seems to have been some serious erosion?
@martin73photo
@martin73photo 7 месяцев назад
Sadly, erosion has been a problem for a number of years now. In some of footage, you can see where the road that was once there ends. Many houses have been taken down already. The bridge you can see in this video is the “bypass” for the road that once existed :(

Do you have any suggestions for a place to stay for a week with my dog around March
@martin73photo
@martin73photo 6 месяцев назад
I do not, I am sorry. I was just visiting and when I do, I usually stay at a nearby campground on the beach. There is a Facebook group, OBX, Outer Banks NC, that is pretty active. You may get some answers there...I hope you like your visit! :)@@user-wi3gq8jz2r

The earth is constantly reshaping the landscape through, wind, water and rain. The tectonic forces also are continuing to change the planet!! The human race has only existed for a moment in the grand timeline of earth’s history.
